So I've been reading this uber comic, and I was thinking... What's LARPing like? I nearly got to join one when I was young, D&D based weekend in a forest.. But we didn't have enough money. (Story of my life..)

So, yeah... Anyone here been to a LARP? Taken part? Go to one regularly?

What's it like~?

Yes. I'm actually a part of Amtgard (which is based across the nation, from what I've heard), Crystal Groves chapter in Maryland.

It's pretty fun. Fairly large group (fifty to sixty people minimum, maybe less) and we roleplay about once a month. Otherwise, it's all about the combat, every Sunday around noon till dusk. The rules on weapons are pretty strict but are meant to keep people from hurting each other. We have different classes with different abilities, and people level up by simply spending time playing as their class over a certain number of days. My personal favorites are Barbarian and Monk, mainly because of Barbarian's berserk on last live (or last few lives, depending on level) and the Monk's ability to do Missile Block with a weapon (otherwise the weapon would be destroyed).

But yeah, it's a fun place. People dress up (recently got myself a tunic and a monk robe, for barbarian and monk, respectively) and bring their own weapons. We have persona names, Houses, Battle Companies, etc. Really fun.

Do you need to pay to join in with them? Tell me more~

I miss gaming. I can't even play computer games anymore 'cause I blew my PC up and this laptop is really low-spec. crying

However, I was considering trying to get together with a bunch of D&D players or something... I haven't done that since secondary school, though. sweatdrop

Uhh... only if you wanna run for offices within Amtgard. The only thing we have to pay for is the insurance policy, which, obviously, isn't cheap, but somehow they make due with what they get.

Actually, I just got back from it not too long ago (possibly a half an hour). I'm bushed, but playing a zombie is FUN.

Larping huh? Now this is new compared to what I do know.

Please enlighten me. Tell me more on this Larping and what it does. You spiked up my curiousity now.

Doesn't really do much except give you a nice safe way to vent your anger and meet new, cool people (cool by my standards, at least). Some people there are old enough to be my dad (sometimes even grandpa!). eek

But that's cool.

The whole system sounds complicated (I'd elaborate but I don't feel like doing so this early in the morning) but once you get used to it, it makes for an interesting fight. It just sucks that after awhile, wizards and scouts/archers just become way too overpowered for their own good. sweatdrop

I wanna LARP!

It stands for Live Action Roleplay, Syutaka. It's where a bunch of people get together and act out a roleplay, like D&D, but in real life. Often in a forest or park.

VtM is a popular one, I've heard, as it can be played with little to no costuming in the midst of a city. 3nodding

Man, I don't think there's a LARP within a hundred mile radius of where I live.. which is kinda sad.. cause it would be awsome if there was one.. I would totally be there biggrin
