|| Reflections || Elea, to be quite frank isn’t the girl you’ll find on television. Her skin isn’t flawless nor is her face perfect for any artist to sketch--let alone send a country off to war like Helen of Troy. However, it isn’t fair to label her as a ‘Ugly Betty’. Elea is a little bit of both worlds--she isn’t a picture perfect model on the cover of a magazine but she is pleasing to the eye if you dress her correctly. The skin of this twenty-two year old is quite healthy even with a slightly pale complexion--thank you British ancestors. Sprinkled across her slightly rosy cheeks are light freckles of cinnamon brown. To compliment the coloring of her beauty marks are her eyes, a pleasant shade of jade.
Her locks are a shade of brewed tea, light in coloring when dry and out in the sun but darker when wet--almost border line black. A widow’s peak marks where her hair line starts, and those locks end up reaching just barely past her shoulder blades. However its very rare to catch Elea with her hair down, preferring to keep such tresses confined in a messy bun and tucked away under a baseball cap. If the girl took the time to actually blow dry her straight hair out a nice clean shine would a raise but since she prefers to leave her hair partly wet most of the time causes her hair to frizz up, hence the reason for the baseball cap.
The body type of this girl is well…flat. Not flat as board but close to it. Her bust size is a humble B and her petite form doesn’t give her an hour glassy figure…but Elea is content with her body image! Her stomach is flat and her legs are nice shape along with her arms--thank you gym membership. And, she does have a bit of a bum but it proportional to the rest of her body. What she lacks for having a ‘plain Jane’ body type does she make up in height. The young woman stands at five feet and five in a half inches! That’s taller than most of the girl’s Elea has met--including her mother.
Now that’s just the physical aspects of Elea, now onto the girl’s sense of fashion. To her, jeans can be worn to any event. From formal to everyday wear, jeans are the way to go for this girl. The style of jeans various from what she has to do. If she has to attend a formal event then a pair of designer denim will adorn her lower half--preferably with a design on the side of the pant leg or other creative design. If she’s going to work--which she currently hates--then some wash out jeans with some rips here and there. To match her jeans is a top or two covering her torso area. If she’s wearing a low cut shirt then a undershirt will be worn, or if it’s a long sleeved collared shirt then no need for any under coverings. Depending on the outfit will a blazer be worn or not and of course if in a hurry then a baseball cap will be worn on her head. One could suppose to style of this girl is casual with a small splash of hip-ness--it does some applied thought to know what to wear and what not to wear.

|| Personality || When one thinks o f a journalist, what comes to mind? Television? Those oh-so fabulous television personalities who dish out information the public needs to know? Elea can be described as someone of that level. There are two distinct personas of Elea, her reporter side and her regular side.
The reporter side of the girl wants to find out the truth to anything she’s reporting on, the entire truth of it. To her, reporting anything means solving a mystery. One has to find the sources to support the content of any article, be thoroughly researched and be phrased adequately for the public to understand it entirely. Along with making sure the facts of her article match up correctly. When at work Elea does take her job seriously--even though she’s currently writing for such a ludicrous newspaper. Her desk must all ways be in an orderly fashion otherwise, be prepared for an ear full from a not so happy writer. Everything at work has its designated place, from the pencils and pens to every single paper. They each have a designated area to be placed--with labels too! Yes, Elea is a bit obsessive compulsive towards these things but she can control it at times. If a pencil is out of place within five minutes it’ll be placed back to its specified location.
The compulsive disorder can only be controlled for a short amount of time but at least she can control it just for a tiny, tiny bit. Thankfully this is only applied to only to her proclaimed ‘sanctified’ places. Her desk at work being one of them and the second being her bedroom. Both must be in perfect condition when she leaves and returns every single day. But getting back onto her reporter side, she does take every case seriously. Whatever else is going on in the world will have to be on hold, what she needs to learn is top priority. No personal days will be taken, no parties or any other social events will she attend, everything ahs to be on hold. Well except grocery shopping, and doing the dishes and clothes. Once her article is complete does she go back to being ‘normal’.
Now, the regular side of Elea is just that. Elea’s ‘regular’ side is just like everyone else’s. In her spare time does she like to read or watch whatever is on television. On the rare occasion does she call her parents or other family members to see what she’s missed while on assignment. The freckled girl doesn’t get along with part of her family due to reasons that won’t be disclosed, in laments terms…the most she’ll ever do is give a birthday present to her relative. Just don’t expect her to be the one to throw a surprise birthday party for her sister. Sure, she’ll smile, wave and say everything is all right with her relationship with whatever family member when its not. The reason why such things slip pass her lips is because its what the other person wants to hear, and not what she truly feels.
This not only applies to her family but also to those around her. Its not that Elea is afraid of telling what she really thinks of people, rather she’s a pacifist. By saying what the other person wants to hear avoids conflict which is something no body wants to have in their life. However, that doesn’t mean she’ll tell you everything you want to hear. If a person asks Elea for her opinion on something then she’ll give said person the watered down version of what she truly thinks. Its not that her original opinions are cynical or harsh but they could be taken that way. There are only two exceptions to this, one being Elea only tells her best friend what she’s truly thinking and two when she’s writing. It’s part of her job to be harsh--at times--and report the truth as it with tons of evidence to back it up.
Aside from those things, Elea is a nice person when she wants to be. She’ll attend the events she wants to go, see a movie with her best friend and do the other things the average person does.
|| History || On May 24, 1984 was Elea born to Maxwell and Melissa Fairchild. Elea is currently the youngest girl and third child in a family of four. Her brother Adam is three years older than her which makes her sister Eve two years older than Elea. The last addition to the family was little Abraham after Elea was just two years old. Growing up in a family of four children and two parents is suppose to be entertaining and happy. In Elea’s case it wasn’t that at all. Adam and Eve were all ways trying to outdo each other in terms of grades and career choices and Abraham got whatever he needed or wanted.
The need for attention from either parent was hard to get, in fact one way Elea all ways received any sort of attention came from parent-teacher conferences. At school like her siblings did the young girl get good grades and at home she kept to herself. She couldn’t play with the other children because she either needed to take care of her brother or her brother wanted to take her to the mall. Apparently using a little sibling was a great way for girl’s to notice a guy.
As the year’s went by Elea was still part of the family but most of the time her siblings didn’t talk to her. Each sibling had their own little click while Elea made a click for herself, participating in book events such as book fairs or hanging out at the library. The early years to late teen years went by like a blur. Adam was the first to graduate college, earning a degree in Theology. It’s a bit of a mystery to why Adam graduated with such a degree considering he was good in soccer but it was his choice. The next one to graduate college was Eve, earning a degree in women’s studies and becoming an advocate for women’s rights…well not really. More like a lobbyist for some women’s organization. Elea graduated with a degree in Journalism and currently her baby brother is finishing up his last year in college.
Right after the young woman left college she took the first job she could get…the National Inquirer…not the best choice of her life. Her sister and brothers make little jokes about her line of work to which Elea just takes it with a grain of salt. However, she desperately wants to get out of writing fake news and work for a big time company. Nothing like CNN but she has all ways been interested in writing about other places, from the politics to the natural habitat of some of the local animals.
|| Why this creature || Since a leafy sea dragon is fragile all ready it would interesting for a human to change into such a delicate creature. How would the human psyche change? Would a person turning into a fragile creature be loyal to the one person who could offer the best protection? Also, considering Elea was overlooked as a child and now has to be cared for in her 'condition', it would be interesting to see what happens to her mind. Plus the leafy sea dragon is not only cool to look at but also interesting to learn about since not much is known about this animal.
|| Why come to the island || Right now Elea is doing anything in her power to write a fantastic article to present to any major magazine company. She’s heard rumors of Moreau’s island and what better way to get a new job than to do an undercover piece to expose the truth of the island? That’ll surely get her a job with Discovery, National Geographic or heck even the LA Times. So what did this girl do? She signed up to be part of the experiment. Likely her family won't really notice thinking she went on some foolish hunt for Bigfoot for the paper she works for and her friends...they know Elea is trying to research something which could takes years to complete--or so she told them.

Description & Behavior
The Leafy sea dragon, Phycodurus eques (Günther, 1865), aka Leafy seadragon, get their common names from the leaf-like appendages on the body. The Leafy sea dragon has more of the leaf-like appendages on the body than the closely-related Weedy sea dragon. Both species resemble floating pieces of seaweed which makes them difficult for predators to find in their natural habitat. They reach a total length of 35 cm.
World Range & Habitat
These superbly camouflaged fishes are only found in Australia's temperate waters. This species has only been recorded from the southern coastline of Australia, from Kangaroo Island, South Australia to Rottnest Island, Western Australia. These fishes live over sand patches among kelp-covered rocks below the low tide line in depths from about 3-50 m.
Feeding Behavior (Ecology)
The Leafy sea dragon has a long pipe-like snout with a small terminal mouth. It feeds on plankton, mysids and other small crustaceans. One of the most spectacular examples of camouflage: neither prey nor predators recognize it as a fish.
Life History
Unlike seahorses, sea dragons do not have a pouch for rearing the young. Instead, the male carries the eggs fixed to the underside of his tail from where they eventually hatch. When male sea dragons are ready to receive eggs from the female, the lower half of the tail on the male appears wrinkled. During mating, the female lays 100-250 eggs onto a special 'brood patch' on the underside of the male's tail, where they are attached and fertilized. This brood patch, consisting of cups of blood-rich tissue each holding one egg, and is specifically developed by the male for use during the breeding season of August-March. The bright pink eggs become embedded in the cups of the brood patch, receiving oxygen via the cups' blood vessels. During each breeding season, male Leafy sea dragons will hatch two batches of eggs. After a period of about 4-6 weeks from conception, the male 'gives birth' to miniature juvenile versions of sea dragons. As soon as a baby sea dragon leaves the safety of its father's tail, it is independent and receives no further help from its parents. For 2-3 days after birth, the baby sea dragons are sustained by their yolk sac. After this, they hunt small zooplankton, such as copepods and rotifers, until large enough to hunt juvenile mysids. Sea dragons grow to a length of 20 cm after one year, reaching their mature length at two years. In the wild, young sea dragons are preyed upon by other fish, crustaceans and evn sea anemones. Young sea dragons look more delicate, and are often differently colored than adults, and may hide in different types of seaweeds.
Comments
The Leafy sea dragon is a rare sight and a very fragile creature. Handling of any sort is discouraged due to the likelihood of injuring this animal. It does seem to enjoy having it's picture taken though.
