Well, discuss your feelings on the way Funimation and Geneon do their dubbings biggrin
So far, I think I've seen most of the things Funimation has put out. I'm very disappointed. First off, the movies/specials themselves just aren't very good (One was good for the fist hour or so and then turned into the worst crap). Their dub's awful, and they pronoune Lupin Loo-Pin, Jigen Jih-gin, and Goemon pretty much every way except the right one (One of them pronounced Kikyo wrong too). But, I'm not too surprised cause Funimation seems to mess up the animes they put out (they REALLY messed up on their Conan releases).
I'm happy with Geneon! 3nodding
The dub is good (ALOT better then any other dub I've seen for Lupin), the "americanized" pop culture references don't bother me too much, since most of them are talking about what the original talked about anyway, MOST. I think all they've dubbed (or still are dubbing) are the 2nd series and the Mamo movie, the Mamo movie being my favorite Lupin movie (the good dub helps too 3nodding ), and the 2nd series of course awesome (I haven't seen the others though crying ). So Geneon's the winner for me.

Ah, one of my favorite ranting topics.
FUNi seems to ruin everything they touch, though they do get brwonie points, from myself only, that I can watch their Lupin dubs with my younger sisters.
I have to pre-screen all Geneon dubs, which is a shame because I think they're better.
Geneon is funnier, but if they dubbed Cagliostro I'd be scared a wee bit.
I don't think they'd ruin it, but I do think that I wouldn't be able to show this otherwise "fine-for-kiddies" movie to kiddies.
Therefore, I like it the FUNimation hasn't stooped to the all too used tatic of profanity because some people find it hillairous. The Japanese versions are pretty clean, so adding extra swearing curtails my enjoyment, as I dislike it entirely.
FUNimation, nothless, gets everything else wrong. They would probably do better to just sell it Japanese!
(Actually, that's untrue. If they didn't have a dub, who would I mercilessly make fun of when I'm bored?)
Voices, pronuciation, even little things like Jigen calling Lupin "Boss" really irk me.
As for the actual movies, one theroy is that they probably have to buy the bad ones before they have access to any good ones.
Some of the specials they have out are good, so sometimes it being awful is totally their fault.
(Fujiko's Unlucky Days comes to mind.)
Another thing:
Why do they stupidly change the tiles of the movies?
Fujiko's Unlucky Days is much better sounding than The Columbus File.
Walther P-38 should not have been changed to Island of Assassins.
And, when the two other titles for Nostradamus was
"To Hell with Nostradamus" and "Die! Nostradamus", why is the American title "Farwell to Nostradamus"?
They lost the feeling of the title completely.
(BUt I should stop for now. There is too much to be said about them.)

Ah! I completely forgot about Jigen calling Lupin boss, that's so out-of-character! In Fujiko's Unlucky Days as well.. That's the biggest problem, I can watch it with subs but they're so out-of-character in the ones I've seen.. Jigen thinks of Lupin as his PARTNER, his equal, I mean duh who bails Lupin out when he's gotten himself into trouble? He'd be dead without Jigen&Goemon, when I was REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY into Lupin, that annoyed the heck out of me.. Yeah easy fix, don't watch em but gonk
I need my Lupin! gonk
(Don't ask why I get so worked up over this stuff, I usually don't care 3nodding )

Only good thing about FUNimation is they put out Lupin movies I would probably had never seen otherwise. The bad thing is I'm paying $25 to watch a subtitled version.
To put it bluntly, FUNimation is crap. 3nodding
Geneon is pretty good. I don't really mind the swearing, as I pretty much grew up around it so it's just sort of normal. Or something. I don't find it funny, either. I'm still trying to understand how swearing equals funny to some people. confused
With Cagliostro I found some anime forum topic funny about people complaining that in the english version they swore twice and how it wasn't necesarry and such. I do admit it seemed out of place, but whatever. It was still a good movie. Plus under Lupin's circumstances, maybe you would swear.
I still like Richard Epcar's "A company down in Texas..." thing. xd See? It's so bad he couldn't even say their name. That or he hates it so much he didn't want to.

Geneon beats Funimation hands down, I have several of these "movies" that they've put out over the years, and I've wanted to give them back to Amazon or where ever I bought them from.
Plus I have investments with the Geneon Corporation, so that's what I like best about them.

In fact, we should now just call it That Company Down in Texas, or TCDT for short. Then, we should burn them down! (And steal the rights to the movies and give it to Geneon.) I don't think Richard Epcar did like them, considering he said he was upset that someone else was playing Jigen. And we all know that TCDT's Jigen is awful...

FUNi's Zenigata sounds.....Awful, to say the least. He must have some dirt on the producers to get him a job.
Fujiko sounds like she'll beat you up if you don't get her what she wants. Oh! and Goemon sounds like he has a sickness, like a sore throat. And who wants to hear LOO-pin and JIG-en and go-EE-min?

Yeah, Cagliostro's swearing did seem out of place, sounded to me they added in a few cuss words to be badass or something cause otherwise it's a kids movie.. But then again I don't like Cagliostro so oh well.
But, that's not Funimation, well at least not the version I saw.
I'm really glad I never bougth the Funimation Lupins, they're out of character in the ones I've seen, I only likes one movie (I think it was Dead or Alive).

We can use the old stand-by of loading FUNimations building with explosives and then on the detonation device place a large label on it stating "Press here for world peace" and then have some hippie press it and blow it up. FUNimation blown up, hippie arrested, problem solved, we all go home happy. 3nodding Or some of us do.
I bought some of the FUNi movies, but I never listen to the dubs. But there are a few that I like and can watch over and over. And yeah, their Zenigata is freaking awful. gonk

You know, Twonk. That might be a good idea to fix the problem of Conan. One of my other favorite anime is Detective Conan/Case Closed, FUNimation has it, and they not only changed the names, but while the German dub's in the 300's(Or, so I've heard), we're at 80.. Been that way for a LONG time too. And now they're re-releasing all the conna DVDs at freaking 29 bucks each. But, if FUNimation went byebye, another company, like Geneon, could buy it 3nodding

YAY! 3nodding The weirdest thing about Jigen calling Lupin boss is that, it's a term of endearment. Who calls thier friends/partners "boss" 'cause you like them? confused Well, you can...but I don't do it.

I like the voices; just some of the motives differ then in the manga. (I know, I have all but the latest volume... sweatdrop ) I don't like the name change, but I like the actors. Just not whoever does Jimmy. He has no emotion! gonk Example: Conan was looking for clues, this time, he had to find out about the word "Oro". It turned out to be hte Italian word for gold. Conan's face: eek Jimmy's voice actor: Oh. It means gold. He said it like "oh, wouldja look at that? it means gold. Very interesting. I wonder what's on channel four?"

I would like the box, though, since I have the movies already... I think Geneon should put out a box set for the TV series. I think it would help, instead of having to buy all the individual volumes.
