do any of you know how to you the air brush style and can give me a few hints or how to do it, etc.

well.. if you are gonna use a brush, to make your edits, I'll tell you this. Make the base for the clothing ready with the pencil tool, because when you make it with the brush, it is gonna be too blurry....
Once you get to the shading, the best is to use the airbrush at its usual properties, but use the brush size 1 px or 3.. max 5 cause if you want detiles, you have to make it small...
