Please post suggestions here for LAJ rules & guidelines

List of suggestions already made:
(Not official, nor in any specific order)

General:
~Be courteous.
~Image size restrictions to follow sig guidelines (500x500/100,000bytes) for actual images; links to larger images, or thumbnails encouraged.
~No chatting within image-post threads; there are (wil be) chat threads for this purpose.
~You may only repost every 20 pages. If you have new art, please link, or thumbnail to old art if you wish to post it along with new art.
~HAVE FUN, DEMMIT!

Line-Artist Specific:
~Please try to post clean lines. There is a certain level of sketchiness that can be tolerated, but too much smudging, or sketchy will make for poor coloring. (Clean-up thread to come?)
~Do not demand that your art be colored. Be patient; it can take a very long time to color.
~If you would like to have your picture colored a certain way, post the details in a courteous manner; we are not on your payroll, so if someone does not follow your request, deal with it with a smile and a 'thank you'. After all, they took the time to color your picture.

Colorist Specific-
~Please do not significantly alter lineart without prior permission from the lineartist. Removing freckles is a far cry from turning a human boy into a four-armed wolf woman
~If the lineartist specifies certain colors, while you are not obligated to follow those guidelines, it would be polite to go along with the lineartist's intentions.

Lineartist rules:

>No extraneous talk (not even spam, just...keep it focused on the lineart? Then have the chatterthread, and PMs, for individual talk.
>Repost *once* every...twenty pages. That should do it.
>If you must post a big picture (larger than 500x500 pixels, perhaps?), put a link, not the picture. The same if you have a larger version of a small picture you have posted.

Maybes:
> Rename the lineart to include your name, for your own artistic safety
> All "preferred colored schemes" will be ignored.

Colorist Rules:
> Post in the correct threads
> Don't post "WAP"s- just the finished product. If you want to show a lineartist your progress so far, PM them.
> Always include credit to the lineartist *in the picture file*

You Need To Make Threads!
A Place To Post Sketches Lineart
A Place To Post Chibis Lineart
A Place To Post Realism Lineart
A Place To Post Anime Lineart

If You Just Post All Types All In One Place It Will Get Massive Huge!

Suggestion: Allow posting of WIPs, as long as the person is looking for suggestions from other artists. Actually, we should have a post in here for Works in progress, where people can give and get suggestions and tips. As for the actual LAJ thread out there, it shouldn't be allowed. Same with requests to clean up lines. Instead of posting clean up requests out there, post the request in here in the "clean up" thread. Then, when it's cleaned, have the cleaned version PMed to the original artist, who can post it back out there.

It should be the responsibility of the line artist to sign their work, and the responsibility of the colourist not to obscure the signing.

Yea, I agree with Catch. 3nodding Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm colouring the right thing, so it would be nice to have a thread dedicated to WIP's so people can just post there and ask for advice... I mean, you *could* always p.m. the artist about it, but some people's (me) inbox's are uber full and can't take any useless p.m.s. Also, it's fun to see what everyone has to say about your art. whee And yea, WIP's shouldn't be allowed in the new LAJ since people might get confused and thing that a WIP is actually a finished piecce and yeaa... stuff like that. sweatdrop

And a good idea might be to post the picture then link it to a credited version or something, because having letters going across it saying who did what isn't that pretty. sweatdrop It'd be easier to have a credit and non-credit version so people can.... *looses her thought process* Yeaaa...

We should note that the LAJ is neither the place to request or give critique. The purpose of LAJ is to have images colored, the PP forum itself is for displaying images & asking for feedback.

Quote:
1.) POST ONLY ARTWORK THAT IS YOUR OWN!! Do not post lineart that you "found" and just want to see colored. It's not only wrong, it's also illegal by breaking a Copyright to the artist. The artists posting their lineart here are allowing people to color them, but not to claim them as their own. By posting an artwork that is not yours, you're stealing. Avoid the hassle. Don't do it.

2.) When replying to posts, please edit out the images in your quotes as it's REALLY annoying to scroll past 6 or 7 of the same image on one page. Cutting them out also helps decrease the bandwidth used on someone's server and lifts the weight of page loading off Gaia's Servers.

3.) You do not need to post an image to be here, but this is not a chat thread. Do not post Spam, Chat Offers, Auctions, Quests, Advertisements, nor Bumps. This is a Sticky, it does not need bumped. And just because someone doesn't answer you in two seconds doesn't mean no one's here or everyone's ignoring you. Just be patient.

4.) Please use decent grammar and spelling. Avoid using "Leet" as much as possible, as it annoys many many people... If we can't read your post, we can't reply to you, now can we? And is it really that hard to type "you" instead of "u"? Honestly? Also, please bear in mind that 85-90% of the people here speak English. Please do your best to speak so we understand you. Thank you.

5.) Do not demand that your work be colored. People most likely will look you over intentionally when you do so. If you have gone at least 20 pages or so without any takers, or your post was lost in a rollback, feel free to repost the images and offer them again. Do not repost on every page nor yell at people for not coloring them. And leave out the whining. You just drive people away when you beg, plead, whine, and throw a temper tantrum.

ChibiGingi Wrote:
Lots of lineart... not enough people to color... or people who just don't want to color. Coloring is time consuming, so don't be too offended if no one does your picture...

6.) Offer criticism, but don't be rude. It's one thing to tell someone to keep working on shading or some such... but it's another to completely degrade and belittle the work they did. Especially if it was for your art. The more ungrateful and nasty you are, the less likely anyone will even look at your artwork.

7.) There is no limit to how many you can post, as a lot of people don't mind having options to choose from. But if you have more than like 5 pictures, try to make them URLs only as that would take up a lot less space.

8.) The "IMG" button is there for a reason. To aid in posting pictures. But we shall do this:
-Click "IMG" button.
-Enter the actual URL of the image with the extension (Such as: http://graphics.go-gaia.com/images/ban_top_3.gif )
-Post.

The code should look this way before you post:
User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

9.) (More of a suggestion than a rule...) If posting a big picture, post smaller versions or thumbnails of your images and either link them to the larger sizes or offer the larger pics by PM. Saves loading time for thread pages and once more saves lag from happening on Gaia's Servers because of images.

Ichigo Gaaru Wrote:
You may want to size that down a little, and then if someone wants to color it give them the big version. For general viewing purposes, I usually scale down my work so that the largest dimension (usually height) is 600 pixels. which is also the size it needs to be to post in the arena.

10.) (More of a suggestion than a rule...) Try to clean up your lineart as much as possible. If someone cannot tell where one thing ends and another begins, they most likely won't color it. While you don't have to have penned/inked images, the cleaner your sketch is, the more likely someone is to color it.

11.) (Last suggestion.) "Don't Feed The Trolls." If someone posts for the sake of starting an argument or just plain Flaming, best advice is just ignore them. Most likely, they're just overtly desperate for attention. When they don't get that, they'll eventually go away. *^^* And if you're one of those people, please go somewhere else like the Chatterbox. We don't need nor want that here.

Having read these thoroughly, I think we should just keep the original rules for the main thread, and be militant about enforcing them. They make sense, they cover all the bases, and they're a bit of the original thread to take with us.

Thoughts?

I think the note about altering lineart should be added. There was an argument in the original LAJ that spanned several pages and degenerated into flaming/trolling because somebody had (from what I was able to see of the argument) added cat ears to a character.

For now, I'll edit the original rules into the new thread.

yeah, adding a rule about either A) NOT editting lineart or B) ASKING before you do it, would be a very good idea. Completely forgot about that one.
