Probably one of the most confused bands in American as to what they're classified as. Most people say that Disturbed are a Nu-Metal band like SlipKnoT or KoRn, but the fact is that Disturbed's sound is a lot different than both of those bands. Disturbed follows more along the lines of the German band, Rammstein. And like Rammstein they are classified as industrial rock.

Disturbed originally started as a duo of just Dan Donegan (guitarist) and Mike Wengern (drummer) experimenting with different sounds. Later Dan got his good old friend Steve "Fuzz" Kmak (former bassist) to sign on the band. But the band would not be complete until 1999 when they ran into David Draiman who later would become their lead singer. Their first song was actually not Down with the Sickness but rather "Glass Shatters" which WWF wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin used as his intro. But their first actual single and music video was Stupify which launched both their stardom and had fans pulling their debut album, The Sickness off the shelves. Although their sound was very infectious, many people refused to touch their sound because of how different it sounded from what was in the music airwaves at the time. The Sickness was released in 2000 and sold 1 million copies becoming their first gold record. The album was an infecious blast of David's own personal experiences and personal thoughts he wished for the world to know. Like his rough childhood between him and his mother:

Down with the Sickness
And when I dream...
And when I dream...
And when I dream...
AND WHEN I DREAM!
No mommy don't do it again, don't do it again
I'll be a good boy, I'll be a good boy, I promise
No mommy don't hit me
Oww why do you have to hit me like that mommy?
Don't, don't you're hurting me oww
Why do you have to be such a b***h?
Why don't you...Why don't you just ******** off and die
Why don't you just ******** off and die
Why don't just just leave here and die?
Never stick your hand in my face again b***h
FUDGE YOU!!!!
I don't need this s**t
You stupid sadistic abusive ******** whore
Would you like how it feels mommy?
Here it comes, get ready to DIE!!!

Not to mention that he was excommunicated from his Faith (he's Jewish). Which he also used as a "weapon" to channel aggression into his lyrics. Weeks after the release of the album, Disturbed embarked on their first tour titled "Music as a Weapon Tour" which is also where the music video for "Down with the Sickness" was taken from. The single was also featured in various movies but none the more famous as Anne Rice's Queen of the Damned where David teamed up with Jon from KoRn to write both Forsaken and Vampire Lestat. Soon after the movie Disturbed started recording their 2nd album, Believe. Which to most fans sounded too religious (per the title of the album). Before the album was even thought of David had actually gotten back in touch with his religious roots after his grandfather died. David explained that the message of the album is:

David Draiman
Everyone needs something to believe in whether it be Faith in a religion or in just yourself. Without something to believe in our lives have no meaning and are completely hollow. After what happened after 9/11 people need something to believe in to keep faith that there is something worth fighting for rather than just throwing their life away.

But even with the religious undertone of the album, the album sold 2 million copies becoming their first Platinum album outselling their first album by 1 million copies. The album itself was released in 2002. After the release of the album Disturbed teamed up with Chevelle, Taproot, and Unloco for the Music as a Weapon II Tour. And during one of the shows they recorded their CD/DVD album Music as a Weapon II filled with nothing but live performances and rare stuff like Pete Loefer from Chevelle joining David on Down with the Sickness and Disturbed doing a cover of Metallica's "Fade to Black". The CD/DVD combo or just CD were both released in 2003. After the tour the band took it a bit easy mostly touring with other bands including being invited to headline the Jagermeister Tour. In Late 2004 Steve "Fuzz" Kmak left the band due to the fact that he was an expecting father and wanted to spend most of his time with his soon to be born son. With the exit of Fuzz the band was left in a hole for they had begun writing for their next album. The band put the album on hold and continued to tour in Europe before settling down in the Summer of 2005 to record their 3rd studio album. They hired John Moyer to replace Fuzz on bass but most of Moyer's bass pieces were very small and the band revised it's sound to replace most of the bass parts with electronica. And on September 9, 2005 Disturbed released Ten Thousand Fists but months before the release they had already released their first two singles to radio both Stricken and Guarded. The album sold over 2.6 million copies their most popular album to date and their second Platinum album. After the release of the album the band headlined the Jagermeister Tour once again and toured Europe and the UK before returning to tour the US. Currently they are fixing to start the Music as a Weapon III tour expected to kick off this summer.

Original Band:

David Draiman - Vocals
Dan Donegan - Guitars, electronics
Steve "Fuzz" Kmak - Bass
Mike Wengern - Drums, precussions

Band as of 2005:

David Draiman - Vocals
Dan Donegan - Guitars, electronics
Mike Wengern - Drums, precussions
John Moyer - Bass

I love their music, but I don't like Draiman as a person.

Yeah he's a bit of an arrogant a*****e. If you ever want to meet the band try and meet Dan or Mike cause they're really cool.

I also love their music but I'm not so sure on what to think of David D and the new album Indestructible.

I liked Indestructible though, especially the song The Night; but it's all a matter of preference I guess.

Now that I have seen Disturbed in concert I actually have more respect for them and I think Draiman isn't that bad of a person. Unlike Dragonforce and some other bands at Mayhem, Disturbed had to preform with people from the filthy lawn [it rained] throwing pieces of the lawn at fans under the pavilion or possibly Disturbed in general and not one member of the band bad mouthed the audience. Anywho, I do like the songs from Indestructible I've heard and Disturbed are quite the showmen for they sound exactly like their recordings.

Well that's different from what I know, David was a major a*****e to is fans here - even to a chick who injured herself in the pit and nearly passed out. He kept cussing at her; not to mention stood up a meet and greet to go ******** some model.

Also, just re-read the bio the OP posted, half of it is wrong - Down With The Sickness isn't about David's mother, it's about the various abuses of society and the abuse of the 'nanny state'. David also had no part in writing Forsaken, all he did was lend his voice. Hm...

Odd & unfortunate how he treats fans down under. Also, I'm surprised I hadn't heard of such obscene actions before.

I didn't know he had a bad personality.

I really like him. He came wheeled onto stage like Hannibal in a straight jacket and put on one hell of a show. I love his voice and his music and I think he looks cool, too. xD

@Rachel: I'm sorry it rained at your Mayhem. :/

I had no idea David was an a**. . . I can't hold much by it though. I was at the last Music as a Weapon (are we on IV?? Don't know), and the show was a BLAST.

He was so good to the fans, tossing water bottles to the moshers, cracking jokes all the time - my favorite was "Yes ma'am, those are some nice titties. Yes, you're titties are nice too. ********, now everyone is going to show off their titties." He calle us "my brothers, my sisters, my blood" too, which I dug. Though it helps that David is, um. Well. . . Hot. xd

As for the bio, yeah its off. Definitely. Jonathan Davis wrote all the original songs that Lestat did in the movie. And Jonathan Davis played Lestat's singing voice in the movie - as well as a chameo (he was the scalper). David lent his vocals to the soundtrack version of the songs, because Jon's contract with Sony BMG prevented him from doing so.

Oh, another thing. . . David must be some form of cool, because he was just a studio artist for Queen of the Damned, which is something he had never done before.

I don't think many people believed he was an a** or had a bad personality behind all the music and stuff. I sure as hell didn't, lol. Like other bands I thought they were all totally cool and alid-back behind the scenes and some of em are truly screwed up. I'm simple minded I guess. sweatdrop
and is the straight jacket thing true? Damn, I gotta see that... lol.

I've really gotten more into the band since they had a song on Guitar Hero 3 and they are really worth listening to cause their songs are pretty good
