Name: Smokey, "Smoh-khee"
Age: Child, looks to be maybe 10-ish?
Race: Shadow Fiend
Skin tone: Seemingly a deeply tanned brown, with markings in light turquoise/teal
Eye color: Red
Hair color: Black, slightly curly, usually in varying stages of an unkempt mess, adorned with golden beads and the occasional found tidbits
Occupation: Playing games, helping out Mya, CAVE EXPLORER
Relationship status: Boys are stupid
Likes: Playground games, like hopscotch, hide-and-seek, tag, soccer … Spelunking (exploring the Bazaar’s many underground tunnels and store rooms), drawing/painting, food battles, growing plants (and, occasionally, mold >>), mud, puddles, animals, Mya, Mr. Tiger, all her friends.
Dislikes: Nightmares, being called a ‘cheater’, losing. Is occasionally afraid of the dark.
Neutral: Everyone’s parents.
Favorite color: Turquoise and teal
Favorite animal: Mr. Tiger, and cats in general. And bugs and earthworms, and mice, and lizards, and rats, and fish, and grasshoppers, and frogs, and anything you can spend hours with to try and catch really.
Preferred gem: Anything that looks pretty and/or interesting. She doesn’t really make a difference between pebbles, sea glass or gems. She has a thing for turquoise and coral though.
Preferred metal: Gold, or golden looking. Has a thing for colorful cloisonné.
Favorite food: As long as you can throw it at people …?
Favorite music: Anything that makes you want to dance to, really.
Personality: Smokey is quite a tomboy of a girl, preferring a soccer game in the streets of the bazaar over playing dress-up or with dolls any time. She likes it rough, is quite headstrong, and will not hesitate to emphasize her opinion with a punch if she’s under the impression it will make people listen to what she’s got to say.
She has, however, a very protective streak to her personality and a distinctive sense of what's Right and Wrong (like, stealing things from your friends to tease them and make them chase you clearly is
alright as long as you give said things back). She’ll stand up for those she considers weaker than her, even may take the blame for something
they have done. She’s very honest (occasionally painfully so), but may lie or steal to cover up for and protect her friends.
Usually quite cheerful and good-natured, this young fiend is oft suffering from very intense, terrifying nightmares that she cannot even remotely hope to understand at this time – they make no sense to her whatsoever.
They are what drove her away from Mythos, her original Guardian, to protect the frail little boy.
And it seems a creepy dark figure with green-glowing eyes from those dreams has become
real and has taken to stalking her ...
Acquaintances: Smokey currently lives with Mya, a practitioner of vodou-like witchcraft, and Mr. Tiger, a Very Large tabby tomcat.
Family: Like any other Shadow Fiend, Smokey has no real family, but is dearly loved and doted upon by Mya and Mr. Tiger, as well as her playmates and their parents. They’ve seen weirder things than faceless little girls who can meld with the shadows and walk through walls.
History: Smokey is quite unique, yes, even for being a Shadow Fiend. For once, she does not have a guardian, a soul-bond – not anymore, at least.
She
used to have one, Mythos, the kinder half of an Aduthule twin pair, representing the concept of Morality (which probably explains some of the traits Smokey’s got now). Mythos’ darker twin, Chronicles, embodied Corruption. Barely more than an infant, timid little ‘Thos was already suffering more than enough due to his mean twin’s brutal ‘games’ and mischief.
Smokey quickly realized that the nightmares she was involuntarily sharing through their bond might soon become
too much for the too kind little Guardian to bear on top of his twin’s constant abuse, so she somehow managed to do the impossible: She un-did the connection between their souls and
left.
Despite the fact it should be impossible for her to exist without a soul-bond Guardian, she happily continues to do so.
After an unknown time of wandering, Smokey eventually found a new home with Mya, an enigmatic witch and fortune teller, and Mr. Tiger, who’s more than just a pet cat.
But, wait, there’s
more: Smokey is, to this time and date, the only fiend whose soul is
known, at least by some. She used to be the man/entity known as Doran, the former arch nemesis of all the shadow fiends.
He was the one who originally trapped all those souls into stones – some innocent, some less so – until he eventually met the same fate in a final showdown including Hawk, Reyna, Athan and Mystic. The quartz which holds Smokey’s soul originally used to be perfectly clear, but darkened due to the corruptive power trapped within. Smokey herself has absolutely no memory nor knowledge of this.

The Stone: Quartz is the second-most-abundant mineral in the Earth's continental crust, after feldspar. It is made up of a continuous framework of SiO4 silicon–oxygen tetrahedra, with each oxygen being shared between two tetrahedra, giving an overall formula SiO2. There are many different varieties of quartz, several of which are semi-precious gemstones. Especially in Europe and the Middle East, varieties of quartz have been since antiquity the most commonly used minerals in the making of jewelry and hardstone carvings.
Smoky or smokey quartz is a brown to black variety of quartz. Like other quartz gems, it is a silicon dioxide crystal. The smoky colour results from free silicon, formed from the silicon dioxide by natural irradiation.
