The hawks weren't even coming up this high. Air was beginning to grow scarce at this altitude, but for someone as determined as he, it was a mere triviality. Up and up. He didn't know how long he'd been climbing this mountain, though his internal clock estimated about a couple hours. It was a leisurely pace, of course. There was no need to come running up the mountainside like some crazed idiot. Sure, it would have been a great anaerobic workout, and you could bet he could probably pull it off, but today he was in no hurry.

His housemates were idiots. Every single one of them. First there had been the pink male -no, he hadn't bothered to learn all their names- who had chatted to him good-naturedly at first. But then he just wouldn't leave the organization member alone. Xaldin didn't like to be doted on- he never had and he never would. This pink one was more of a mother than a male. Next there had been some silver-haired punk who didn't have the guts to show his full face... Well, he hadn't really been interested in doing any more than greeting him with a simple wave. Maybe he wasn't so bad, but at the moment it was just easier to lop them all into the category of idiocy. And the worse... The worse had been the nutcase with stitches. End of story. He just needed to get the hell out before he turned the inside of that house into a caged hurricane.

They'd be lucky if he ever went back, that was for sure. He could survive up in this mountain if he wanted to! Mumbling darkly to himself, Xaldin pulled himself away from his path up the mountain to a rocky ledge. Here he sat upon his haunches, braids whipping in whichever way the wind happened to blow. It was cold up this high, but this also failed to perturb Number Three. Perhaps, had he not been as violent and randomly brash as he was, he would have received the ice element instead of Vexen. Of course, he was still satisfied with he got- more than satisfied. Wind was probably the most unstoppable force next to earth, and where it might not be able to stop some things, it could sure as hell slow them down. Xaldin flexed his paws and muscles as he sat, making sure none of them were going to cramp up while he rested for the moment. A cramp up this high could be fatal.

The top of the mountain was most likely very cold up here. He could hear the wind howling with fury, could see how the nearly nonexistent plant life up here had been coated with a fine layer of frost, despite the bright sunlight. It was as though the warmth itself could not touch the top of this mountain. It made no difference to him; he could feel a faint chill, and nothing more. He certainly had no regrets about being made entirely from air. Oh, sure, he wasn't completely immune to feeling--but the wind could blow right through him, unable to batter against him until he had no choice but to give in.

The ghostly kitsu was sitting neatly, his many tails flicking from side to side. It was quiet up here, all alone, and Amon was grateful for the peace. I mean, it didn't really matter to him, either way. Whatever the situation, it would just breeze by him without any trouble at all. The air elemental twitched his ears as he turned his head, slowly surveying the horizon. It was an awfully nice view, after all. As for the thin air? Well, that wasn't a problem at all! He was made of the stuff, anyway...Pale eyes blinked curiously as Amon twisted his head--hey! There was someone down there!

His paws suddenly lifted from the ground, and the Kitsu was suspended in midair, hovering. He could float, but do little more than that. Amon moved quickly and without caution. In his mind, there was no reason that he would be attacked for simply taking a closer look. All four of his paws settled back on the ground, pressing firmly into the soil. There--now he was about level with the newcomer, though a respectful distance away. "Hoy!" He called lightly, practically invisible with the grey sky all around them. "I've certainly never seen anyone else come up this far without having problems." Amon remarked, settling back on his haunches.

His disgruntled thoughts were interrupted by a sound that barely seemed to survive in the wind. Some odd sort of call or something. Perhaps it was some sort of creature that live farther up on the mountain. Foreboding, violet eyes scoured the terrain for any signs of life, all of the braids on the back of his head whipping simultaneously about as he turned his head only. Who'd said that? Eventually, Xaldin found movement in the haze and homed onto it.

Another kitsusagi, it seemed. Splendid. Tanned ears folded themselves back a little, signaling his aggression. Never seen anyone come up this far? Well, he planned to go even father after he had a moment to relax his muscles for a moment. "And who are you?" The Whirlwind Lancer almost demanded, eyes narrowing with his impatience. It annoyed him that he couldn't make out the elemental completely, but not an issue worth getting up for yet.

Amon's ears pricked slightly at the unbridled hostility of the other's tone; Oh, had he sounded rude? "I'm sorry." He apologized good-naturedly, "It's been a long time since I've talked to anyone. I am Amon." Yes, once he had been big enough to go off on his own without getting lonely, Amon had escaped up to the top of the mountain, preferring the seclusion and the freedom that the vastness of the sky seemed to offer. "And who are you?"

He was politely curious, his ghostly form shimmering some as his tails tossed themselves about in the wind. How strange...he had never seen someone clothed like this particular kitsu. Sasuke, the one who had rescued him from the freezing properties of ice when he was trapped inside his egg, was the only other that Amon had seen wearing any article of clothing at all. And, by far, this kitsusagi was the biggest that Amon had ever seen...Such broad shoulders! Well, he would be polite, looking very much like some sort of demonic spirit that refused to pass on. Maybe he could accompany this one up to the very top of the mountain?

Oh, it was nothing Amon had done exactly. It was normal for Xaldin to be callous and somewhat hateful, but when fueled with his recent annoyance... Well, the elemental was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, wasn't he? His eyes didn't lose their harsh quality even as the other apologized, but did receive a rather rude snort. Damn right, you were sorry. He seemed to be rather disinterested in the other's name, even though it had been he who asked the question. At the question to his identity, he turned his head away from the other, seeming to be dismissive. "Nobody." He replied tartly.

It was rather hard to be mad at someone polite, he realized with not a little annoyance. Those broad shoulders rolled beneath the dark cloak, then hunched themselves in a grumpy sort of gesture. It was probably time to move on now, or risk stiffening from the chill. Xaldin might not have minded it mentally, but his body certainly didn't conform to everything he wanted. Easing his weight onto his forepaws, the wind-manipulator pushed himself to a stand, causing the cloak he was wearing to unbunch and swirl about his hind legs. He turned towards Amon, keeping his expression distinctly bland. "Do you come here often?" Was the question as he urged his muscles into action, taking long and purposeful strides forward.

Oh, so Xaldin was normally grumpy? Well, then it was a good thing he had run into Amon, of all people! The kitsu, like his element, allowed these things to breeze right past him, never dwelling on the past. If anything, Amon was enjoying himself, curious and amused by the newcomer. He had so much energy! Granted, it was violent, bristling energy, but even so. He tilted his head to the side, blinking at the strange response he received. "Nobody?" Well, that was silly. He had to be somebody...unless that was his actual name? Hm!

As 'Nobody' pushed himself to his feet, Amon was struck again by how very...big the other kitsusagi was. His ears twitched slightly with this realization, but he did not allow his eyes to wander. Staring was rude. 'Nobody' was drawing closer, and Amon offered a little shrug of his ghostly shoulders. "Down here? Sometimes. I live closer to the top of this mountain." Was the other getting into a better mood, then? That was good. Not that Amon minded when he was growly--it wasn't as though 'Nobody' had been growly at him. He'd just been growly in general, and that was quite all right.

Normally grumpy? Quite. If there was anything that could come easily to him, it was bitterness. Bitterness towards his peers, bitterness to the environment, even bitterness to himself. He was feeling it now, annoyed that he couldn't allow himself to brutalize this stranger without reason. In a way, he was reminded of the pink one with all his friendliness and good intentions, yet Amon was a little more laid back about it. It was... sickeningly pleasant. Casual. They weren't on casual terms yet, though. Xaldin was not easily won over.

He strode closer, his large head held level by a strong neck. Yes, he was quite large by normal kitsusagi standards and he didn't try to hide it. If Amon had gawked about it, he probably wouldn't have minded horribly, though he would have lost his slow-growing tolerance of him. He listened to the other's response, one brow slowly lifting. "You live here. At the very top?" Now that he was close, he could make out the outline of Amon better. He paused in his step to stare down at the other, then turned his head with a small grunt and continued. Beneath his coat, three lavender tails flicked themselves. Amon would follow or him or he wouldn't- Xaldin didn't plan on stopping again so soon. Not for something as trivial as socialization.

To be so bitter...Well, Amon could not, and would not be able to ever say that he understood the true meaning of bitterness. He had never been able to grasp the concept--after a momentary flash, it would often just drift over his head. Amon could never stay angry, nor could he hold grudges; they just seemed so mundane after a while. If one happened to dislike another, that was fine...but Amon felt as though it should be for a valid reason--not a simple spat that would be long forgotten after some time. But, then again, perhaps his seclusion had made him ignorant to such things...

Amon didn't bother to shift out of the other's way, to back up or appear edgy. In all honesty, he wasn't bothered by Nobody's aggressive presence, simply tilting his head up some to meet the other's gaze. "Yes." He did have to venture down occasionally for food, and such, but Amon enjoyed the comfort of the mountain. And perhaps he always would. Pushing himself to his feet, the ghostly kitsu slipped to Nobody's left side. He certainly didn't plan on trailing behind the bigger kitsusagi, nor was he going to race on ahead. They wouldn't be able to talk very well either way, now would they? "Have you come here before?" Amon had never seen anyone normal risk being this high up. After all, the lack of air made it hard to breathe...
