Well I've been in marching band for 4 years, but I want to try out for winterguard. Honestly I haven't touched a flag until this morning, and the try outs are in basically a day.
Any way I can miraculously get better? Cuz we're having two guards this year because so many of them suck that they wanted to separate them from the people that actually try.
According to the guard leaders I'm doing pretty well, cuz I figured out two diff. spins (both directions) as well as [almost] a single toss within about 30~45 mins. Just wondering, is that good progress in general, or just for our school? sweatdrop

You could as a Guard member or one of the coaches to help teach you the basics. And ask them for anything else you might need to know for winterguard. Winterguard is ALOT different than field show. People tend to take it more seriously than field show. Why? Because you're closer to the judges. And I PROMISE they CAN see ever unpointed toe. But ask them for basics, such as drop spins, double time, butterflys, pops, tosses (vertical & horizontal, possibly even the 45). They'll tell you what they think you need to know. My first Winterguard we had to AT LEAST have a perfect double 1/2 and be perfecting our 360. Good luck and do your best!

You'll do just fine. I was a little slower in learning Guard back when I first joined. Which was two years ago... But, unless you practice for 24 hours straight with a seasoned veteran, I don't think there's a miraculous way to get better on that amount of time. You'll get the more complex stuff eventually, I promise. ^^
