With NaNoWriMo just days away, it's plot crunch time. While writing though, the plot that seemed perfect now, will seem so dull/cheesy/lame/stupid/etc. later. So this is the First Aid Kit thread. Post if you need help with your NaNo novela(because you know that 50k words is so not a novel) and give help to those who need it.

If you are in need of help:
Please try to be as descrpitive as possible about your plot line. The more info, the more likely someone can help. Sometimes, while writing out your plot in greater detail, the answers are more likely to come to you.

If you plan to give help:
Please be nice. This isn't a critique of plot lines, but a helpful suggestion center with those who are stuck in their novela. Be as comprehensive as possible.

Let's be supportive of each other guys! You know we're all a little insane if we thought this would be a good idea.

Just a head's up to everyone: if you ever need names or ideas for naming characters, places, starships, etc., I will be available. I'm great at naming things (that's what everyone tells me anyway), so just tell me what the problem is, kay? Good luck over the month!

I need help naming a character! And currently my plot is this character, so...it's important. The thing is, the characer has 2 names already...kind of a split personality thing, but only for the sake of the novel, really. As a theatre critic, he is Bard Nichols. As a audience member, he is Edric Pitney. I'm looking for a name for his as an actor...I actually already found it, but forgot it, and I've given up trying to remember. So if anyone has some suggestion that are slightly off-beat and different from the other two, but sound like a stage name, let me know. Thanks!

And my plot needs a lot of help...sigh.

You could always combine the two names, like Edric Nichols, or Pitney Bard. I've always loved the name Sven, but I doubt you wanna go that way. ^_^ Vhan Collins is also a decent name.

Hehe. I have a good family friend named Sven. Only, he lives on the other side of the world, now. I do like the name, but I don't think it fits the character. And my point about the two names was that he needs three names...esentially, he is three character.

As for plot...I'm thinking of dropping the whole thing and starting from scratch, which is right about where I am now anyways. But I can't think of any better ideas (or other ideas as at) so...SIGH.

I'm no good at names, so I can't give you much help there.
Though Sven reminded me of Bjorn, another name I've always liked.

...and now I need a few suggestions. So I've got this slightly suspicious bald old man who likes to hang out in raver nightclubs and eat cheese danishes, and he has some kind of nefarious plot involving hiring the mercenary team Dangling Elk Inc. and their new recruits for multiple really odd, pointless jobs. The big question: WHY? gonk

If you want, I'll post some information about the characters he's hiring for all these and the "plot" so far... if you think that'll help. I'm thinking he needs to have some kind of connection with the two new recruits, who are both suffering from some kind of cannibalism-inducing disease for unknown reasons. But I'm not sure.

Sorry 'bout this. Captain Old Danish-Eating Man only became an "official" part of the plot last night, mainly due to a lack of anyone else to move the plot along. So now I don't know what to do with him.

Plot desperation:

I need help. It's almost day 4, and I have nothing. I spent my time tonight watching Ask the Dust, trying desperately to get inspiration. And I guess I did, but I still have no idea where to go with my plot, which becomes more and more twisted by the idea. If anyone could tell me how to fix it, what you think, or what I can do with it, I would be EVER so greatful.

My main character is both a theatre critic and an actor, under two different names and identities. My initial thought was that he would simply run in to trouble when he was forced to review himself on stage. This eventually turned into his being corrupt and reviewing his own shows in order to get himself good reviews. My most recent twist of this plot has been his having three different personalities, written individually by chapter; the fan, the performer, and the critic. My next thought on this was that when he began reviewing himself his identities sort of got mixed up and he went kind of insane. The fan part of him who always journied into the shows he was watching got stuck in a world from the show, etc. I couldn't never really find a beginning, middle, or end, just the basic idea. And after watching Ask the Dust, I sort of started a subplot/female lead story; Annalyle Martin is an actress whom Bard Nichols (the critic side of my MC) has been giving terrible reviews from the start of her career. They end up in show together which Bard must write a review for, in which he says lovely things about himself, and terrible things about the female lead, Annalye, in order to make himself look better. Basically, his critic side is a complete a** to Annalye, and his actor side falls in love with her. And maybe his fan side stalks her, or something, if I feel like going in that direction biggrin

So, I'm struggling here SO much. If anyone can help or comment, thank you, thank you, thank you-in advance.

Edit: More complications added; I asked some NaNo friends for advice, and they seemed most interested in the stalking part. Someone suggested the fan personality's stalking develope to the point of rape and accidental murder, which then reveals his disorder, etc. I've never written anything that violent beyond a few monster/ghost stories in Dark Literature. So I'm not really sure at all anymore...

I'm having trouble with how one of my characters acts.

Aurus has no grip of the English language, so he blurts words and hopes people get the idea of what he is trying to say. Like if he wants to be let back in he'll say "In again?" rather than "Can I come back in?" But he is perfectly able to think complicated thoughts. So there's like a big intelligence gap between the sentences for when he's thinking and the sentences when he's talking. I'm not precisely sure if this is a problem or not or if I just need to find some way to mention that he can't speak English... @_@ I'm terrible at remembering to explain things...

Captain Old Danish-Eating Man is a great name! Or just Captain Odem, ne? The connection with the two recruits could be cousins, that he's their uncle or grandpa... Oh! He could be their mother's step-father or step-uncle. That'd get you into some plot twists.

Quick question: Does the host personality know about the other two? In other words, does the original personality know he's a Split? If he does, than controlling his other two sides could cause for some interesting plot bunnies. If he doesn't know about them, having one stalk and/or kill Annayle would be dangerous, but also have a twist to the story- having the female lead die by "his" hands might cause him to realize or find out about his issues. Like a journey into his selves. ^_^

Okay, that wasn't really quick...

Kaxen: That's a pickle... you could have his thoughts in italics or something. Not quite sure about that one.

Haha. That's okay; the question/comment the better. Unfortunately, I've all but given up on NaNo after relizing that until...the 22nd of November I am at school until 10 pm. But I still plan to continue by novel, and possibly do a NaNoWriMoDecember, or something. I hope it's okay if I continue posting here, in any case.

To (try to) answer your questions: I came to the conclusion eventually that each personality really has to know about the other, and it can't really be completely seperated personality disorder, because my plot relies on the fact that he knows he is both an actor and a critic. However, I think everyone who was rooting for me to kill off Annalyle was thinking along the lines of each personality not knowing about the other...but I'm not really sure how that would work...

Okay, not an answer, so much as me asking more question/rambling. But thank you razz
