missgothiclolita why do i see some many 怖い things in japan??????? horror is part of japanese culture. some old ghost stroies turned into movies are scarier than modern day things. also, japanese has enough types of ghosts and demons to fill encycolpedias, which makes some very interesting cultural things. (i suggest if you are light hearted, never go in a japanese haunted house, they are not as ufn as the ones in north america, they are scarier.)

eek oh yeah...Japanese horror movies are the best!!
They are really scary...they fulfill the sole duty of horror movies---to frighten us! (Sadako is like a superstar now! xd )
Not like American or Filipino horror movies...not so scary, you know.

Why do you think they copied original Japanese movies, to make things like "The Ring", "The Grudge", and "Dark Water"? Quote: J-Horror is a term used to refer to Japanese contributions to horror fiction in popular culture. Whereas American modern day horror films tend to rely heavily on special effects and a multitude of sub-genre (i.e. slashers, demons, extraterrestrials, etc.), J-horror tends to focus on psychological horror and tension building (anticipation), particularly involving ghosts and poltergeist. Certain popular J-Horror films are based on manga (e.g. Tomie, Uzumaki and Yogen). Many contain themes of folk religion such as: possession, exorcism, shamanism, precognition, and yōkai. Very true.

SuzuChan North American things are definatly not as scary. Not always. In Japan its a common misconception that you'll get shot if you go to America because we have the right to bear arms (2nd ammendment). That's scary... sweatdrop

lol wow im suprised people werent gonna come in here and say really stupid stuff!
well yea i was trying to be funny. well ill make sure i dont go to any scary houses i hate them so yea there is no way ill go in. yea i totally agree on the psychological horror and tension building. thats why i try not to watch j-horror films

Japanese horror films seem to be quite a lot deeper than American movie films. I'll have to thank the Japanese for the Ring. That movie still scares the crap out of me as well now as it did three years ago when I saw it the first time. I don't like being scared, but it's due to the Ring that I discovered the Scary Movie series. It's a really stupid series of movies, but they're hilarious!
But yeah. I was watching a show on 'Scariest Haunted Houses' with my friend the other night, and I was thinking to myself about how scary it would be if I went through them myself.
I wonder what Japan's scariest Haunted House is like.
The statement that the Japanese do things on a much larger scale really comes into play here.

oh hey! me too! xd i like to watch horror films and hear ghost stories...but I really get scared after... xd
before, i used to always go to this scary site....and during the night, i imagine the things i saw there xd
www.sfogs.com ..... i'm not sure if it's still there, i haven't checked it out for a long time. xd sweatdrop anyway, check it out....it's cool 3nodding it's a singaporean site, i think. but it's in english. 3nodding
