A humanitarian misanthrope is a paradoxical title describing one
that dislikes or has a pessimistic attitude towards mankind, but forever
strives for its improvement. This might be explained as an individual who
views the current state of the human race with a cynical or pessimistic
eye, but who still sees intrinsic value in human life or whom sees hope for
improvement in the human condition; that is, that though the condition of
humanity is not at its ideal condition at present, that there is still a chance
for positive change. The Chinese philosopher Confucius could be described
as a humanitarian misanthrope. While Confucius criticized the failures of
his culture, he worked to improve both Chinese government and society.

humanitarian misanthrope... slightly difficult to spell, I'll have to memorize misantrhope, thats pretty cool, I didnt know that Confucious was a humanitarian misanthrope, well I didnt know that there was something known as that. I suppose Jesus would probably have been a humanitarian misanthrope as well.

I dont think I am a humanitarian misanthrope, I think 90% of the human specie are pathetic and stupid creatures, with weak-minds and shallow hearts. I dont work to make the world a better place, I work to bring some form of art to the world and I try not to make it a worst place.

I do hate around 30% of the Human population for thats about the percentage of foolish, shallow people. I do care for the others no matter there intelligence and I would help them, though it depends on whether they deserve it or not. I want the world to be a better place but I don't hate the whole or most of mankind....

This topic made me join the guild, very nice to see people who know about subjects such as this. Humanitarian misanthropist is probably the best way to describe me. Though more misanthrope than humanitarian, I still fight for a better world, eventhough I'd rather just destroy all the stupid and start over with a handfull of people a la noa's arc. But unless I grow super powers overnight, that won't be an option.

In my view, a better world is formed through the pursuit of knowledge, knowledge of the self, and of all other things. Knowledge and understanding should be the driving force. Not fear, not wealth, not the need to breed.

I don't often join guilds, this one caught my eye, I hope it'll turn out interesting. If it does, I'll make you a nice looking banner, 'cause no offense, but that thing on the front page made me giggle. ;P

I usually think the worst of people I don't really know, and I generally
distrust people. Every day as I visit any news site (from the corporate
to the alternative) I'm being given more and more reason to dislike
humanity and enjoy the company of my dog. But when s**t like the
Boxing Day Tsunami happens, I care a great deal. I don't like to see
people suffer like that. I want people to be happy and free from suffering,
I just don't like them very much, or trust them to find happiness in a way
that doesn't require the exploitation or suffering of other people.

There's a heavy emphasis in Buddhism on having compassion for other
beings (human and otherwise), but it doesn't say anything about having
to actually like those other beings (human or otherwise). So I feel okay.

As much as I hate to say it, this is very much like me. I hate the corruption that festers in human culture, but I strongly dislike that misanthropy even exists. So I guess you could say I hate my own hatred.

I am a humanitarian misanthrope. I see these little idiots bickering around me; and I want to help them learn. Learn empathy, and true morals. Not the way that our inferior school system does it. One-on-one, killer pounding in the head; teaching how the values work. SERIOUSLY WTF?!?! D:

I think I see a lot of perverted stupidity around the world, and I hear that people use reproduction for pleasure; and I wish to correct that; strive away from abusing it. All humans (except children) have rights. Yeah, I think that's kinda... O_o talk2hand

I would say this title fits me, though I do have more than one reason.

Though I do look at our past and present civilizations with disappointment (past ones being too restrictive, present ones being too chaotic), I don't believe in the VHEMT standard that the human race is better off eliminated. Cut, possibly, but not entinct.

Look at ecology. Take out one link in the ecosystem's food web and the entire system is thrown off. How would this be any different with humans, being at the top of the chain and basically keeping down every other species? Without humans the populations of these animals would skyrocket and leave unpredicted effects on the ecosystems.

I believe that if the human race was reduced to a much smaller number, with smaller communities such as in the past, perhaps there could be a better chance of there reaching an agreement within the community and peace being restored. I am reminded of a book I am currently reading titled Alas, Babylon. In this story the US population is drastically reduced and civilization all but destroyed in a day due to nuclear weapons. However, in the small town in which the story is set, the community soon regains peace.

Interesting term, I like it, and I think it applies to me. I do tend to despise humanity, and yet I do hate it when certain tragities occur.

Anyway, it would be interesting to try and find other seemingly non-sensical words that actually work well.

AndiIn any case, kudos to the discover of this most interesting word and paired concept.

As a teenager, this term fits me perfectly. I hate the little immature kids, and blind(not literally) that our society consists of. Or, people who just don't care about what's going on around them, it's them, or nothing.

But I'm a hypocrite, also. Oh well.
