what the hell kinda assesment is that? first thing is they both make a jazz band.
i'm not sure waht exactly denotes jazziness, you can stick even an oboe in a jazz band and it works. both instruments offer different qualities to the music. typically trumpet has shout sections and saxes get really cool solis. just how it is.

EVERYONE Knows Tromebone is the real Jazz thing. You can't have a jazz band without a tromebone. and if you do, then your jazz band sucks!!

I don't think one instrument can be jazzier than another. What are you basing this on, anyway?

Any instrument can be jazzy. It's the player that makes it jazzy. It all depends on the player.

No, Sax is the jazziest instrument because of the time it was invented. It was invented after the rest of the woodwind and brass instruments and thus as no place in an orchestral setting and only is used to augment instruments like French horn, and trombone in a wind band setting. Thus the sax is a Jazz instrument being played in a classical setting whereas the other instruments where originally played in a classical setting and where brought over to jazz after its creation.

I'd say that trumpet is generally jazzier (of course I'm rather partial towards it considering it's I play) but that it also takes a good band overall to get that sound

Now we all know that bari sax is the jazziest instrument out there... If Gerry Mulligan played it... You know how the saying goes.

That's like asking which one is better at concert band. Anything can be jazz; my friend plays jazz flute. And I agree with mostly everyone here: It depends on the player. A sax teacher I know hates jazz sax with a passion, while my friend's trumpet teacher enjoys it.
