In this area, you may post and read information about user-run groups, such as the Zurg Hive and that shady GIB.

However, I would like to stress that I do not consider any group made up of Gaians our enemy-- even if they no longer look like us, they started out like us, and I believe that in their hearts they are Gaians still.

Old old old old old old necro post coming your way, 6-year-ago-Tim.
I will be detailing my experiences with the Zurg Hive in this and other following posts, being careful not to mention names (as to prevent name dropping) and replacing them with code names.
Everybody but myself of course.

This is a placeholder post... because I have a LOT to type.

Zurg Hive... where to begin...

Back in 2006, I was crazy for the Zurg plot. I was scrambling to get into any plot guild I could sink my grubby little hands on. Zurg Hive rejected me because I had a GIB ID in my sig, and GIB rejected me and called me a spy because I had the ID in my sig but wasn't part of the guild.

In 2007 I joined a group called Legion X, where 2 friends in there were affiliated with the Hive. The Hive at the time had an academy program where people could take courses and, if they passed, were allowed entry into the guild. If a member managed to get someone into the academy, it would reflect well on their personal record and increase their chances of getting a "promotion" (I'll explain those in a bit).

While in the Academy I took courses on learning the entire history of the Zurg plotline, learning the names of every UFO, learning the various factions, learning the "uniform" they had, and learning how to make avatars with the Zurg Skin that didn't suck. I barely passed, but I was admitted into the guild.

When you're first introduced into the guild you're a meatshield rank.

The Hive has several ranks, each with different responsibilities.

Meatshields- Newblets
Grunts - Lesser Nooblets
Drones - Average Users
Warriors - Above Average Users
Raiders - Above Average Users with responsibilities
Officers - The crew of the guild
Commanders - Highly influential Officers that have gone above and beyond the line of duty.
Quonquestial (I forgot the spelling) Commander - Honorary title for special cases of extreme loyalty and servitude.
Overlord - The current elected leader of the Hive.
Empress- Only UFO 06 may hold this title.

The Overlord position was sort of like a presidency, where a new one was elected every few years. The hive ran amazingly until A certain overlord I will code-name Elithabeth passed down her crown to a user I will refer to a Pants. Pants was a good overlord, but he didn't have much time for his people, and couldn't keep watch for long. He passed it down to Ms. Green-Name-Werewolf who passed it down to the current leader today.

I need time to gather more of my thoughts on the matter.

The Ranking system worked as an encouragement enticer to motivate users into being more active within the guild and in outer-guild events. It started as a system of leadership but developed into more than that.

When you were active enough in the hive (IE posted a shitload) you were promoted to the next level, if you posted a moderate amount of times you were fine where you were, and if you were inactive for a prolonged period of time you were warned. If you were not active after that warning, you were given another warning, until the third infraction in which you would be demoted/booted. The uniform system worked a lot like that too. If you were caught out of uniform, you were warned a few times, then demoted.

Eventually down the line they became more reluctant to boot people from the hive due to a desperate need to keep their group from dying of inactivity.

From the day I joined their group, I was active. After checking the Z.A.P. records (Z.A.P. is another secret guild they have where they write down the recorded post counts and uniform infractions) it was clear my post count and ability to stay in uniform was what was keeping me being promoted. Eventually my loyalty and activity earned me a promotion to Raider, and kept me in close contact with the crew.

See it was the responsibility of the Raiders in the Hive to monitor their userbase: one Raider was given a lesser rank to watch-over (post counts, monitor their uniforms, check their post history, detect any signs of being a spy). I was in charge of managing the cluster of Drones at the time. We would send in our reports to the officers in charge.
I actually started posting graphs to monitor activity too, make everything nice and organized.

My hard work as a Raider eventually got me promoted to Officer... I believe that was from when JK was in charge of the Zurg Hive, when I sent him my Raider report.

More to come later.

Side Note: From day 1 in the Academy, I wanted to become overlord of the Zurg Hive. That was my primary objective, that was my only goal, and I was very vocal about it. Becoming an officer was a big deal for me.

Lol sorry about that.

The Hive has a large history of NPC chatlogs they're hoarding. Me and a group of friends started a drop-box to hold them all, but I'm not sure what happened to it. I never kept the records, but if either of you know Liz (aka Asu) or EM, you might be able to persuade them to lend you some. There was some drama that occurred in the Hive, and they made sure to have an entire database of their own before leaving the guild.

It's probably been so long since the event that if you guys asked, they'd just give them to you.

The hive at a point made these logs secret from ordinary users to view because of an incident with EM. I'll delve into that story at a later time, as I need time to sit in front of my computer to type out that long drawn-out tale.

The crew panel doesn't have anything interesting either. It's mostly just talks about users in the guild or projects they'd like to do in the future (like event threads and such). If Zi is reading this, yes it's pretty much E CORP's secret place, but with a Zurg face.

The uniforms consisted of the following:

-You had to have Zurg skin, Grombie skin, or a cybernetic attachment.
-You had to have a weapon. There was a large list of weapon-items. If your weapon wasn't on the list, it didn't count.
-You had to have a pin, to determine your rank at a glance, of course. Each rank had a rank specific pin. Different colored skull-pins until you reached officer rank. Then they became things like G Pins and Egyptian golden beetle pins. Overlord had to always wear a golden crown... it was universally acceptable to wear golden laurels.

LOL I doubt it. It would be pretty interesting, though. The only NPC we ever had was 07, and his involvement was fairly limited. I also have a sneaking suspicion that he only started talking to us out of pity, but that's another story. >_>

Sounds pretty much like the GiB crew forum. neutral It's super-boring. xd

Huh, I never knew there was a uniform. I remember about the skull pins, but that's about it. Not nearly as distinctive as our uniforms. xd

Our uniforms number one!

We weren't required to wear ours at all times, thank god.

The overlords who have been in the hive are as follows:

"Liz" -> "Pants" -> "JK" -> "Greenwerewolflady" -> "Amy Pond"

There was also a series of badges you could earn to place on your membership card. You earned them through doing very specific and amazing stunts in the hive that showed off your loyalty. By the time I joined, they didn't really pass out badges anymore. Seems like that just died off.

Also remember the logs I mentioned?
One time there was an incident with a user, he started posting towns logs in another guild, logs he saved and logs he himself gathered from towns. Hive got mods involved to get rid of them, under the principle that "the logs belonged to them" and thus couldn't be shared with the public.

They have their own Skype group too, which they actively post in. A big reason why the guild doesn't get as much love as it used to is because of that very chat. The crew also has their own skype group, which they do meetings in.
