Do you know any cool urban myths relating to playing instruments? Are they true?
I once made some passing comment to my band director about trumpets and 'blowing your brains out/ haemorraging'. She later passed on an article about James Morrisen having to be taken to hospital because of internal bleeding within his skull which was caused by a massive trumpet solo he played during a rock concert. The rock band though it was a great idea to sticky tape a microphone into the bell of his trumpet. He initially liked the idea too.

whoa! lol i don't any any myths really. my bro told me that once, when a guy was doing a trumpet solo, he passed out. lol

my 6th grade band teacher told us of a kid who left the reed on his sax for so long, that there were little maggots or something that looked like rice in his mouthpiece. i didn't believe it, but when i had left mine on for a long time once, i had some white stuff in mine. it was pretty gross, i now clean it regularly

Two involving the trombone... The one where the trombonist puts a firework in his bell and it blew out at the end of the 1812 overture and it knocked over the conductor.
The other one is where he let go of his slide and it went forward too fast and it hit someone in the neck and broke it.

not a myth just funny story. bd had a student that literally left her flute out, don't remember why. next time that she finally brought it to school this huge roach crawled out.
i've heard of the trombone fireworks one. if you've heard of the show "mythbusters" they tested it, and i don't remember waht happen but the trombone wasn't even dented from the tests. was cool.

but it was still fun to watch them tear apart a trombone!

In middle school my bd told us a story about a girl who didn't clean her oboe out and like weeks later it wouldn't so they stuck something through it and green stuff fell out.

I read one story in my local newspaper about a kid who bought a sax at a garage sale.
He contracted a disease from the mouthpiece and lost all of his teeth. Obviously he didn't clean it. D:
The story was later disproven though.
