He'll like as not treat any situation like it's a burden than anything else. As well, he is mulishly stubborn, and pretty self centered. Chen Shing has redeeming qualities though- once you're his friend, he's fiercely loyal in his own way. However, since Chen considers himself a traveling merchant, if he believes that you have no particular attachment to something, or might not care if that something got lost somehow, you might find it in the hands of the nearest person willing to pay for it.
When he is selling things, his personality and behaviors shift themselves to be more friendly, cheerful, and flattering. After all, those are good qualities and tools for a merchant to use. This often leads his very few friends to jokingly accuse him of having a double.APPEARANCE .. BENDING His level of training and skill make him a mediocre bender with the potential to reach slightly above average at best, if he worked hard. However, he usually prefers not to bend if he doesn't have to.LIKES - making a sale

FATHER (CHAO) A hearty and somewhat pudgy man, Chao is the head of Chen Shing's family, and something of a goof, though a shrewd businessman when he wants to be. He wholeheartedly supports his son in his journey, thinking the trip a wonderful chance for Chen to hone his merchanting skills. He hopes also that Chen will come to his senses and learn earthbending like his sisters did.MOTHER (YU LAN) Yu Lan is, in contrast to her husband, a short, slim woman. She manages the money for their shop, and is grooming Mei to take her place when she decides that she is ready to step down. Yu Lan also supports Chen Shing in his journey and like Chao, hopes that he will decide to improve his earthbending while he is gone, perhaps more strongly than Chao does.LAN Eldest sister. Lan's talents lie in the direction of accounting. She is currently working for her parents in their shop, and sports a rather large crush on one of the boys in their village- something her siblings never lose a chance to tease her for. Lan is the 'second mother' of the children, keeping them in line even when Yu Lan and Chao are not around- something that her siblings also never lose a chance to tease her about. Her nickname is 'Boss'.MEI Second sister. Mei shows an unusual aptitude for the family business, and is currently in the process of being groomed as manager. She is an excellent salesperson, has average looks, and a keen ability to haggle. Chen is the closest with Mei, and developed his affinity for merchanting from a combination of her and his parents. JU Younger sister. Ju's interest is mainly in the home, keeping it almost fanatically clean and berates Chen the minute he steps inside with dust on his feet. Ju is the most spoiled of the children, and is very used to getting her way.

WHISPER A nice enough kid, I guess. She's never seen an earthbender before me! She seemed to really want that doll I showed her the other day- it's weird. None of the other girls who've seen it have really wanted it, they tend to go for the jewelry. Hm.
Update I met Whisper again, and she wanted the doll worse than before, I think. What the hell.. I gave it to her on the flimsy agreement that she give me some good PR. I'm getting soft.STATUS Friend
