Nine Miles is probably one of the most prominent side-project to the pillows fan community, Nine Miles is a one-man reggae project led by Manabe (真鍋吉明). The name comes from the town in Jamaica where Bob Marley grew up. Manabe nearly all of the work, including playing the intrusments and sounds mixing. His influence comes from the reggae legend, Bob Marley. Nine Miles has two full-length albums and is featured on an omnibus album.
Solomonic Polar Bear - Released in 2001.
Return of the Polar Bear - Released in 2003.
Go! Delicious! Go! - Released in 2005 which contained one Nine Miles song.
the pillows have also covered two songs by Nine Miles, HEART IS THERE which was featured on the Nonfiction single. It is recently rumoured that Manabe is in the final stages of his third album.

I always thought it would be sweet if the pillows did a Green Day cover. But that's just me.
