When you start to get into a panic because you relize that you haven't made any sales in the last two days.
When you fall asleep at night calculating the overall worth of all of your donation items and letters.
When while you are daydreaming in (insert boring class here) you see that a lot of the times you are thinking about making a killer buy or sale.
When you are contently hunting for good buys or sales and fill your day isn't complete without doing one.
When you start a journal or a logbook to see where your gold goes and how much you make overall.

When you log on one day and wonder "Where the heck did all this come from?" (Almost like waking up next to a strange person!)
You do things (homework, stupid dares, etc.) in real life to get Gaia gold.
These things involve your face covered in pudding, mud, or both.
Your assignments are covered in doodles of your wishlist items.
You almost never turn in these assignments because they're covered in doodles of your wishlist items.
You have auctioned yourself off at least once.
You bid on yourself. (Buying impulse! I swear I thought it was someone else!!)

You know you're an exchange whore when:
your gold count is lower than your age.
you constantly shiver from horrible sights found in the Vend.
you feel the need to politely inform people in the exchange of overpriced items using subliminal messaging if possible.
you instruct fellow whores on what to charge (for items, you silly!) to get the best profit in the best time.
aaaaaaaaaand that's all I can think of. sweatdrop
