Shinigami Academy 
Apart from the academy itself, in a separate building, lies the dormitories, where the students occupy their time sleeping, studying, and generally living when they aren't off training in some fashion. Each student has a separate dormitory room, and will remain living in such until they complete their training in the Academy.
The academy is attended for approximately six years before the Shinigami is considered 'prepared' though of course some students may or may not be held back, or advanced more quickly, based on their skill, and how well their abilities mature during their schooling. At the end of the academy, once all other training has been completed, each student is required to pass a series of tests that take an additional three years, beginning with basic swordsmanship, and academy study, ending with real combat exercises. After accomplishing this, they may then move forward into a squad, or Division, or remain as the 'generic' Shinigami who is simply assigned to squads as the need arises.

Ran herself was pacing around the outside of the classroom like a caged tiger, her body taunt, and her strides almost feline. She was angry, but not with anyone except herself. She'd always made sure she'd had that self control, never tried to strike at anyone unless they deserved it, or were a killer themselves.
"Dammit!" the girl's yell of frustration was loud, and she ran her fingers through her bangs, smoothing over the hair that was pulled into the taunt braid. Frustration reigned supreme over her emotions, and she wanted to beat on herself, but couldn't.
Maybe she needed a little time.. away? She could probably slip off into the mortal world. Besides, it would give her some much needed practice.

God, she even walks slow. Hito thought bitterly as they finally reached the main academy building. Through the winding hallways and finally they found a suitable, empty, room. "Yeah, there's plenty of room in here." Hito grinned maliciously and unsheathed her blades, holding them so the actual blade came from the bottom of her fist. "This is gonna be Fun!"
She rushed forward and striking out, recklessly in her excitement, with her left blade at Haruko's torso.

Haruko slowly drew the hilt of her zanpakto from her sash, the blade appearing as it passes over the sash. Haruko waited until the last moment, then whacked Hito's left blade away from her torso using her own offhand. Then she quickly thrust her blade towards Hito's chest.
"Too hasty..." she said quietly to Hito as she thrust.

There was nothing locking Hito within Haruko's range at this point so she simply Jumped back, dodging the other's attack. "tch."
She flipped around her daggers while changing her momentum back towards Haruko. She slashed first with her right blade followed quickly by her left.

She lunged weakly at Hito's chest, startled by Hawk-chans voice.

Hito easily knocked the thrust away from herself, c'mon, what was that! she frowned lightly Maybe I'll just toy with her until she gets serious... Hito swiped lightly at Haruko again with both blades.

She really is slow! she thought, sure, Hito herself hadn't gotten in any blows, but Haruko's attacks were so weak that Hito dodged each strike as easily as one dodges or bats away a paper ball. And now she attacked again slashing at Haruko's torso.

Haruko quickly swatted away Hito's left hand weapon, but her right hand dagger came down, hitting Haruko in the side. Haruko pushed Hito away from her and took a few steps back, then touched her hand to her side. She brought it back up to her face and saw the blood. Suddenly she put her hand at her side and looked down at the floor, as if she had given up. Suddenly she looked straight at Hito, a twisted look on her face. Her normally golden eyes now looked almost red as Haruko lept forward, bringing her zanpakto down towards Hito's left shoulder.

Hito felt the blade sink into her skin a bit. Dammit! I got cocky. She reasoned, but honestly she hadn't expected the sudden change in Haruko's demeanor. What happened to that easy-to-tears wimp? Well, whatever had happened it was just fine. Hito grinned maliciously, taking her stance again. Here's where the real fun starts.
Hito dashed forward and moved to her right slashing at Haruko as she went by. Blood flowed out of the gash in her left shoulder, causing her to wince as she made the attack.

Almost as if she knew the attack was coming before Hito did, Haruko jumped up to avoid the attack. She landed lightly on Hito's injured shoulder, and swung her sword down powerfully at the other one.
