Lindsey Scranton goes to my school and is part of what we like to call "The God Squad." It's about Halloween. Personally, I've noticed a downward spiral in the past few years of this newspaper and have nothing against the actual paper--it's the idiots they let write their columns I can't stand. http://wildcat.wsc.edu/stater/October 25/Op Ed 4.htmlWayne Stater I'm not gonna lie: Spooky is cooky Lindsay Scranton I’m not a big fan of Halloween. Sure, I dressed up in costumes when I was a kid. I went trick-or-treating. I ate a lot of candy. However now, in my more adult life, I don’t believe in Halloween. I don’t like the irresponsible behavior that some people display with doing things such as smashing pumpkins or egging cars. I don’t support giving power to demonic forces. I wonder how people perceive Halloween. Do they see it as a reason to dress up? To overeat sugary candy substances? To drink alcohol at a themed party? To dabble in witchcraft-like behavior? What is the motivation for Halloween? Is it just a popular holiday used to make money? Is it just a filler of shelf space before all stores are commandeered by Christmas decorations? I don’t appreciate the underlying evil of the holiday. Perhaps some of you aren’t even aware of the evil. So, in response to it, I shall offer alternatives. Instead of decorating my door with Halloween decor, perhaps I’ll put Jesus on it. On Halloween night, I’m going to a Christian concert in Norfolk. The band Superchick is the headliner. Maybe I’ll even eat a little healthier that day. I’ll pray against the powers of darkness that will be especially active that night. There are things to do besides celebrating Halloween. Check them out.

There's nothing evil about costumes and candy. That's all Halloween is about.
In that respect, from a Christian point of view, Halloween is much better than Christmas or Easter because people complete ignore Jesus in favour of Santa-worship and chocolate obsession.

Check them out. This person is well... ignorant. Halloween is a derivitive of a few thigs, first off the catholic's, yes i said catholic's, Feast of all Saints, celebrated on Nov. 1 where families would feast to rejoice the saints. Then Mexico derived 'The Day of the dead' from that. Familys would go out to their deceased relatives garves, and feast and have a good time. At midnight it was beleived that the spirits of the dead came to visit there families. You get the jist. American Halloween is based off this, and is simply a night where you dress up like a 'spirit' (though it has branched from there) and visit people to receive treats. It is a simple idea, and this person is a fool.

LOL, I give her credit for having the scariest decoration. There's nothing creepier than a man on a torturing device on your door to celebrate Halloween!

I think I may have just died a little inside. neutral .
That is ridiculous. I probably just sat for like 5 minutes wondering how that girl could possibly believe that. She is going to put Jesus on her door? Well that would definately keep me away for her house O.o
I consider myself to be pretty tolerant of religion to an extent. This was way past mey extent.

What a moron... I mean look where the very word halloween came from: All Hallows Eve! It's a holy evening before All Saints day which is in turn before all Souls day! If anything it was meant to chase evil spirits away by being scarier than they are and making noise! Jeeze, it was never meant as something EVIL... I'm glad I don't go to your school I would hit her upside the head and say "No" hopefully it would knock some sense into her

It's funny how she says Halloween is a popular holiday to make money. When ******** Christmas racks in more money in gifts than all the other holidays put together! And the tradition of giving gifts and Christmas itself is pagan in the first place! ******** her fat a**. Hypocrite.

ManateeMan The date and traditions are pagan yes, but certainly not the reason it's celebrated It was celebrated long before christianity came about, and will be celebrated long after it's gone. Most of the traditions are from pre-christian days. It is now a mostly secular holiday, which I celebrate. And my reasons are nothing to do with religion. Nor are the reasons of more of the religious people I know.
