Deadside Dreams

PostPosted: Fri Oct 27, 2006 10:10 pm

Take a long walk through the graveyard
Give peaceful rest to those long dead
All those poor souls who died in vain
The ground still soft where blood ran red

Take a long walk through the graveyard
Read all the aged and crumbling stones
The blades of time have rent their bodies
Once flesh and blood, now dirt and bones

Take a long walk through the graveyard
And sit beneath the lynching tree
You’re never alone when you come here
Or sit a while and talk with me

Take a long walk through the graveyard
Through that lonely burial ground
The stones are aged and worn with time
And never again meant to be found

Take a long walk through the graveyard
Under grey and mournful skies
Find the loved one, now long gone
And give to them one last goodbye

Beautiful. Nice use of language and images. I admire your ability to use a consistent rhyme scheme, something I've never been able to do. Very thoughtful and reflective. I'm actually tempted to try and find a cemetary to walk through now; however, the time of year is holding me back. It is highly unlikely that you'd catch me anywhere near a graveyard this close to Halloween; I'd likely terrify myself and have to flee for my life, lest something try to cause me harm.

Keep writing. You have talent.

Thank you very much. This piece is actually very self-reflective. A good friend and I often go and sit in the town graveyard. It's tree-surrounded, and it's one of the cleanest, nicest kept places in Church Hill, and always devoid of people, so we like to go sit and chat, have a cig or two, then we usually walk to the park, which is just through a cornfield.

I'm glad you like it. I'm proud of this piece. If you like, I could link you to my DeviantART page. More of my work is there.
