Quote:
President Bush said the "sacred institution" of marriage between a man and a woman must be defended against what he called activist court rulings.

Bush briefly brought up the topic, unprompted, while raising money here for a Republican congressional candidate, a day after the New Jersey Supreme Court decided that same-sex couples must be given the same rights as married people.

Doesn't this remind you all of when, smack dab in the middle of the war, he just randomly tried to ban gay marriage?

Quote:
"I believe marriage is a union between a man and a woman," he said. "I believe it's a sacred institution that is critical to the health of our society and the well-being of families, and it must be defended."

Sure, and the idea of gays getting marriage benefits has nothing to do with your bias, O Presidential one?

Quote:
Gay marriage is legal only in Massachusetts. Other states, including Vermont and California, have laws permitting civil unions or domestic partnerships that offer virtually all the benefits of gay marriage, except the name. New Jersey and some other states have domestic partnership laws that offer fewer marriage benefits.

Why is the name different if it's virtually the same as regular, heterosexual marriage?

Here's a better question: If marriage is so "sacred," why do 50% of all marriages end in divorce?

I hope those states at least don't ban civil unions!

That's just stupid. Bush can believe all he ******** wants. This country was not founded on Christianity. Our forefathers said so, and tried to keep religion out of the government. What Bush is doing, is basically dictating. He's a d**k-tater. And he's trying to take our minds off of what he's doing in the middle east, and what he's doing to our country.

He's blaming the GLBT community of putting hetero-marriage in jeopardy so the Christians, people with sticks up their asses will focus on us. While their focus is on us, our focus is on them because we're busy trying to keep the rights we should have already because well.. that's how our forefathers made it to be.

i kno! i don't get all this junk about "defending the sancity of marriage." it's like "dude-WTHPH?!!!" marriage isn't gonna lose it's "sanctity" because people are getting married. that makes NO SENSE. how is my marriage going to change YOUR life?? IT WON'T! And besides, even if it wuz gonna cause some big evil moral uprising, people aren't in any position to tell us we can't get married anyway. plenty of heterosexuals get married when theres plenty of reasons why they shouldn't, and they still can. It's so on crack. I just can't even put into words how stupid i think this is. There's absolutely no logical reason we shouldn't be allowed to get married. It's just straight-up discrimination. That's all there is to it. *shrug* That's all.

How would our marriage affect them?

Wife: Oh my, Mr. and Mr. Blahblah just left for work, I can feel the EVIL seeping from the tax deductions they receive and the love they share! EVIL!!

Husband: I can't stand those two! They love each other! They care for each other! They stand for everything marriage stand for! How immoral!

?????

Or maybe:

Wife: Oh, look honey, those neighbors of ours are soo cute together!! The way they cuddle all the time, love each other unconditionally...Sigh, I remember when we were like that...F**k them, I'm getting a divorce, and blaming it on them for no reason!

Husband(soon to be ex-):Well, s**w you too, you b**ch! I want a divorce, and it's all those happily married gay people's fault!

...NOT THAT I'M BITTER! evil

Note: Sorry to all offended. I'm not trying to straight-bash, it's just that the above couple sued a gay couple for that reason. The straight couple (married for 4 months) sued the gay couple (Civil Unionized (or whatever) for 2 years) for "ruining their marriage"! I went to the trial, and the had no evidence or testimonials, save, "Their moral-less-ness (the word the wife used) ruined our happy marriage!"

Seriously...WTF!?

The gay couple (two REALLY nice guys I know (ones a banker, the others a manager at a real estate agency) were found GUILTY! They appealed and were found innocent, but I mean COME ON! evil evil evil scream scream scream gonk gonk gonk cry cry cry crying crying crying

Psh. I'm not offended. I think it's bullshit that a frivolous civil case like that was even allowed. It's obviously bullshit.

Sexual identity should be constitutionally protected.

Something tells me the founding fathers, while likely not as keen on the ideas of gay marriage as some of us, would probably not have as much of a radical stance against it.

Then again, no one mentioned homosexuality back then as far as I know, so I can't be sure.

I'm damn sure they'd disapprove of an amendment trying to ban civil liberties.

Because for something to be sacred it has to be religious and we all know that those don't make sense, so why should we expect this to?

There is a VERY obvious reason for the government to be against gay marriage, which actually has nothing to do with religion...

Taxes. If gays were suddenly allowed to marry, do you have ANY idea what the sudden influx of marriages would be? All those couples out there who have been waiting for AGES, finally get the chance to do what they've always wanted to do...

It'd be another damned bull rush. Only, this time, it wouldn't be against the bank.

I can't say that I necessarily agree with banning it, and it may SEEM that tax breaks may seem insignificant... But when you've got hundreds, if not thousands, of them occuring at once? That s**t adds up, and punches ANOTHER hole in a still-spiriling economy.

Just something to consider.

Okay, so, could you just get married in Massachussetts and THEN move to a different state and still be legally married?
