This is an english book that I read but I loved it! Read AT LEAST the parts above new stuff on this thread and the last ones at the bottom.

I want to lose weight and I thought first about Japanese food and so while searching for one I discovered this one. I was really interested because this wasn't just like reading a history textbook. It was interesting and she talked about the food when she was younger and her mother's cooking.

She shows some recipes (no pictures) and some meals for breakfast lunch and supper. She said that 3% of Japan are obese. Compared with other countries and it has the least amount and is the most healthiest.

I'm going to try the recipes soon because I live a 15 minutes bus ride from my Chinatown/market where she said they ingredients can be. I'm excited because she said they are easy to make.

She said that before going to America she weighed liek 100 in college and then she went and she gained 25 on JUST the food. Then she went back and lost it. Her husband who is an American lost 35 pounds and 8 inches to his waist by just eating the food.

But she said westernized food is starting to catch on in Japan so...

Anyways, if you're interested in Japanese cuisine or what to lose weight try her way and READ THE BOOK! It's fantastic and I'll try it and if it works I'll be happy! biggrin

So talk about stuff like food, books, health.

Oh below is the link and if you think that from this that I'm over weight I'm not, I just want to lose weight. There's nothing wrong with that and I'm sorry if anyone got offended.

You can get the book at some books stores, amazon or where ever or if your library has it, like what I did, get it there.

Japanese Women Don't Get Old or Fat

New stuff:

Not this one but she does tell you some recipes involving Fish. I don't think she says beef except for one recipe but you can avoid that.

Yay! I'm really excited that people like this idea and are willing to try it. Thanks! I feel special sharing this info.

But 2 things!

She said it's best to have a rice cooker and a WOK which I don't have a Wok... It's supposed to help with grilling.... and chopsticks. Because they help to digest food because you're eating only small amounts at a time.

And GET/READ the book just in case or before because it's interesting and she talks about when she was younger and you get a bit of an insight into Japan and stuff. She also mentions some historical things like about the Tsukiji Fish Market, Nihonbashi, and stuff like that.

She mentioned something at the end where she hopes or imagines that soon Japan will again have an Empress which she says it will be Aiko who was born in 2001 to the Imperial Family. It sounds cool and this is BY FAR the BEST book to help you lose weight and learn some cool recipes!

ANOTHER THING TO MENTION!!!

Moriyama, Naomi (the author) mentioned a story that is not know if it is true or a myth but anyways, it involves a female samurai (I think more of a warrior I don't know what she said she was but...) Tomoe Gozen (I'm sure that's the name. Heh Heh... I sound like I don't know what I'm saying ) and she was in a clan that ate brown rice which made them more stronger. And she and her lover (the leader) went to fight I think the people in Edo (I think it was Edo at the time unless it was another major city....) and those people ate white rice so they were weaker and in the end they ruled for a while and then they were thrown out but she survived and became a nun.

The story is something like that but longer. So she said to eat brown rice because it's better. So yeah

Of couse we all know that but she said American has more fat.

She said that Japan they follow something like "Hare hachi bunme/ Eat until you are 80% full" and the food is in smaller portions (even the westernized foods) and meat is not a main dish.

She said some other stuff but she said to try to walk 10 000 steps a day which is not that hard in Japan. She said like walking to the tsujiki Fish market and stuff for food. Walking and biking to work and stuff.

Like we can do that. And they do that. She said Japan's people have the highest age to live longer (live to older ages I meant) and more healthier. She said he mom went for a 1945 foot (or metre I can't remember) and her mom got to the top and said she wasn't even tired.

Like maybe that last part could have been a lie but she said the foods eaten and stuff helps to live longer. Like they eat fresher foods they say. Though now, things are becoming more western.

If you read the book you'll understand what I'm saying. In fact I should say this is better than those of you who are planning on not eating or being anorexic. You can lose weight and eat.

To make you all feel better, let's have a bet to show proof. Those of you planning to do this, every week from when you started type in You weight before, then whatever recipe or something you ate, if you walked, waist inches, and how much you weigh now.

Those of you who will just dance and workout and eat like that do the same and by January 21st 2007 we'll see who lost how much.

I'm doing this with my friend who is instead trying to be anorexic and do pilates and yoga and stuff. As an experiment. And if I'm correct and the people who read this book and followed it lost more weight than those who didn't THEN we'll know the truth. But It may take longer and she said like try breakfast, lunch and supper.

She said also rice there is eaten at all meals *Gohan desu yo!* as she quoted her mother. And it's like bread there but healthier. And to drink green tea or muchiga (I think it was parsely or barely tea confused I forget) and it's like water in Japan. It's free.

So we will see! Just soon this week I'm trying it out. In fact she also said Onigiri is a good lunch food and is easy.

So form:

Weight before you started:
Inches to you waist:
Foods/recipes you ate:
Excerise you did:
Weight now:
Inches to your waist now:

SO TAKE PART IN THE CHALLENGE AND WE'LL SEE! BE SURE TO READ AND/OR BY THE BOOK TOO! biggrin

Thanks so much for reading this! biggrin

Haha that's cool. -.- My mum's Korean and we have Asian every so often, but I suppose it's not enough to just have rice/tofu/beansprouts like once or twice a week.

crying We live so far away from an Asian grocery store (a whopping 5 hour drive!) that it'd be hard to get more than that though.

I've never had Korean. Is it good? smile

Awwww! sad That's sad. I think it's kinda fun to go there. smile It's one of my favourite places to go to because it's so different. Ha ha and I have sooo many stories there. I've had probably the most fun EVER in just that area. Plus they have the BEST bubble tea shop ever ( www.bubblicity.com ) and and the bubble tea's and the like they have is sooo good! smile I would love to live in that neighbourhood.

In the book though I think she said that someone grocery stores have an Asian section confused I didn't know that but you can see if yours do. But she listed you can get some stuff from some sites. She listed them too.

The reason people in general get fat is because they eat a ton of fattening foods, and sweets, and don't put any effort into working it off. They laze about their day, and have a lot of things handled, or brought to them. It's common sense, people. If you eat a lot of fattening foods, and don't exersize in any fashion, you're gonna get fat.

A good way to work it off, and enjoy it, is to find ways to reward yourself for going through all the effort, or make it a game, of some sort. Being a Bemanin myself, I would say a few good games of DDR, coupled with something like Taiko no Tatsujin, or a Pop 'n-type game and some good ol' crunches and balenced meals, will whip you into shape quickly.

Also, take some music out with you, and jog around town, and see what you can find. You never know what can be waiting for you out in the world, if you explore it a bit. I plan to take up some Capoeira classes, when I can find the time and money to do so, because I want to gain rhythm, as well as a defined shape.

That sounds very interesting. I will have to try it out. I would like to start cooking for myself despite being thirteen, since I CAN cook, after all, and it would put less work on my stepmother. (n_n) I'm a vegetarian, too, so I suppose it would be easy for me.

Although, Japanese cuisine tends to have fish oils in it, but if I cook it myself and avoid dishes like that I should be fine.

Oh, no, I am not vegan. Just a vegetarian. I do it for health reasons and the fact I really dislike meat. x_x I guess that's not as noble as doing it for the animals, so I feel a little bad.

Mm, we have both a rice cooker and a wok so I think I'll be able to do this successfully. Now I just have to wait until I get my next allowance. xD
