Durem Strip

Home of the Durem Depot, the Strip is Gaia's leading spot for commercialized counter-culture. Store shops, specialty shops, and underground clubs fight each other for a position on this celebrated section of Durem, and only the most trendy survive.

"Whee!"

Owle couldn't believe this! She wasn't even beginning to tire! She felt like she could just go on like this forever...

But she was pretty sure either Rage or Vahn was yelling at her to stop.

This proved to be something of a problem.

She tried to stop. She really did. But even though she stopped moving her legs, her body kept moving forward, forcing her to take another step, and another, and another, and another...

Owle started to panic. Somehow this did not seem like such a good thing anymore.

Where did that store window come from? gonk The wind finally blew the hair away from her eyes, just to reveal a large glass display window all of six feet right smack dab in front of her. It appeared to be some kind of trendy pet store, but Owle didn't have any time to aww over the ridiculously cute merchandise.

Only one thing to do. Owle still couldn't stop, so she released Vahn and Rage, brought her arms in front of her face, and shifted.

CRASH!

A small, round ball of scales went flying through the display window, shattering the glass. Rage and Vahn would probably manage to stop themselves long before the little ball of armored Owle plunked into one of the trendy little dog dishes. And there she sat, little round ball resting in a pink dog dish studded with little rhinestones that spelled out two little words: "Pampered Pooch"

The rest of the display wobbled unsteadily, sending a rain of Ian shaped squeak toys down around Owle's curled up form. Finally it stopped, seeming as though it would hold...for now.

Sure, Owle got to crash through the trendy little window. Rage was left heading towards the trendy little side of the building made out of solid brick. With no solid way to slow his body down, he was running on the tips of his toes trying not to fall over forward... and with little time to spare, he reeled his left fist back....

A not-so-trendy and not-so-little shockwave resounded parallel to the wall, right in the space where Rage's knuckles met a now very damaged wall with a fairly large dent in it. Just behind him a lone brick clattered against the ground.

He held his place for a few moments, huffing and trying to catch his breath, seeming to ignore the drops of blood that were forming a puddle directly underneath his gloved fist.

He was trying to respect Owle's freedom and will, but this... this was a little much.

With a strong tug from his right arm, he managed to pull his fist out of the trendy little bricks. "That one... stung a little."

"Um...sorry..."

Where the little ball had been before, Owle was sitting, her butt planted in the doggie dish and her legs akimbo. She was propped up on her arms, and staring in embarrassment at her brother and her...and Vahn.

"Are you...alright? I...got carried away, I guess..."

For pure comedic effect, Vahn plowed into Rage moments later, smashing Rage against the wall again and causing both to stagger for a moment.

"... super," said Rage, moving his bloodied hand to make sure nothing was broken. It wasn't.

[Insert Rage / Vahn arguement here.]

"Ugh...hey, let me bandage that for you..."

As she approached Rage with bandages, she couldn't help but start grinning again. "Did you see how fast I ran, though? These marbles are amazing!"

"No... it's fine, really..." said Rage, removing his glove. He was half-right - the skin had only split on one knuckle, but it was bleeding way more than one would expect.

Wait... he was trying this "accept someone else's opinion" thing that Owle was trying to push on him. What the hell, it was worth a shot. "Okay... go ahead. I guess it's just not like me to be missing bandages all over."

"Ah, it doesn't look too bad," Owle said, smiling happily. She'd have let him leave it alone if he wanted to, it would probably heal just fine on its own, but...

Taking a jar from out of her bag, Owle spread a little bit of salve on the wound, working it in. The stuff would sting a bit, but it would kill any infections before they got started.

Then she simply wrapped a bit of gauze around his knuckles, tying the ends tightly to make sure it didn't fall off.

"All done."

Owle Quinn... Medicine Woman.... Rage thought briefly as Owle did her thing. Once she was done, he slipped his glove back on and checked the mobility of his hand. Grip, ungrip. Grip, ungrip. Well, at least he could still hold a sword in his main hand, and that's all that he really cared about right now.

"Well, now that this chapter of pure terror has come to a close, where do you think we should head to next?"

"Um..."

Owle looked down at her feet, kicking at the broken glass on the sidewalk. Was it really that bad?

She'd been so proud of herself...it had felt so good to run.

"I don't know...that samurai said to go wherever the wind takes us, so..."

She ruffled her wings behind herself, patting them down until she found a loose feather. Pulling it free, she held it up before her. "And the wind is blowing..."

She let the feather fall from her fingers, allowing it to float on whatever breeze there was.

Giving Owle a gentle pat on the shoulder, Rage smiled. "You need to stop taking me so seriously. It's bad for your health." He watched the feather blow east, towards Durem Downtown.

"Hey, Pineapple, let's get moving!" He called towards Vahn, challenging Owle to a race before chasing the feather down.

From nearby came a loud, snuffling sound. Within the petshop a rather large, fairly humanoid shadow lurked, darting around cages, and sniffing at the air. Every five steps the shadow took, there was a crinkling sound, and followed by a few crunches.

He was sniffing again, as he poked his head out from behind a cage. There, a messy mop of brown hair covered a chubby little face, brown eyes locked onto the strangers in the pet store. A big, pink, wet tongue flicked out, licking his lips as he sniffed out towards them.

Dark stains surrounded his mouth. There were a lot of mixed colors, it was almost impossible to see what was there. Though quite a bit of it was red, and another part, brown.

He sniffed again, and a large, stained, sweaty white shirt appeared. This man, he looked big enough to swallow the Owle whole. He only seemed to be about 5 feet, but could easily have weighed 200, maybe 240 lbs. His white shirt was tight over his flabby physique, and grey sweatpants seemed to be used more for the stretchy waistband than any form of exercise.

"Oh, you are not going to beat me!" Owle replied, laughing as she started to run beside him. She held herself back a little this time, though...she didn't want to crash again, especially not into anyone.
