What's Where
Realm: Forest Native races: Elves Forest Sprites Faeries Unicorns Wood Goblins Mermaids Lake Sprites Grindylow (yes I did get that from Harry Potter) Hunter-Gatherers (forest humans who hunt or gather fruit for food) Signature hazards: Floods and undergrowth
Realm: Water Native races: Selkie Ocean Sprites Merpeople (originally humans who have evolved and adapted to their surroundings) Sirens Kraken Sea-Horse Halcyon Signature hazards: Tsunamis, whirlpools
Realm: Fire Native races: Phoenix (very rare) Dragons Heliopaths (looks around for J.K.Rowling >.> <.< ...Ok, coast's clear) Flame Sprites Children of the Phoenix (a.k.a Fire Humans; the humans who settled in the Fire realm and worship the Phoenix as a kind of god) [additions needed] Signature hazards: Volcanoes, geysers
Realm: Earth Native races: Rock Dwarves Sand Sprites Sphinx Gnomes Gargoyles Golems Yale Desert Dwellers (humans who have managed to eke out an existence in the barren Desert regions) Signature hazards: Earthquakes, landslides
Realm: Air Native races: Pegasus Air Sprites Light Thestrals (same as Dark but of a lighter colour in order to camouflage against white clouds) Sylphs Wyvern Griffin Martlet Harpies Wind People (humans who settled in the Air realm) Signature hazards: Hurricanes, tornadoes
Realm: Ice Native races: Snow Sprites Ice Men and Women (humans who settled in the Ice realm) Signature hazards: Blizzards, frost
Realm: Thunder Native races: Weather Giants Lightning Sprites Dark Thestrals (same as Light but of a darker colour so as to camouflage amongst thunderclouds) Thunderbird Weather Guardians (humans who settled in the thunder realm) [you know the drill] Signature hazards: Thunderstorms, generally crazy unpredictable weather
Realm: Jewels Native races: Humans (see below) Draconians Gem Dwarves Jewel Pixies Griffin (very rare; only one or two sightings. Not wholly regarded as native). This realm has no signature hazards.
The Otherworld
This is the name given to the land or lands outside of the eight realms. Very little is known about it/them, although rumours about: some say that there is no leader, no law, and that the entire land is composed of bands of vagrants, thieves and other criminals. Others say that the land(s) is/are dominated by a corrupt tyrant king, who rules the land with an iron fist, and so opposition to this rule is abundant. Many seem to agree on the fact that it is a place of criminals, dark creatures and strange, unknown magic. But so far, no living person in any of the eight realms is known to have been there.
Okay! Now that's over, I have a few general queries. The first is about humans. Originally I thought that they would all just live in the Realm of Jewels, but then I thought, okay, humans are quite versatile and they don't seem to belong anywhere in particular. So, maybe humans originated from the Realm of Jewels, but there have since been colonies set up on other realms - small ones, but colonies nonetheless - that have adapted to the realm (either by physical changes, or just by their culture and traditions). What do you guys think?
Also, can you think of any other fantasy creatures that I've missed and where they might be found? I know J.K. Rowling has created a whole host of different fantasy creatures, but I've tried not to use more than one of her creatures per realm. Tolkien also has a few I haven't used.
Okay, I have another question. I've thought of another fantasy creature - griffin. But I'm not sure where it would go. It has wings, so it could belong to the Air realm. There's also this quote from Wikipedia: Wikipedia The griffin was a common feature of "animal style" Scythian gold; it was said to inhabit the Scythia steppes that reached from the modern Ukraine to central Asia; there gold and precious stones were abundant; and when strangers approached to gather the stones, the creatures would leap on them and tear them to pieces. So maybe the Realm of Jewels?

Well, the realm of Jewels seems to be the most versatile, so perhaps Griffins can be native to Air, but also live in Jewels?
As for humans, I don't see why they can't originate in Jewels, and it also makes sense for them to be all over. It would probably explain why Aiden is in the Forest realm. razz
For the Air realm, how about Sylphs?
And for the Earth, how about: Brownies? (No, not the dessert . :3) Domovoi could possibly come from there, too, if you want to use them (which would make people that want to be shape-shifters, to a degree, happy). Kobolds could be fun, and there could even be inrealm fighting between the two groups, since they're similar, but not exactly the same.
Dunno where they could come from, but the Tomte are also creatures of myths...
*kinda runs out of Wikipedia links* And...That's all for now.

Earth: Gnomes Gargoyles (made of stone) Golems
Fire: Sphinx (Reasoning is that they're from ancient egyptian myths and that's located in the desert *shrug*)
Thunder: Shadowers (not really any kind of creature. But a being that can travel through shadows. Thunder would be a dark realm with dark clouds I'm guess, therefore lots of shadows and darkness.) Thestrals could probably fit here too.
The other thing you started doing but ended up not continuing, is placing the races in more than one spot. Dragons and Griffons can be in fire/air and jewel, Sirens could be part of the ice realm, banshee's too for that matter.
Draconians would definately only be native to Jewel though, but like humans can travel and adapt anywhere.

BirdsWiki's list of legendary birds. There's some nifty ones on there. And I can't believe you forgot to put a thunderbird under the thunder realm. Come on now, it has a car named after it for crying out loud. There's also Wyvern(sort of mini dragons with only back legs and wings in place of forearms), Yale, and my personal favorite, El Chupacabra. I also found this nifty sight with mythical beasts, if you're curious. Link. I'd put wyvern as air...or maybe forest, yale as forest, and for El chupacabra, eh, take your pick(thinks of making up el chupacabra character).

*glomp* I love you guys! I'll start going through and putting these creatures up. abyssofthesoul The other thing you started doing but ended up not continuing, is placing the races in more than one spot. Dragons and Griffons can be in fire/air and jewel, Sirens could be part of the ice realm, banshee's too for that matter. Actually I never intended to do that in the first place, except for very few Water creatures who also live in the forest realm due to the lakes there. However, there could be different species of that creature that are native to the different realms. For example, if Dragons were to be found in both the Fire and Air realms, since they have wings, the Air kind would have bigger wings and very weak flame breath, whereas the Fire kind would have strong flame breath but small wings, maybe only capable of flying a few feet.
I don't think I will do that with Dragons, but maybe with Thestrals and some others like Water Sprites.
I will post soon, by the way ^^; but this is so much fun that I want to do it first!

I've actually put Sphinxes under Earth because it's mostly comprised of desert. I've put Thestrals under both Thunder and Air as you will see.

*kinda runs out of Wikipedia links* And...That's all for now. *luffles* These are really intriguing creatures. I have an idea for the Domovoi/Kobold thing: Domovoi are household guardians, right? And Kobold haunt mines. So I thought that they could both inhabit the realm of Jewels, with the Domovoi wanting to co-operate with humans, and the Kobold doing their best to cause havoc. There'd be a lot of conflict between them that way. Good/bad idea?
The Tomte are very interesting. They seem more like shapeshifters than the other two, or at least masters of illusion. It seems like the Thunder realm has that whole shadows thing going on, so maybe they could come from there?

I'd put Wyvern as air, too, but Yale I think as Earth because it's kind of a mountain creature. (Also, Forest has tons of races already). El Chupacabra, well, they seem pretty malevolent... perhaps they could be Otherworld creatures?

Okay! Here's how it stands so far:
I have more than enough creatures for the Air and Forest realms. I also have plenty for the Earth and Water realms. Fire, I could fit in one or two more. Thunder needs a few more. Ice is in dire need of creatures - I'm curious about what you said, Abyss, about Banshee and Sirens being part of the Ice realm. Why do you say that? Jewels doesn't have very many creatures, but since humans are so populous there, I don't think there are likely to be a lot.
I've added a native type of human to each of the realms. They'll have their different cultures and traditions, and I'm also thinking about having a mage or two in each realm who practices elemental magic. What do you think? (Of course any new human applicants will probably want to be mages. So maybe I won't mention them on the front page. razz Anyone who reads this far before applying is either dead nosy or dead dedicated, so they can be a mage if they want to ^.^)
I've also got a couple of Otherworld creatures - should I start making a list of those? Since the Otherworld is so huge, there'll be more creatures in there than in all of the realms put together, but very few of those will be known about; only the ones which have, for however long and for whatever reason, crossed over to the Dreamworld at some point.
