On Wednesday Jan. 3rd, Samnang Kok was shot by Douglas Chanthabouly in the 300 hall. He died of his injuries on the scene. I didn't know either of them, but it upset me that this could happen in my school.

Does anyone have comments on the situation?

I am a 2004 alumni for Foss and am still shocked about the shooting. I am apalled by what some have said about the shootings in the Tacoma paper's blog: http://community.thenewstribune.com/?q=node/7880

Foss is a school full of diversity- it is actually one of the most diverse schools in the nation. The instructors are also fabulous. Though I visited on a college project observing high school culture- I could see that the students were out of control. I also have friends that were in the ROTC room that is right next to where the student was killed- one who actually saw him shot. I feel for both families and as well as students and friends who witnessed or knew both students. It will forever change the school- but I hope it won't destroy its reputation- it is not the school's fault- as well as the victim's. No one asks to be shot!

That is indeed a sad situation. I wonder why he was shot. Have they said what caused it to happen?

Last I saw was schitzophrenia, for those who do not know, a psychological disorder. Since the family is Cambodian, it is likely they didn't know the true symptoms or cound not afford medication that can cover all of it.

My school is two blocks from Foss school. The killer was still running around the neighborhood, and we didn't even have a lockdown... (and we have an open campus.) gonk

Do you go to Bellermine or somthin? The killer was caught north of the Fred Meyer on Steven's just south of 12th... pretty crazy stuff. I haven't heard much more about why he shot him though- all I know is they are suspecting skitzophrenia (sp?)
