Dove Ad

What do ya'll think of it? And what about your perception of beauty? Mine sees into the person, not at what their wearing.

The fat girl side of me says, that that advert speaks the truth and all should bow down to appreciating all the fat women in the world. Note, this is also the man raging, angry and Feminist-Nazi fat girl side.

The saner side of me believes that this a rather good attempt at creating awareness of our eternal screwing-ourselves-up-the-a** manoveurs and trying to persuade the world with great futility to try and change our perceptions. Publically, in the mass media that is. There have already been people advocating the same sort of message, one being Baz Luhrman himself in his dialogue-song "Sunscreen", i.e. "Don't read beauty magazines because they will only make you feel ugly". On an emotional level the advert did get to me mostly based on the lesser intense side of the fat girl as well as never been told that I was beautiful in my life before sincerely - not by some obsessive stalkers.

My perception of beauty delves into the soul and personality of the person along with the way in which a person presents him or herself...his and her actions creating a unique sense of him or herself. Beauty is looking at a friend you know, having a wonderful time and on the other hand, seeing the same friend cry with her whole heart. It sounds sick, but people are essentially unique and behave in their own special way even when sad. Beauty is also watching a seemingly perfect sunset. Beauty is childbirth. Beauty is the perfect cup of coffee. As the completely cliche saying goes, beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

Wow, funny thing is I wrote a whole blog o'doom on that when a friend showed me then I proceeded to show the wrold so funny how it ends up here. It is fabulose how we all think alike! yay!1

Anywho, now I always knew about this horrible conspircey against women in the whole film and music industery ever since I was say in jr. high thats when i basicly said '******** you, ******** you, your cool, ******** you, i'm out!" lol yea, those exact words....in a sense! anywho, jr. high is when i had the whole transition, what do i want to be, and do and look like? I went to san Fransisco with my mom and we figured it out together. I don't wear make-up, my mom does make-up for modles in san fran for like...vouge and other crazy magazines so, it was a shock that her dear oldest daughter didn't know how to apply make-up but much rathr enjoyed drawing and reading manga, and other books. She accpeted that side of me luckly, as well did my step mom, and daddy yay!!

Anywho I am rambling about things people don't care about. I am an artist! I like the human body as it is, I especially like bigger people, they have so much more to them, so much more shape besides breast and hips. they have structure that is so amazing that I wish everyone had a litle more then 100lbs on them. Now I am a small person, and thin, so people often say 'well yea your not fat' that is when i turn to them look them square in the eye and say

"You only have one body for your whole life, instead of trying to make it look like what everyone wants, why don't you enjoy it, embrace it and do what the ******** youw ant. No matter what, someone will love you, and your friends and family will care!" people seem to agree with me there! soooo....yea I feel beauty is everywhere, even in fake lips, and new breast, people still are beautiful, because we all have our childhood scars from scrapping a knee, or bumps on our head from falling off the swings when everyone thought jumping off of them was sooo cool!! we all have our idea of beauty and cloths, and we all want to look our best. Beauty is pretty much everyone, even if you have fake tits!

So yea I have multi-colored dread extensions from time to time, or dye my hair weird colors, or leave it natural, my noise is pierced I have three tattoos, and more piercines I wont mention, that is still me trying to alter my self to look beautiful to me. It is the same thing as wearing make-up and getting your nose done.

So, what isn't beauty should be the question????

I have the same sort of problem. Nobody sincerely calls me pretty. At most I hear them say I'm pretty when I used to mention how I thought I was ugly and I still think that. ((Goddamned you, birth defects and the emotional scarring that ensued from bullying!)) I just don't mention it anymore because of the lack of sincerity. Even when people are being sincere, I don't believe them.

Somehow, not being considered beautiful has given me more confidence, though. Because come on, how many people would dress as a pirate wench and go to high school when nobody else is doing the same? ((It made me feel sexy >w>
That ad makes me happy! Because it's true. Everyone in every ad nowadays is digitally enhanced in some way. So there's no way that we can consider them truly pretty. However, everyone seems to base their ideals of beauty on them. Sadly, it is dishonest and can be damaging to those of us who are a little more below average than everyone else in some way. It's awesome how Dove is trying to open our eyes a little more.

Again, I'm just here repeating everyone else's opinions... Eh, whatever. Just shows I'm in agreement.

((And to respond to Sesquipidalopobia, my mom used to be a bigtime consultant for Mary Kaye makeup so she finds it odd when I don't wear makup, but hey, at least she knows the same makeup techniques as trained makeover professionals at Gene Juarez (she got a makeover at Gene Juarez once, even, and said that they didn't do anything very differently from what she usually does, just chose slightly more vibrant colors) , so I can trust her to do my makeup for Homecoming and stuff. Anyway, back on subject!))
