Regrettably, it seems the peace movement may be breaking down. This is probably a result of Mother's continued silence regarding her "decision," coupled with the buildup of tension that has been going on since the aliens first arrived.

The time may come soon that the GIB will have to choose a side. Therefore, I think an open and honest discussion is in order.

Who should we pick? The options are numerous.

Mother and the Others
We might choose to side with Mother and her more... obedient children.

Pros:
As of yet, they have taken no violent action against Gaians.
They claim to have our best interests at heart.
They claim to support the peace movement.
They claim to be trying to help Flarn

Cons:
We know of Mother's disturbing plan to take away our free will, yet she has remained curiously silent about her decision on whether or not to go through with it. Very unsettling.
They plan on doing something to Flarn, against his will
They have show themselves to be violent against their own people when they refuse to cooperate.
From his posts, it seems 05 still desires to destroy/eat us.

Flarn
We might choose to side with the renegade, Flarn.

Pros:
We know that in his former life, he was willing to put the well-being of Gaians over following the orders of the Zurg.
He is a victim that may require our protection to avoid further trauma.
Flarn may have the power to win against his siblings should they attempt to go through with Mother's Plan.
Flarn claims to be seeking justice against those who wronged him, and has made no mention of harming Gaians other than those that try to get between him and his target.

Cons:
Flarn is a wildcard. It may be impossible to determine who's side he is really on, and why.
He is seemingly unstable and prone to violence.
He has difficulty communicating.


The Peacekeepers
We might side with those Gaians who still wish to promote peace, such as the Believers and the Gaian Resistance.

Pros:
They still wish to keep the peace between Human and Zurg.

Cons:
There is a possibility that they are being manipulated by the Zurg in order to maintain a "false peace."
Many seem unwilling to question the intentions of the Zurg.

The Warmongers
We may choose to side with the Xenophobes, such as Grunny's Empire.

Pros:
They are willing to fight for their freedom.
They side with Gaia first, last, and only.
They may have the power to resist whatever plans Mother or Flarn might have for us.

Cons:
They are rash.
They are stirring up trouble.
They are violent.
They are looking for a fight.
They appear to engage in questionable activities, such as sacrificing Zurg Children.

Planet Gaia

We may choose to simply protect all Gaians, no matter what their beliefs or actions.

Pros:
They are our people.

Cons:
It is unwise to side with someone on the basis of species alone.
They are divided. Some desire peace, some war. Some are worthy of protection, some are not.

The Victims
We may choose to side with no one, and only protect those who are innocent, regardless of which side they are on.

Pros:
Free us from making too much of a commitment to any one side.
It's never a bad idea to protect the innocent.

Cons:
It will be difficult to decide who is "innocent," and who is not.


No Side
We take no action until the GIB itself is threatened, and then react accordingly.

Pros:
We will not have to worry about picking the wrong side.
We will be protecting our own.

Cons:
If we only protect ourselves, what is the point of our organization?


I encourage you all to discuss this openly and frankly. Do not mince words. This is too big of an issue for us to keep silent, or hide our true thoughts and feelings.

We were here to protect the Gaians, and I shall protect the citizens of Gaia. When I say citicens of Gaia I dont only mean humans I include Zurg whom have taken residentship on the planet, too. No matter if they hate us disagree with us or are just plain annoying(Ron), it is our duty.

Oh gosh, TIM. UI feel this is all coming so fast.

As much as I'd like to be the peacekeepers, I know we would be taken advantage of.

Surely there is some road that lies in between Victems and Gaia.

To me the Xenophobes are fighting for all the wrong reasons, and though we may end up on the same side, I would still prefer we differ ourselves from them.

We must form to fight amoungst the victims. It's the most inclusive group out there....

For instance, there may be zurgs who want to escape procicution from their own mother, hence they can be classified as victims from their own race...

If we don't protect the innocent, then we are not better than any other warmongering group.

My personal opinion may be different from what I think GiB should decide, based on what GiB stands for.

I have always seen GiB as a protector of Gaia. Not necessarily the people, but the planet as a whole. Friendly Zurg are allies, just as harm-seeking Gaians are foes- Unlike GFG and the other Resistance groups, who see all Zurg as the enemy. They were formed to gather information to understand and peacefully negotiate with the visitors from other worlds, and to keep them from becoming a threat to Gaia. Not to fight them. GiB, in my eyes, should protect the innocent, no matter what race, as well as those fighting for the same goal- to keep Gaia in our control.

Don't attack the Zurg UFO's that want peace. Ally with them, if they are willing to fight alongside you. Make your common goal the freedom of Gaia, and only fight those who oppose it. Even then, don't fight to kill, fight to protect.

If it comes to it, I'm very against going against what GiB has always stood for. For so long, we've been trying to make our bad publicity known for what it is- crap. If we go against what we always have been, and fight against all Zurg, we'd be proving them right.

Personally, I don't want war, but if I must fight, I will follow my own path. If it differs from GiB, then I will resign as a member. But I agree with only fighting the enemy of what you stand for. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.
