UH yeah. I technically drew it on V-day but i didn't finish it until last night, and i still need suggestions on some sort of graphic BG.

I'm not cool enough to be all angsty and bitter on V-day but i certainly wasn't getting any love, so i drew this image of my character Paige as a sort of compromise. I sort of went with the idea of a couple having a lover's spat on valentines day, and drew page sulking in the aftermath, looking frustrasted at a valentine she'd meant to give someone. It's not supposed to be a downer, since she'll probably give it to them anyway. But yeah. That's the story...i felt like it was slightly more interesting than doing a purely anti valentine's image or something gooey and cute.

By the by, why is digital inking so hard? I ended up scrapping her legs because for some reason all my lines were turning out really shakey and wobbly. I use a wacom intuos II tablet and photoshop and in general i dont seem to be able to make any really smooth sweeping/long lines with quick gestures or anything....

If you want a background, maybe some home-y looking wallpaper texturing would enhance the accessable charm of this piece?

Honestly, I have that problem, too. I'm completely UNABLE to digitally ink with "sweeping gestures". I just clean my lines up to some ridiculous degree.

Yeah, i do a lot of cleaning as i go...but i feel like the end result is something more stiff/rigid. I'd like my lines to be more natural..XO

actually that might work out well. I'll have to look for some patterns online.

Anyone know any good stock sites?

wut a qt.

I unno if your Intuos II has pressure sensitivity, but I have an Intuos III and it is worthy. If that helps. Maybe a tablet upgrade is in need. I think you can buy one from Ebay for like $50. Well I unno, I'm just guessing. Fifty is just a generic number.

Intuos II does have pressure sensitivity, but you may be right about updating the tablet. I should proably start asking what other CG artists are using.

I know my sister just got a graphire for christmas, so maybe i'll play with her's and see if there's a difference.

and thank for the link, although i already have that one in my book marks XD
i like their urban looking textures, although they're a little lacking in the textiles and patterns where my needs are concerned. I wish i could access a database of french wall paper. I never saw so many interesting patterns on walls in my life @___@

wow! amazing!
I can never take the time to find these things myself, thank you so much.

I really dig the retro prints on the first site. I don't think i plan on using them for this piece, but i think the could come in handy with future projects. heart heart

You're welcome. heart imo, the third pattern down on the last link (the beige one) tiled might look nice, although you might have to lighten/darken colors. <---semi-complicated sentence.

The sweeping lines thing is a big issue I have with Photoshop. Corel Painter is much better with fast, long strokes (depends on the brush you use, though).

The latest version of Photoshop CS may have improved in this aspect. I wouldn't know since I only have Photoshop 7.0.

I use an Intuos 2, and have found it near-impossible to get smooth sweeping lines in Photoshop 7.0. It's like the cursor-position only updates at intervals, so rather than a smooth line you get one made of lots of shorter straight lines. Blagh. xp

Don't have that problem in OpenCanvas, though, so I think it's Photoshop-specific. confused

I've had intentions of DLing corel painter/open canvas for over a year now and i still haven't gotten around to it. Open canvas seems easy to get, but i really want painter @__@

I threw a background on it today and called it finished. I found some wallpaper i like, but none of the photo's were good enough for a pattern so i ended up redrawing one by hand.

That sucked.
