Name: Media Impact
Location: Anywhere and everywhere (for the most part).
Type: Mind Control
Facts: I would like to direct your attention to a topic posted in the Extended Discussion by Slave to wildrose (who has been invited to the guild as of the moment) and I want to pose this question: What kind of power does the media hold? I'd also like to answer that to an extent, who decides what commercials you see? Who decides what is in those commercials? Who decides to put this certain article in a magazine not one on the genocide in Darfur that no one seems to know about? The media. They control the things we see, the things we hear about, the concepts that we ponder (to a certain extent). How scary is that?
I'd like to direct your attention to this video explaining quite a lot in my opinion.

Oh my, I could type all day and never finish my thoughts on this topic. Media has become a very intersting monster in the past ten years. But really ever since the invention or the printing press (Which was the first form or mass media) people have been heavily influenced by the media. In-specificly our generation which has grwon up with the T.V in every room-we are even more influenced than we would like to think. Media goes beyond what you see on the T.V, it's the stores that sell everything and anything, it even goes dow to the very people you speak to.

T.V was bad enough, but now with the power-horse called Internet, I can broadcast this message to anyone with a computer and internet acces, (Which happens to be about 70% of America, nevermind the world) and with that gift comes great responsibilities and dangers. Media now (quite literaly) has the tools to look into your very own home. Sure you can do all your shoping on line, and sure it makes looking a word up a whole lot eaiser than thumbing through that heavy and cumbersome paper dictonary, but at hwat cost? Has our generation become so dependat that without noticing it we are utterly consumed and controled by the media? has our dependance on a machine made us un-able to think for ourslevs? Or are we all just too uptight about everything now and should just be happy that a computer and the media has suposedly made our lives better?

What do you think? is media a dangerous brain washing monstr? or mearly and angle of our creation that makes our days go faster? what does the future hold for the media? will it be helpful in telling us what to buy, or will it ruine our ability to make our own decisions?

Small minds discuss people, average minds discuss events and great minds discuss ideas.

I think that the media is a brainwashing monster, it provides us with entertainment but we let it control us so much.
Well, the way we dress and what we consider 'right' and 'wrong.'

Of course, thats it in a nut shell, but lets talk about that and take it further. Give specific examples not pertaning to what you wear. Lets talk about how the media makes us think.

The world needs acts not unfufilled dreams.

Well, the media makes us raise our standards of what we should look like and act like and how other people should treat us. So, we either think less of ourselves and the people who have the media-accepted looks raise above those who think less of themselves.
