.~.*.the sanguine syndicate.*.~. .~.*.about.*.~. This tribe refers to itself as a "syndicate" in the sense both of a group of individuals united in the pursuit of a common duty, a tribe of artists seeking to bring their art to the world, and in the sense of an organised crime ring: they pride themselves on their "crimes against normality". No one, says the syndicate's philosophy, is normal, and to pretend so is despicable. They believe strongly in the constant, unyielding expression of individuality, while still adhering to a code of conduct that allows very different people to coexist, unite their power, and work together towards a positive future. .~.*.stereotype.*.~. Those foxes dedicated to art, beauty and expression might find a home in the Sanguine Syndicate. Members are expected to be mostly good-aligned foxes, but there may be some exceptions. Shallow, belligerent and unimaginative temperaments would have no place in the group. All appearances and ages are welcome: given that the Sanguinites appreciate individuality, excluding a fox on the grounds of their modifications would be absurd. Tasteful designs and well-chosen piercings would always be well-regarded, however. .~.*.to the owners.*.~. The Sanguine Syndicate is a different kind of roleplay-heavy. It does not require that members post every day, or even every week. Instead, the focus is upon literacy, longer posts, and the creation of RP logs that look less like chat logs and more like stories. If you are capable of RPing with a good degree of literacy, and often find that you have only short amounts of time to be online (and thus cannot sit over a fast-moving short-post RP for an entire evening), then this is the tribe for you. In order to have your fox join the syndicate, the following things are required of the fox: - Must not be in another tribe - Must have an appropriate temperament - Must have RPed with an existing member As of January 2008 this is no longer necessary - Must be approved by the Boss And the following things are required of you, the owner: - Must agree not to cause OOC drama or be rude to other Modifox owners - Must be tolerant of differences both in foxes and in owners - Must obey the ToS - Must conduct the RP test with your fox in such a way that displays your best level of literacy, and measure up to the high standard of literacy and RP etiquette expected of Sanguinite owners I know people will come down on my head and call me "elitist" for that last requirement, and so I shall explain more fully. I do not think that those who cannot match the high standard required to be a Sanguinite owner are bad people. I simply think that they would not fit in. The purpose of this tribe is not only to bring artistic Modifoxes together, it is to bring together literate owners who want to read longer, more detailed responses from their RP partners, and who do not want to have to check a page every five minutes to see if a response has been written. This tribe is called a Syndicate because it is not like other tribes. This is a different way of playing, and it is not for everyone. If you wish to join but do not yet meet the standards, you will not be barred from trying again so long as you do not kick up a big fuss and tell me what an evil elitist I am for not letting your Modifox join the first time around. If you do not agree with my policies, do not join. If you do not like the style of RP, do not join. If, however, this is what you have been looking for, if you are a literate RPer who wants a change of scene, then I welcome you. Every member of the Sanguine Syndicate will be guaranteed to have a literate owner. One hundred percent of the time. If that's what you're looking for in a group, we are for you. Instructions on how to join are in post 7.

.~.*.the sanguine syndicate.*.~. .~.*.modifications.*.~. To the Sanguine Syndicate, body modification and jewellery are considered forms of art. This means that foxes dedicated to tattooing, piercing and so forth are known as artists for this alone. Their progress towards creating the effect they wish to achieve is akin to working on a masterpiece, and the comments and advice they offer to others on such things will fulfil their roles as art critics. Not all Sanguinites are concerned with modification to the point that it is their art, but the art of modification is considered as valid - and indeed valuable - as any other. Sanguinites are known by their distinctive tribe mark - the Sanguine Blade. A cruciform dagger with a red blade, it marks them out among other foxes in two main ways. Many members choose to wear a tiny replica of the blade, most of these wearing it as an earring: the right to wear a blade elsewhere is bestowed only upon those who have the favour of the Boss, or those whose ears have been damaged. The hilt is usually made of metal, and forms the mount for a precious or semi-precious red stone, or piece of red stained glass, that is made in the shape of the sword's blade. The blade hangs down perpendicular with the ground, as with most earrings, and the hilt is attached to a plain earring of the same metal which is then attached to the ear. This allows the blade to swing freely. Any metal may be used for the hilt and ring, thus allowing members to maintain an existing scheme. In addition to this, all members receive a small tattoo in the shape of the blade somewhere about their person. This may be any colour and in any position, but it is a common sign of devotion to have the blade filled in with red. Sanguinites are flexible in this respect: though the colour scheme of the Syndicate places importance upon red, wearing red is not required. Some examples: - Fox A is a regular member with a black and white colour scheme and silver piercings. He wears the Sanguinite blade as an earring in silver and red, and the tattoo in black and red on a white patch of fur. - Fox B is a hunter with a green colour scheme. She chooses not to wear the blade, and takes the tattoo in plain black. - Fox C is a gatherer with a pale blue, black and white colour scheme, and one of the original members of the Syndicate. He is permitted to wear the blade on a bracelet or tail ring (he chooses bracelet), showing his status, and takes the tattoo in pale blue. - Fox D is a regular member with a red and purple colour scheme, one of the original members of the Syndicate. She is permitted to wear the blade on a bracelet or tail ring (she chooses tail ring), showing her status, and takes the tattoo in plain black to help it show up. - Fox E is a carer with a white and gold colour scheme, and has gained the attention of the Boss through an outstanding introduction. She is permitted to wear the blade on a bracelet or tail ring (but chooses an earring nonetheless), and takes the tattoo in black and red. OOCly: Due to the tattoo's small size and low complexity, the Sanguine Blade replica is included in the price for joining the tribe if a member wishes to wear it. It is not mandatory. Only the tattoo is necessary. See any picture of Sonia for examples of the Sanguine Blade replicas: hers are in silver with the mandatory red blade, but anyone with differently-coloured jewellery may wish to change the colour of the hilt in order to make it fit better with their colour scheme. For example: you may have a gold hilt with a red blade, a black hilt with a red blade, a red hilt with a red blade, a silver hilt with a red blade, but you may not have a differently-coloured blade. It defeats the object. XD

.~.*.the sanguine syndicate.*.~. .~.*.positions.*.~. The elder of the Sanguine Syndicate is referred to as the Boss. Along with the usual Sanguinite earring, the Boss wears a collar adorned with a second Sanguine Blade to denote leadership of the group. Responsible for major decisions and syndicate policy, and a well-established artist in at least one field, the Boss commands, rather than demands, respect from the Sanguinites. Hunters in the syndicate have a difficult job. Since the group is based in a city, hunting becomes a different ball game - stealth and swiftness are often more important than brute strength. The syndicate has a diet rather similar to that of urban foxes, and Sanguinite hunters also serve as a form of militia that guards the areas with the richest pickings. Non-members are often driven away from such sites: like any tribe, the Sanguinites protect their own above all else. The shaman and any assistants will be older artists, usually heavily and spectacularly modified. Depending on the work of the gatherers, they can have access to high-end supplies in order to treat sick Sanguinites. A high level of wisdom and a grounded attitude is required to be a Sanguinite shaman. Gatherers have a position with huge responsibilities, and vast possibility for personal gain. They are entrusted with the task of collecting supplies for the syndicate, and from day to day this can entail assisting a hunter with their haul, finding supplies for the shaman or bringing back valuable trade goods to barter with other tribes. Shrewd foxes with good heads for business make good Sanguinite gatherers. Sanguinite scouts are of great importance. Since the syndicate frequently moves from one location to another, scouts are required to spy out possible bolt-holes and look for good hunting grounds. They are usually small, light, fast foxes who can get themselves out of trouble quickly, and need good memories and senses of direction to find their way through the city. Carers among the Sanguinites are usually either gentle mother-figures or stalwart father-figures, teaching the kits the ways of the city and making sure they come to no harm. They will make sure that only the safest food is given to the kits, and will fight to the death to defend them. The bravest and the kindest of foxes are among the ranks of the carers.

.~.*.the sanguine syndicate.*.~. .~.*.lands.*.~. The Sanguine Syndicate are nomadic to some degree, their territory ranging through a wide area of a city they know only as The Metropolis. This means that a different set of survival skills are necessary to get along in the group: knowing how to deal with traffic, for instance, and how to get the lids off dustbins and pizza boxes, which meat is safe to eat and for how long, where to find shelter when it rains, how to convince a human that it wants to feed you, and how to get away quickly if things go awry. .~.*.politics.*.~. Every Sanguinite member is regarded as an artist in their own right. They will frequently show off their skills in their chosen medium in order to gain renown among the tribe, and are often considered to be an enchanting people. Sanguinites are not forbidden to mate with a fox from another tribe, provided that the other fox's tribe allows it, but there is one condition: any kits born from the union will not automatically become Sanguinites. They must be individually approved for membership by the boss (if they intend to join the syndicate rather than the other parent's tribe), and until then are regarded as outsiders. If a fox without a tribe wishes to mate with a Sanguinite then the same rules apply, with all kits requiring approval. In-tribe breedings produce Sanguinite kits as standard, but anyone wishing to own such kits (unless they own the parents) must be approved by the syndicate. (ICly this is to protect the kits from abusive or irresponsible owners; OOCly it prevents anyone slipping past the literacy and RP tests.) Respect is extremely important within the Sanguine Syndicate. When addressing the boss, a respectful title is either "Father" or "Mother" depending on the boss' gender (and preference). The shaman and his/her assistants may be called "healer", "doctor" or "wise one", and gatherer-merchants are often referred to as "good fox". In general, Sanguinites hail each other by the title "Sanguinius" for males and "Sanguinia" for females, though as with the boss' title there may be exceptions. As far as other tribes are concerned, the Sanguine Syndicate is not outwardly warlike. However, they do not take kindly to "mundane" foxes - those with no sense of art - barging into their territory and eating the food that might be in the mouths of Sanguinites. Such "disagreements" as this can and do lead to bloodshed, particularly if the other tribe persists. Tough Sanguinite hunters, used to making the city work for them, will hunt down repeating mundane trespassers: these hapless outsiders can expect little mercy and no understanding from their assailants. .~.*.other tribes.*.~. Note: this is a general rule for the tribe as a whole. The elder is far more tolerant in person than some of her people, and hunters (such as Hylden) may be less tolerant than this suggests. Lazuli - FRIEND, elder Kendra on good terms with Sonia, members welcome, interbreeding allowed Lunarie - UNKNOWN, elder has not spoken with Sonia, members regarded as outsiders, interbreeding may be allowed on an individual basis Kousetsu - FRIEND, elder Loki on good terms with Sonia, members welcome, interbreeding allowed Kana - UNKNOWN, elder has not spoken with Sonia, members regarded as outsiders, interbreeding may be allowed on an individual basis Bamboo - SUSPECT, elders Kure and Panda-chan considered irresponsible and juvenile, members usually regarded as unwelcome intruders and treated with suspicion, interbreeding forbidden at this time

.~.*.the sanguine syndicate.*.~. .~.*.devil's advocate.*.~. The Devil's Advocate is a traditional, symbolic foe that any fox wishing to join the Sanguine Syndicate must face. Any existing Sanguinite can take the role of Devil's Advocate to a supplicant upon the approval of the Boss, but usually the elder members are chosen for their wisdom and way with words. The task of the Devil's Advocate is this: to make the prospective member seem as unsuitable for membership as possible. They address the tribe very much as a prosecution lawyer addresses the judge and jury, demanding that this mundane newcomer be cast aside and giving sound arguments as to why. In the face of this ordeal, the supplicant is their own defence: they must prove their worth in the eyes of the existing Sanguinites, thus defeating the case of the Devil's Advocate, in order to be accepted as a Sanguinite in their own right. ICly, any fox wishing to join the Syndicate must face a Devil's Advocate nominated by the Boss. OOCly, the owner of the supplicant fox requests a given Advocate and may have their request granted. First-time applicant owners must satisfactorily complete an introductory RP test, in which the duel with the Devil's Advocate must be detailed, in order to be admitted. They will be given a RP prompt setting the scene and stating the Advocate's arguments, and must answer this satisfactorily in order to have their fox accepted. Repeat applicants who were refused in the past must do the same. Repeat applicants who already own Sanguinite foxes may be allowed to skip another test by presenting a short character profile of their prospective new Sanguinite: if the fox seems to fit they will be admitted without a formal test, and the Devil's Advocate will be assumed to have lost the case, but if there is sufficient doubt as to the fox's suitability a test will still be required. .~.*.members.*.~. Elder: Sonia Hunters: Hylden Shaman: Atticus Gatherers: Arith Scouts: Teazer, Romulus Carers: (none) Sanguinites: Kiroko, Jaden, Jupo Hopefuls: SpurAnyone wishing to gain a special position must first join the tribe from now on. They will then be asked to respond to an IC RP prompt in order to test their suitability for the job they desire. If they pass, they will be allowed the position. If not, they will stay a regular member. This is another chance to impress the Boss - those who do so may well be awarded extra prizes. .~.*.owners.*.~. .~.*.the sanguine syndicate.*.~. .~.*.how to join.*.~. Announcement: Current Sanguinite owners please take heed. I need to know if I can state that your foxes were there at any given initiation - they won't be RPed, of course, but if I (or anyone else doing Devil's Advocate sessions in future) can mention them in a description of "the Syndicate" as a whole it would be very helpful. Please post your answer here (so I have proof) as soon as possible if your fox is accepted to the Syndicate. - Step 1: Read The Rest Of This Page If your fox doesn't fit the bill, or you don't think you're ready or willing to participate in the style of RP we have here, please don't join. If you think you meet all the criteria, advance to step 2. - Step 2: Fill In The Form .~.*.i'd like to join.*.~. Name: Owner's Name: Picture: Fox's Art: Put down your fox's preferred art form here - Romulus, for example, would put down Theatre. Devil's Advocate Request: Current choices are Sonia, Atticus, Hylden and Teazer (belonging to TawnyAngel). Your request may or may not be granted, but it is unlikely to affect your chances of getting in. RP Sample(s): insert helpful short title here Have you read the rules and requirements?: Hopefully it's self-explanatory, but if not do PM me with any queries. While it's not mandatory, if you can link me to any RP samples you've already done that'd just make things that bit easier. I'd like to be able to judge your skill as accurately as possible, and giving me other RP samples will aid me in that (as well as persuading me that you have some experience with general RP etiquette). Here's an example form: .~.*.i'd like to join.*.~. Name: Sonia Owner's Name: DareDelvil Picture:
Fox's Art: Verse and Prose Devil's Advocate: Atticus (he tested her worth as an artist at the Syndicate's conception) RP Sample(s): BK RP (Melodia & King Ladekahn) Have you read the rules and requirements?: YesOnce you have posted your form in this thread (don't PM it to me), advance to step 3. - Step 3: Begin RP! Drop me a PM asking for an initiation test, and if your form checks out I'll write you a test and post it in this thread. I'll also PM you a copy if you desire. Answer the prompt to the best of your ability. If I feel that you meet the requirements for the syndicate, your fox will be added to the list of current members! Send 1k to the Modifox mule with a title showing that you're joining us, and PM the mule the form below: .~.*.marking form.*.~. Fox Name: Tattoo Position: Tattoo Colour: Blade Replica?: Blade Position: Blade Hilt Colour: Remember the rules for the blade replica! Check the Modifications section if you're not sure. If you're restricted to the standard earring it'll be in the left ear (closest to the "camera") at the top, like the conch piercings. If not, it is up to you to either explicitly select the standard earring or describe the positioning (and any attached bracelet, tailring or whatever) yourself. Only the Boss may wear the blade replica on a collar, necklace or choker unless special permission is gained and a very good IC reason is given. An example: .~.*.marking form.*.~. Fox Name: Atticus Tattoo Position: Shoulder Tattoo Colour: Black hilt, red blade Blade Replica?: Yes Blade Position: Earring (standard) Blade Hilt Colour: SilverAdvance to step 4... - Step 4: Get RP With Other Members We encourage two or three fox PRPs in the Sanguine Syndicate. These, in our experience, allow for the least holding up and the highest post quality possible. Post in the thread saying you want RP, and organise it with other members. Don't forget to ((OOC))! Needless to say, your fox is not barred from RPing with non-Sanguinite foxes. That would be ridiculous. However, RP within the tribe helps to build a good sense of community - and you're guaranteed to have a literate partner, too. ^^ ...There's a step 5? - Step 5: Stick Around? Your assistance in RPing with prospective new members would be greatly appreciated, and, despite that RP within the Sanguine Syndicate will not move at breakneck speed, those owners who RP more frequently are likely to gain more renown within the group. I may decide to award prizes to the best RPers at a later date, so go ahead and impress me. ^w^
