Actually a pretty old band....Originally formed back in 1998 when Zacky Vengeance met M. Shadows while he was playing with his other band, Successful Failure. The two decided to form a band but the band wasn't complete until 1999 (without Synyster Gates) with:
M. Shadows - Lead Vocals, acoustic guitars Zacky Vengeance - Lead guitars, piano Reverend Tholomew Plague - Drums, percussions Demeon Ash - Bass
They released their first album in 1999 titled Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. The album was later reworked as Synyster Gates made a guest appearance on the album (he played along with Zacky on To End the Rapture). The album was pretty much the same as their previous version just that the two versions of To End the Rapture are different on the two albums. The rerelease of Sounding the Seventh Trumpet was released in 2001. Two years later after touring and all the band went back to the studio but this time with Synyster Gates as the permentant 5th member. Their 3rd album was released in 2003 under Hopeless records titled Waking the Fallen. Their lead off single Unholy Confessions was a smash hit for them. The music video for the song wasn't all that great but worked nonetheless. The album to date is their greatest masterpiece. The band decided to tour for about a year until M. Shadows had to have his corrective surgery due to him rupturing one of his vocal chords while preforming on stage. Soon after his surgery the band entered the studio again but not before signing with Warner Bros. records. City of Evil was released June 7, 2005 and was a departure from their old Metalcore sound. The album was heavily criticized due tot he fact that M. Shadows no longer screamed on the tracks also the fact that the band added in more instrumental pieces and less lyrics. The album featured 4 singles; Bat Country, Beast and the Harlot, Burn It Down, Seize the Day. All singles had a music video made for them (except for Burn It Down, just a live performance). The band toured their asses only to sit down in late '06 to begin recording their 4th studio album expected to be released in October 2007.
Band (During Sounding the Seventh Trumpet rerelease) M. Shadows - Lead vocals, acoustic guitars Zacky Vengeance - Lead guitars, piano Reverend Tholomew Plague - Drums, percussions *Demeon Ash - Bass
*Demeon Ash was not featured on this album, Justin Sane played his parts.
Synyster Gates makes a guest appearance on To End the Rapture.
Band as of 2003:
M. Shadows - Lead Vocals Synyster Gates - Lead guitar, Piano, Backing vocals Zacky Vengeance - Guitars, Acoustic guitars, Backing vocals Johnny Christ - Bass The Rev. - Drums

Gates is an amazing guitarist! I may be overshooting a little but I think he may well be the new Eddie Van Halen, but that's saying a lot since Eddie is freakin AMAZING!

Ah, but since metalcore is a subdivision of metal, Heartagram was right when he called A7X that. biggrin
They were one of the first metal bands for me, too. ((I don't care if other people hated City of Evil, I thought it was beautiful and original)) The other metal band was KoRn, with See You On The Other Side. xd Again, it may not have been KoRn's most loved album among fans, but I loved it.

See You on the Other Side may not be most-loved, but it's one of my favorites. I gotta say Open Up would be my favorite song on the album. As for A7x, Metal this, metal that, it's still in category with metal (or you said subdivison), I like 'em somewhat. Not the best, not the worst. I've been into JRock lately...
