The Latin club had a Christmas party with the French club, our archrival. It's a tradition to remind everyone not to take the rivalry too seriously.

Anyways, I did my own translation of one of my favorite carols, "Angels from the Realm of Glory."

So what songs do you sing during Christmas/Saturnalia/Hannukkah/et al?

Angeli regno gloriae
Volate insuper orbe
Vos canens fabulam mundi
Nunc evocate partum Christi

REFRAIN:
Veniteque coliteque
Colite regem omnis

Pastores arvis quietis
Spectantes greges nocte
Deus nobiscum habitat
Longe novus lux fulget

Sapientes calate sensae
Clara spectacula lucent
Vidistis natale astrum
Poscite gloriam regni

Sacerdotes ante aras
Servatis c** speque metu
derepente defluens
apparebit in delubrum

Facinores paenitentes
confessi sceleres estis
Iustitia nunc revocat
Clementia vellet vincla

c** infante videamus
Ascendet solium patri
Legite omnibus illi
Omnis genua ponent

Munde connecti laudante
Patrem filium spiritum
voces extollentes semper
Trinitati in Unitas

I love Veni, Veni Emanuel, and Adeste Fideles. My favourite is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and I'd love to translate it.

Rap is awful no matter what the language is , I think it destroys how beautiful the language is (i've heard french and Italian rap both made the languages sound awful) ( my opinion. don't come after me for this)

I agree on that, but the thing with this rap is that it tells a lot about christmas. How it's bound up on old traditions, how everything every year is the same because we dont want to ruin the traditions. It's a few years old, but it gets played on the radio every year. I love it because it tells the truth about christmas. How materialistic it has become, how we dont want to ruin the old traditions, but we actualy are.

There's a a couple of sentences that's stuck in my head: "Traditions bundne folk, i traditionernes land" which basicly means "People who are bound by traditions, in the land of traditions"
"Der er intet lavet om siden sidste år" = "Nothing has changed since last year" which is very much true in this country.

At least those aren't tonal languages. I've heard worse.

Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese rap aren't so bad, but Vietnamese rap bounces up and down, up and down! gonk

I generally think that too, but Epik High (korean) is awesome. (My favorite song is One, for the record!)

Then, it's pretty much... as not-rap like as rap can get. I didn't even know it was rap at first. o__O;;;

I used to listen to this German chorus sing traditional Christmas songs. It was on a cassette, old school. cool But I'm not sure where it is now... I really liked it too. sad
