I was wondering what everyone else's opinion was on labeling Buddhism Pagan. I agree with it since we share so many ways of thinking with the other Pagan Religions, like Wicca.

One who is not a Christian, Muslim, or Jew, especially an adherent of a polytheistic religion in antiquity. --dictionary.com
I would say that Buddhists are not Muslims, Jews, or Christians.

Since many of the beleifs are similar, I suppose they could be considered in the same category. Like, if you were to draw a Venn diagram, their circles would cross and have many ideas within in the same center area. I don't know if this makes sense to anyone, but I tried. *lol* I believe that I am Buddhist first, and then, quite possibly, Pagan as well. -[Haruko]

I'd say it's a member of the Pagan family. One because Hinduism is very pagan in every way and Buddhism stems from that. If you really believe the Buddha's story you'd know he was reincarnated from Shiva, and Krishna and so on.
I personally am a Eclectic Pagan. Most of my firmer beliefs lie in Buddhism.
Pagan however the word in it's self is derogatory. The Christians gave us that name as a put down. So was the word witch. Words are not just labels. They have more meaning that one can see.
As a Polythest I feel using such words can do more harm to my faith. Though it takes someone from the inside of any said religion to either accept or reject the use of these words.
Do with this what you will.

when you really look at it, pagan is about the worship of nature. mother earth, her ferility, loving and caring for her
buddhism doesn't deal with that. it's about the connectedness/ the interdependance of ALL things... think, indra's net
