|| Name || Rochelle 'Roxie' Greywood
|| Gender || Female
|| Age || Twenty
|| Date of Birth || September 22
|| In the Mirror || Roxie is a woman that blends in with everyone else. It’s not that she’s plain looking but there aren’t that many things that could qualify her to be described as ‘outrageously beautiful’. Sure, next to someone who looks like Betty from that tv show does she look extremely pretty. However, put her next to someone--like a super model--then her beauty isn’t fully recognize. Her locks are a coffee brown, coming down in soft waves to her shoulder blades. Roxie does take care of her hair--when she does have enough time in the morning, following the instructions on the bottles of shampoo and conditioner twice. This hair care regiment keeps those lovely locks pleasing to the eye, soft to the touch and smell heavenly. Not only does she take extra care of her hair but also her easily tanned skin as well. After all looks in this industry are everything. She uses herbal lotions and soaps to keep her skin young and healthy. Her optics are honey colored--why ‘honey’ and not ‘brown’ because honey is made from bees…and brown is made from dirt…her own logic, please don’t ask. The body structure of the ballerina is good the way it is, she is curvy but not too much where she can’t fit into a size five anymore. All though according to some of her teachers she could stand to lose a couple more pounds…Her height is five feet and five inches--perfect for dancing and her current weight is one hundred and fifteen pounds--most of it is muscle though.

The clothing style of this youth can be simply put: anything out of her closet she can grab quickly. The girl is all ways in such a rush in the morning--considering she goes to bed late and wakes up early thinking she‘s late. When she first wakes up--and after twenty minutes of trying to drag her butt out of bed--she heads over to her tiny closet that she shares with her brother. And sadly…they do share the same size. It does irk her sometimes Edwin‘s clothes are a bit tinier than hers…but he does do more activity than her in some aspects. Anyway, on those mornings sometimes she pulls out her denim pants or her brother‘s black pants…and sometimes there are those ‘unisex' pants that can‘t be classified as male or female--all thanks to the Salvation Army store. It‘s only the pants that Roxie obsesses about…men‘s pants are fine--she‘s had to wear a few of them--but she prefers her own gender of pants. As for shirts, she couldn‘t care less. Either way it‘ll be taken off for ballet practice or covered up by a jacket. Sometimes she‘ll wear a scarf around her neck for the hell of it or fingerless gloves to give her that ‘hobo’ look. Finally to adorn her feet are a pair of sneakers that are two years old. Sure they have…some rips here and there but they‘re comfy! And great when running down the streets to catch the bus.

|| Heritage || Spanish and Italian decent, born in America or more specifically New York City.
|| Orientation || //A straight line.
|| Height/Weight || Five feet and five inches/one hundred and fifteen pounds.
|| Other || Nothing else that would prove to be interesting.
|| Every Day || Ballerina
|| Hates: || Cherries, apricots, the bus being late, incompetent dancers who kiss up to the choreographer to get solos, bees, spiders, loud places, taxis, cold weather, cold water...anything to do with the cold--the only exemption is ice cream.
|| Likes || Her teddy bear Corduroy, kittens, musicals, popcorn, chocolate dipped strawberries, The Bonesetter's Daughter by Amy Tan, Center Stage--the movie, Chili-cheese fries, romance books, swimming, ballet, hard candies, alternative music, dance genre music, classical piano and iced tea.
|| Personality || Just who is this person named Roxie? At first glance she fit’s the whole ‘ballerina’ stereotype. The girl who worries the most about her weight, and carries around a big attitude. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. Sure, the girl worries about her weight. What woman in this day and age doesn’t worry about their own weight thanks to what Hollywood determines is ‘beautiful’. Plus she is a dancer and all dancers have to fall into the healthy/appropriate weight category. Roxie watches what she eats but loves in to indulge herself with the once in a blue moon meal of pizza for dinner, chili-cheese fries for lunch, a breakfast wrap for breakfast and a pint of ice cream for desert. She isn’t a picky eater just as long as its healthy and if not…she can burn it off with the aide of a stair master or mile run. However if she’s really tired…then exercise can wait for a while, but no longer than three days after pigging out. Though these days her teachers are giving her subtle hints to cut back on the hard candies.

In her goal to be the ideal weight she has faced temptation. Sometimes the darker side of her will tempt her just to throw up what she’s eaten in an effort to maintain her weight or not eat for half of the day. The girl hasn’t given into such temptation, knowledge from health class of the consequences of anorexia and bulimia are burned into her mind. Even with that knowledge in mind she’s only human and sometimes forgets to eat breakfast in the morning--her excuse, ‘I was running late and couldn’t grab a bite to eat’. Her brother keeps a watchful eye on her eating habits, sometimes acting as her nutritionist by snatching away a energy bar for something better like steamed rice and veggies. When nearing that time of the month is when Roxie really gets body conscious. Her body bloating and her cravings larger than ever, she looks in the mirror to make sure her appearance is still the same. No big belly or lose flab of skin, and checking her weight on the scale. Once that week is over does she go back into her natural eating habits , but she still has that nagging feeling in the back of her mind to be more careful of what she eats.

Another aspect of Roxie is she is quite competitive when it comes to ballet. She wants to be the Prima Donna in every show. Around competition Roxie will transform into a ice queen, giving haughty looks or side glares to stake her claim. One could say she has a one track mind about these things and the melodramatic idea of ‘If I don’t get this part I’ll die!’. And of course there have been those occasional ‘sabotage’ plans but most of them are half-cooked and would get her kicked out of the company. What she does to combat such evil thoughts would be practice like there’s no tomorrow. She’ll go to class very early in the morning, around six thirty to practice alone in one of the many mirror rooms. She’ll either practice the audition routine or compose a strict regiment of twenty plies, thirty pirouettes or any other combinations she can think of that could give her the upper hand.

When the audition process deals with partner dances or Pas de Deux, that would Roxie’s weak point. She doesn’t mesh well with some of the male dancers. For a lack of a better word, she doesn’t trust them. Her trust in the opposite sex wavers, first it was her father. He told her everything would be fine, he would take care of himself. Then suddenly he dies of a heart attack, the heartbreak of losing her father was great--after all she was a kid when he passed away. Then there’s her brother. She thought they could tell each other everything--and he held true to that. She was the second person he told of his coming out--the first person being his crush, which was an albeit not so smart move. Roxie felt a tad bit betrayed, after all she looked up to her brother for the kind of man she should maybe marry…and of course when she was first learning how to do the Pas de Deux the boys stepped on her foot and at one point dropped her in mid-lift. In general she’ll be friends with the opposite sex but it will take her time to open on or even try that trust exercise.

If Roxie didn’t get the part she aimed for then for a while she’ll be jealous of the person who got the role. But all is fair in love, war and auditions! After a while--give it two days to a week--she’ll get over it, that’s the mature thing to do. Besides if one door closes, then another one will open…and if not then she could simply climb out a window. That’s a small quirk of Roxie’s, making stupid quotes and randomly inserting them into the conversation. Which most of the time gets laughs followed by the comment, ‘lay off on the sweets’ or receive awkward silence and the blank ‘wha?’ stare. Her logic is a bit…funny and random which gives her a air of naivety around her. If she does get the part she wants, Roxie will flaunt it around for a while. Not constantly rub it in your face by changing the topic to her but giving subtle hints. If she annoys someone with her flaunty just give her a good smack upside the head and she‘ll go back to being normal. She just gets so excited like a little kid on Christmas day that she got the part. That aspect of hers could be define as some sort of innocence that hasn‘t gone away just quite yet, and maybe because she hasn‘t lost her last baby tooth has something to do with that. Anyway, that‘s probably one of the few times you‘ll see Roxie hyper about anything--sure the girl likes to have fun but to get hyper over it is a bit annoying to her.

Though she can be annoying in her own ways, like when biting her nails when nervous. Or drumming her fingers on any surface when she‘s bored or upset. And of course when she‘s arranging her room, if something is out of place Roxie will go just a tad bit crazy over it. She‘ll give you a cold stare before rolling her eyes and putting everything back in its place. Arranging her room is the one thing she has control over, and who doesn‘t like to have some control over one thing? Other than that, Roxie is a nice girl. She’ll try her best to help a friend out unless its something illegal--then they’re on their own there.

Aside from being a dancer there is more to the girl. She does have time to watch those medical shows on television. Currently the ones that keep drawing her in are House and Grey’s Anatomy. The plot twists and interesting character development really hook the girl into spending her nights watching the shows either with her mother or brother. Sometimes she’ll have a bowl of fat free popcorn--Styrofoam tasting--in hand. On the rare occasion does she watch the Simpsons, she’s not a big fan but who knows. She might just grow to liking the cartoon. Sometimes you'll find her talking endlessly about what's going on from one of her favorite medical shows. From who she thinks is going to get with who--she has no love life-- or what the next plot twist could be.

With all other things aside, Roxie is just like everyone else. She can get her feelings hurt, be a real b***h when sick--or when a certain visitor comes once a month, be stupid at times and have embarrassing moments from time to time.

|| My past || Roxie is the second child of her family, the first born being her brother Edwin. Both siblings are three years apart and lived with both parents till Roxie was eight years old. The young girl had a pretty good childhood, her father the owner of his own grocery store and mother the manager at the local diner. Both parents wanted to give their children the best but being workers of the middle class came up short on some important dates like birthdays, Christmas and Easter. However the home was filled with warm and love. Birthdays were spent with the family of course with some cousins hanging around--at least they brought presents, which when one is young is all you care about. There were some traditions while attending a Greywood party, one there had to be pasta. Second, a piñata must be present and the color must rotate every year--why they had this tradition was a big mystery to Roxie until she found out just how Edwin was conceived. Its considered a family inside joke and a constant knee-slapper. The third part of the tradition was created by accident. Every year a funny event all ways happened in the Greywood house hold that day. Like for example, when Edwin accidentally locked himself in the bathroom during Roxie’s third birthday party. And how Uncle Marty--age twenty three at the time--mistook a laxative for a chocolate at Edwin’s tenth birthday party. Needless to say, Uncle Marty couldn’t fully enjoy himself that day.

When in school Roxie was an average child, going to class and making friends. Her grades were pretty normal, some B’s, few C’s and the rare A in a couple of classes. She wasn’t the most popular girl nor was she the outcast. She just sort-of fell in between crowds. In elementary school, the girl was part of the ‘girly’ squad. Those types of girls who did nothing but talk about how they couldn’t wait to grow up and wear lovely dresses. During the second grade field trip did her interest in dance sparked. The entire class went to see a classic ballet, The Nutcracker. Roxie couldn‘t believe what she was seeing before her, children dancing on stage in the most beautiful way she‘d ever seen. Each dancer had their own part but worked as a group and performed with such grace only an angel could posses. At least, that was Roxie‘s opinion, though the fact the boy dancers had to wear tights did make her giggle a bit. After seeing that performance she begged her parents for ballet lessons and after a few months of saving up were able to afford it. Those ballet lessons were heaven for the little girl who one day dreamed of becoming a prima ballerina.

However, those ballet lessons had to stop after the death of her father. He died by heart attack, the man didn‘t listen to his doctors when they told him his cholesterol levels were too high. The poor man died at the age of thirty-eight--the murderer, a double ponder with cheese followed by an argument with a food supplier. On December first was Christian Nathan Greywood buried in the local cemetery with a plain grey head stone simply reading; Here lies Christian Nathan Greywood. A good man, a loving husband and sentimental father. On the day her father was buried Roxie’s trust in men diminished slightly. All that kept going through her head as she watched with teary eyes her father’s black casket lowering into the ground was, He promised to be there for my dance recital.. The recital on her mind would be her first time performing just a week prior to his death. Edwin took on the role of being a father to the eight year old. Her mother quiet her job at the dinner to become a full time owner and worker of the fine store her father had left them.

Though at times when Edwin was stern and trying to discipline Roxie she retorted back by yelling, “You’re not dad!” before crying up stairs to their room and locking the door. The words cut both siblings, Edwin because he didn’t ask for the role of being a father to his sister but still donned it for it was expected of him. And Roxie because she insulted her brother, the closest thing she had to a father-figure. During middle school times were for the most part, stable. Her mother was hardy at home to raise them because the store required a lot of her attention and Edwin worked there as a box boy. At school Roxie was a normal child, part of the ‘normies’. She wasn’t popular as the preps, jocks or cheerleaders, weird enough to be with those kids who sat in the corner to poke things with a stick and she certainly wasn’t smart enough to be classified as a geek. For a long time the dance lessons stopped until went to high school and found the beauty of taking free dance classes. Immediately she tried out for the beginning dance team and made it. Throughout her high school career she was apart of some dance team and learned about other dances that interested her. She had her whole heart set on becoming a dancer, college wasn’t an option for this girl. Even though her mother constantly left subtle hints about college, Roxie just found it wasn’t for her. To her dance college was for those people who had the money to afford higher education. Sure their financial status could’ve granted her a student loan by the government but that would take years to pay off.

Then that day came…Edwin coming out of the closet. She was the second person he told. The older boy consoled in his sister how he felt about his own gender and while it took some time for Roxie to adjust, she found the benefit of having a gay brother. First, they could hit on guys together at the mall, she would all ways have a shopping buddy living with her who knew what was going on in the fashion world--or at least in the cheap clothing stores. And, the fact he was the same size of pants as her meant more clothes for her to wear. Though the down side was her hopes of finding guy like Edwin to date…came crashing down. She thought her brother was a great guy--mind you she didn’t have this fixation on her older sibling--but the teen thought about a guy that would be like Edwin, or at least a guy Edwin would approve of. But now learning her brother was gay tainted her perception of guys. Now she views guys as friends and not potential dating material--which would explain why she hasn’t dated in a long while. When the time came to tell their mother…he was in his junior year of college and she in her last year of high school. Roxie knew one for one entire year her brother was gay--how she managed to keep it from their mother is thanks to brilliant lies and good timing with said lies.

The mother took time to adjust to her son being gay. First she thought it was some joke but as she saw how her son really was. The things he kept secret for so long…and the explanation as to why Roxie had some of those magazines. She tried to convince her son he was going through a phase and would soon grow out of it. The older woman tried to set him up on blind dates which didn’t work out too well in the end. After two years did their mother accept her son for who he truly was--though she tries to set Roxie up on dates which in Edwin’s case didn’t work out too. During that time of acceptance to Edwin’s new gender preference for dates did Roxie graduate high school. Amazingly she gradated with a 3.2 GPA and auditioned for the American Ballet Company. She barely made the cut--her name being the last one on the list--but nonetheless made it! The young girl was so overjoyed at her acceptance, this meant she was one step closer to her dreams! Though being a ‘grunt’ at the company was a bit grueling--proving herself and taking criticism left and right by her dance instructors--she managed to make it through the first year.

As of now the young woman is slowly working her way up the ladder in the company. First she was a grunt and now she’s at least considered a ‘decent’ ballerina--though in her own opinion she could dance circles around some of the other girls. She received one to two staring roles in a few performances but still has a long way to go to reach her dreams.

Upon Arrival

Just how did a ballerina land, of all places on Dr. Moreau’s island? Funny story really…

After coming home from learning the results of auditions for Beauty and Beast--to which she saw she was cast as the understudy of Belle--did her brother appear before her suddenly. The girl let out a shriek, clutching her pink duffle bag to her chest, thinking a robber had come through the window just as she walked in the door--highly unlikely but living in New York, it could happen. After trying to clam his sister down-and avoiding her duffle bag of doom--did he spring the sudden surprise on her.

She had won a free island retreat!

Naturally Roxie was a tiny bit suspicious of the retreat--she didn’t recall herself entering in any contest but Edwin explained he entered her. Accepting the lie--he couldn’t very tell her the truth he didn’t know how she own either but thought it best she go on the retreat--Roxie began to weigh her options. She had a commitment to the Ballet Company, she was the understudy! She had to be at every grueling rehearsal, learn the part of Belle--with no hopes of ever performing it--and learn other parts as well just to stay in the show. Or she could go on a small retreat to relax, get in shape--her teachers again made it a point to remind her of taking a diet--and above all else…have her girl pants all to herself!

Still…she was also a student at the company…but taking a few days off wouldn’t kill her right? With this reasoning in mind Roxie packed her bags and set off on her new journey…well temporary journey. And hopefully by then Edwin will have placed little tags on his pants/clothing so she won’t confuse his for hers at the crack of dawn with her eyes closed. That night before her trip Roxie was too anxious to sleep, she actually won a island retreat and tomorrow she would be leaving for a well deserved rest. Sure her ballet company was a bit peeved at her sudden time off request but she promised when she returned, she'll be the best ballerina they have ever seen.

With her suit fully packed, Edwin took his sister to the dock where the ship or boat would take his sister away to a nice and above all else relaxing island. Her locks of hair were down with the ends flipped out. A pair of light sunglasses covering her eyes, while hanging around her neck was a black cross on a thin silver chain. Her torso was covered by a baby blue collared top with a tiny seagull on the left breast pocket while her legs were covered by fading denim jeans with rips at the knees. On her feet were her pair of comfortable black and white converse. Finally a sprinkle of lavender perfume across her skin, after that Roxie declared herself ready to go to the island. Edwin gave her a comment on how ‘city’ she looked but Roxie shrugged it off and couldn’t wait for her trip of fun and relaxation to start.

Animal Kingdom

All information gathered here can be found at Whozoo (*), AKRive(-) and Wikipedia (~).

Crane:

This beautiful create is a Japanese crane, also known as red-crowned crane, Manchurian crane and of course its scientific name: Grus japonensis.

(~)Scientific classification:

Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chrodata
Class: Aves
Order: Gruiformes
Family: Gruidae
Genus: Grus

(*)(-) Appearance:

†‡ The height of this bird reaches to just over five feet.
†‡ Weighs up to twenty pounds.
†‡ Pigmentation of the body, Snow-white
†‡ Pigmentation of tips of the wings and legs, black.
†‡ Wingspan reaches to about eight feet.
†‡ A red circle on the top of its head which is actually the skin of the bird.
†‡ Differences between males and females are the coloring in throats, cheeks and necks. In Males these specific body parts are black, while in females they are pearly grey.

Habitat:

†‡Marshes with deep waters and croplands. All though during the different seasons they travel to different places. Such as feeding on pasture lands in the summer and moving to coastal salt marsh, rice paddies, cultivated fields, rivers and freshwater marshes in winter time.

(-)Diet:

†‡Insects, aquatic invertebrates, fish, amphibians, rodents, reeds, grasses, heath berries, corn, and other plants. How they capture their food is a ‘walk and peck’ technique.

(*) General information:

†‡Red-crowned cranes are very communal and live in flocks. They are the second rarest species of crane, the whooping crane of North America being the rarest. There are between 1700 to 2000 red-crowned cranes in all of Eastern Asia. It is one of the world's largest birds, and also one of the largest cranes. These cranes are migratory which explains their various types of food they eat. During the spring and summer the cranes fly east to the wetlands in temperate East Asia. This is where they breed. The cranes winter along rivers and in salt and freshwater marshes in Japan, China, and the Korean Peninsula. The red-crowned cranes are generally monogamous, that is, mated birds stay together throughout the year, and even until one bird dies. Both the male and female build the nest. The female usually lays two eggs that hatch at the same time. Once the eggs hatch, the female is more involved with the domestic affairs while the male is responsible for defense. These cranes are considered to be sacred to the Japanese people, and were declared the national Japanese bird in 1952.

Special anatomical, physiological or behavioral adaptations:

†‡The red-crowned crane is named for the red "cap" on top of its head, which is exposed red skin. The crane's large size help it resist many different predators. It can also outrun the predators with its speed. The bill of the red-crowned crane is very pointed and sharp, the crane uses it like a spear. The shape of its bill makes it easier to gather food.
User Image

The crane uses very elaborate dances for courting and other communication between each other. This dance consists of series of bows, head bobbing, leaps, and various other gestures. They also have a "unison call" between the male and the female before getting into other dance elements. They are also very curious animals who will want to inspect whatever is in front of them. They walk proudly and gracefully, above all else are peaceful and serene creatures.

The red-crowned cranes rub a special oil that is secreted at the top of their tail on their feathers to keep them conditioned. They are excellent flyers that fly long distances during the migratory seasons, they also have large home areas . The cranes nest and feed in marshes with deep water and will only nest in areas with standing dead vegetation. The Japanese people consider the red-crowned cranes to be a sign of fidelity in marriage. The Chinese believe that these cranes are a sign of luck and peace.

(~)(-)Mythology and Fun Facts:

†‡ In Japan the crane is said to live a thousand years.
†‡ In China the crane is often featured in fairy tales, with either a sage or immortal riding them, sometimes they are called Fairy Cranes.
†‡ Symbol of fidelity, good luck, and love.

Why this animal:

†‡Any ballerina or dancer would love to be as graceful as a swan crane. These animals are beautiful to look at and appear to be the most graceful at everything, from courtship to eating and finally walking. Besides, swans are too cliché.

How does your Character get to/why was your character chosen for the Island?

†‡Perhaps for entertainment purposes? And not that kind for those of you with dirty minds! All islands need some sort of entertainment and the art of ballet is dying these days, so why not resurrect it with the ballerina’s being the most profound dancers in the animal kingdom? Cranes have their own sort of dance that is very pleasing to the eye so why not transform a human to obtain such grace and elegance? If not ballet then another type of dance to please the artistically deprived crowd, Roxie is a quick learner. Plus she is an up and coming star...or at least in the makings of it.

Basic transformation process idea/gist of it.

†‡ 0%--99.9999% up to the artist. Roxie packed some random clothes in her bag--they can even mismatch!

†‡ 25%---99.9999% up to the artist. Just some small changes like a spot on her head becoming bald and/or red. Her skin turning different shades to prepare itself for the shading of feathers and neck lengthening. Perhaps a small beak appearing?

†‡ 50%--99.9999% up to the artist. Some feather sprouting with her legs turning stick figured and knees bending backwards?

†‡ 75%---99.9999% up to the artist. Body basically covered in feathers, legs and feet changed to that of a Crane’s…some locks of hair.

†‡ 100%--99.9999% up to the artist. And I have no clue! xD

Basically my imagination has dried up at this point so anything is perfectly fine with me! ^-^

Alternative animals:

†‡ Lamprologus brevis Ikola
†‡ Metriaclima zebra OB blueberry
†‡ Cuttlefish
