Once the memberlist is cleaned out, we need to open up recruitment again. Now that the excitement of the event has died down, we're going to lose a lot of formerly active agents. If we don't want the GIB to die, we'll have to bring in some new blood.
I figure we should target two groups of people: Plot Freaks and RPers, since that is how our guild is (will be) divided.
However, we can't let just anyone in (as we learned already).
So, we need some kind of screening process. If it were left up to me, I'd probably just B.S. the application questions as an excuse to get them to type a good amount, and see if they seem literate, intelligent, and interested. XP
What do you guys think the application proccess should be like?

Actually your suggestion isn't a bad idea. Given the attention span of most users here, I'd say a drawn out application process would be prime.
If they're interested in roleplay, perhaps we could ask for a snippet of their skills. If they want to help out in field research, maybe we ask for a little insight as to what they've noticed/theorized on.
After all, if they're here to help or add to a storyline, they ought to know the plot really well, eh?
I'd say make it a little more user specific. A 'test' depending on what they're here for.

I agree with Agent Z. That sounds like a good way to test people to see if they're really committed.

I agree with Agent Z. I feel it needs to be a more strict screening process. For example, there would be a thread listing all the crew members, and to join, you'd have to send a form to one of the crew members answering some questions. Here's a rough example of some things that could be asked...
Userame: Agent Name: Why do you want to join G.I.B.? What can you do for the G.I.B.? When approached by a someone who is disrespectful to G.I.B. in Towns or the forums, how do you react? If you were asked what the purpose of the G.I.B. is, what would you say? Will you follow the rules of the G.I.B. and post often in the guild, knowing you may be removed if you disobey? What is the G.I.B.'s position with the aliens? Do you agree to at least try to be literate? If you plan on role-playing, please post a sample of your writing below. How much time can you devote to G.I.B.? How do you plan on getting information about plots and storylines for the G.I.B.? Are you willing to lay down your life for the protection of Gaia? Are you willing to shell out the gold for the uniform?
And if they answer according to standards, invite them to the guild, after running a background check through thier posts they've made in the general forums.

I guess I'll just fourth/fifth the application idea. I like the questions, but I wonder if they are too extensive? I'd be afraid of turning away otherwise good members who are daunted by a long application. Maybe we could pare it down slightly, since a background check should confirm whether they are literate and if they tend to flame people.

Yeah, those are just some examples, we wouldn't have to use them all... I'd be pretty intimidated if I were joining and saw that, haha. sweatdrop

I agree. While we want people that REALLY want in, we don't want to make applying an ordeal, or else we'll wither and die.
Actually, that's a good point: We could probably find out most of what we need to know about them by checking their post history. blaugh
Some questions that I think would be useful:
1. What is the GIB to you, and why do you want to join? If we get an answer like "o der cool i wunt 2 jone 2 kil alienz" then we know they're out. talk2hand But if we get something like "A cool guild that investigates the plot" or " a cool place to RP" and "Because I love investigating plot and coming up with conspiracy theories" and "Because I think that a GIB RP would be a lot of fun" then we know they're good to go.
2. What attracted you to the GIB: Our noteriety, our purpose (plot investigation and civilian protection), or the RP aspect?
That in general would give us a good feel of how well they'd fit.
And we could follow up with a question or two about what they have to offer in regards to the investigation or RP area.
I don't want us being elitist, though. That's not what the GIB is about.
Just make sure we don't get people whose idea of a good RP is "i setp owt of teh shadowz and kill all tha alienz with my lazorz."
All in all, I think 2-3 good questions and a quick post check should fulfil our needs.

Agreed. I think the background check will be a good indicator of who we should let in and who not to let in. So should we come up with the offical questions?

Sounds good to me, though when we ask people to join... Maybe we can split it up by the first letter.
That way one person doesn't get to crowded and if you get the wrong letter it shows they cant follow simple instructions and do we really want that in our guild? sweatdrop
(Does my idea make sense? I am afraid my mind is a little jumbled since I have had 5 huge tests this week. My last two are tomorrow yay.)

I believe we should give them a whole BUNCH of questions and if they reply "I'm not filling that out" or something like that they should not be let in but if they do fill it out. We have the info. ^^ But that's just me. sweatdrop

Here's a suggested application (based on the questions from Miss Conception): Username: Preferred Agent Name (if your name is already taken, we will select one for you if you are accepted): Why do you want to join the GiB? Will you be able to contribute time to the guild and behave in a manner representative of what the GiB stands for? Please provide a paragraph explaining what you can contribute to the GiB. orPleae provide a short RP example if you're interested in the GiB RP. We should then inform people that a background check of their postings will be conducted. Also, will recruitment be on a referral, "we find you" basis or are we going to open up for general applications?

Several one-word answers, and one lengthy response... Oh, and don't tell them about the background checks. XD They may be tempted to clean up their records, or join on a little-used mule. Anyway, what does everyone think about us using an application like this?
