I am an average sized girl with really long hair and i really want to cosplay Yugi from YuGiOh! But because of my hair I thought I'd like to try doing a female version of Yugi. Instead of my hair going up and out, it would go down and out and I'd wear a skirt instead of pants and stuff like that you know? I told one of my friends this and he was like "Yugi? Why Yugi? A female version's just gonna be weird."

Now I know that there are a lot of cosplayers that look nothing like their character but am I stepping over some boundary line? Should I just abandon the whole idea and go as someone else instead?

Honey, I wouldn't worry about it. Last year my friend Cosplayed as "Edward, the full metal slut." He wore an Edward wig, the red jacket, the black boots, and a very tight mini-skirt.

Wear what you want, and don't forget, cosplaying is supposed to be fun!

I've also seen people do the opposite gender thing before. Like female Vash (trigun) and female Wolfwood (Trigun). In Vash's case she wore a wig but her hair was down both wore skirts, so...

It'll be hard but if you think it looks like fun you should do it. Whether it be hard to do your hair or costs over 200 dollars cosplay what your heart tells you to. I'm going as Kyuubi Naruto if it kills me.

I've cosplayed as men many a time. Though I usually don't go into making a female version of male characters, it sounds like a very creative idea. Go for it!! blaugh However, if you DID want to do Yugi as a male, it's an entirely reachable goal. idea Wigs work wonders. If you buy an old crappy wig and style it with gels and hairsprays and such, then use spray color or colored spiking gel (a good choice for a Yugi wig) it can turn out looking great. Then your hair won't be an issue anyway. Also, for male characters, I suggest ace-bandaging your breasts down (yes I just said breasts stressed ). You'd be surprised how well the results turn out. 3nodding I actually am also medium build with long LONG hair, and have been mistaken for a male before when using the wig and ace-bandage thing for costumes. xd
