If there was a magick, that involved the reading of spells and incantations or enchanments.

Such as ancient books in latin or something xD
I sound corny

...You mean spellcasting? Of course. Basic magick. You can find spellcasting/writing tutorials, BoS, etc anywhere. Or you could just ask me. Im a spellwrite. 3nodding

But its not all Latin incantations and dancing in insence smoke. You gotta know the dynamics of casting first, all the basics of magick. Energy manipulation, visualization/palpitation, grounding and for some (excluding me, because I SUCK) meditation and trance work.

So its not all "WIND, POWER OF WINDYNESS, ALLOW ME TO FLY!!!!!!!!!!11" You gotta know what to do. Ok? That is all.

Yeah, but I mean... Doesn't that candle stuff, and incents seem a little much? I think all that stuff is just for show, honestly, how can a scent effect your magic?

You'd be suprised. A little scent, a little smoke, I have magic going like *that.*

rofl @CaptainPlanet

It depends. it sounds like youve picked up a neo-wiccan spellbook. I have two or three, and I dont use any of them anymore. Now theyre just for reference. Why? Because I have trouble concentrating with a bunch of candle lights in my face and twenty different scents wafting from the smudge stick, candles, inscence (<--can someone spell that word for me, please??), etc. I dont use them much anymore. I would use the smudge stick, but my dad's closet is in my room and he cant go to work smeling like armpit/marijuana. (It seriously smells like that.)

Heres a list of why I would use some of the stuff you would from NeoWiccan spellbooks. Be advised that Im not telling you what to do, im just mentioning.

Candles: Specific candle magick; illuminator; a tribute to your deities; a lil guide for the deceased; a focal point for a summoned entity. ("See the candle? Thats me.") Etc.

Insence: Specific incence magick; to set a mood; just because you like the smell; calling entities (you can sometiimes see them in the smoke); etc.

Atheme: directing energy; cutting etheral ties; etc.

...What else... Oh well, Ill add more if I think of it. But there are uses, but dont assume they all HAVE to be there. Use them as you need them, not as the book tells you to.

From what I've read, different smells and candles and such are used to relax and focus, and even some to call upon different deities/spirits/beings. I don't necessarily believe in any of it, but that's what more than a few sources say. In fact, I don't really agree what Aila-al-Jehan is saying. Not just because I don't believe in spellcasting and the like, but also because she isn't allowing you to form your own opinions. I have yet to see proof that any sort of spells work, and I think that a little belief can go along way. For instance, if one writes and say/perform/whatever a "Rain Spell" of sorts, and it rains the next day, who's to say it wouldn't have rained anyway? But because the spellcaster believes that their spell was the cause, it's automatic proof. I understand that you have to "believe spells will work for them to work," but don't get too caught up in something until you try it a few times yourself. I think a few people in this guild are a bit too...accepting. Make your own decisions on what you think is real. Don't take someone else's word for it.

In other news, do they still show Captain Planet? I loved that show...

I so need to try that spell Jehan >.<
And... I've definatly heard of spells like that, but I've never tried them. Hell, I've never tried anything even remotely resembling a spell as far as I know... the only thing I've ever really tried to do was meditate... I've heard some stuff, read some stuff, but never tried anything, nope.
So... as for inxense etc... I'd burn it when I tried to meditate... I liked the smell and I think it helped calm me down so that I didn't have random things in my head the whole time, like a commercial then a song then... you get the idea... but darn, my dad took my incense away quite a while ago claiming I could start a fire... and not realize it within arm's reach of my bed confused
Hmmm... I think I'm ranting again a bit... sorry ^.^;

After my last experience with incense (<-- Correct spelling! whee ) I still haven't gone near any. Much less used it >.> sweatdrop gonk

But I also find that oils work well. Lavender when I've had caffeine, cinnamon when I haven't had caffeine, etc.

Me too. :3 But I dont think so.

And I was actually careful not to box him in. If I did, Im sorry. I was just saying what I do personally. I didnt necessarily tell him to follow my footsteps, I was just going in that direction only because he posted himself that he thought that the candles and incense(<--THANK YOU FOR THE CORRECT SPELLING, it has been driving me NUTS!!) were superfluous (yet another word I cannot spell). I replied with I thought so to if not the focal point and went into detail. Thats all.

But youre absolutly right. I encourage that everyone try to find their best form of spell casting. If they're all for that large, elaborate set-up and can still cast well, then I commend you. If you like short and sweet, thats fine too. But finding your own methodology is important in magick. That means experimentation and experience. Ok?

Have I rectified my actions? sweatdrop

I've always read that the reason for candles, incense, etc. in magic(k) was to reenforce the psychodrama needed to get the spell to work. I think most people will agree that magic(k) is all in the mind and in order for us to unlock that part of ourselves that makes magic(k) work you sometimes need some props.

Like when you're a child and you want to play cowboys and indians; you could just play with sticks but it feels all the more authentic if you have those little capguns and the sheriff badge or stick-pony or feather headband... All that stuff.

I don't do spells that often; that's just what I've read on the subject for why those things are commonly used.

Are there any books that do not deal with that neo-wiccan stuff? I really do not favor the wiccan way at all. Mostly anything with candles insense and all that I don't see to be useful.

Are there any books that have incantations written in them? I guess anything not wicca would work for me...

Well, then... hmmm... I can write spells practically on demand for almost anything, if you need help, Im here. But I dont know many forms of magick that arent very neo-wiccan-y. I havent branched out very far. All I can say is, learn to write your own spells. Then the symbolism is completely yours. But Im currently In the employment of sigils, stones and poppets. Google them. Need anything, PM me.

a lot of that old

ABRAMELIN! and MAGIC SQUARE! buisiness had a lot of latin. I personally only learned to speak Latin because no one could figure out what I was saying. (BWAHAHAHA)

I've been told that many mages like that sort of thing. Takes a lot of you day, but is pretty effective. hm

So what kind of spell do you write? Like an example.

Yeah I guess you could say I am looking for the older ways. Bassically the magic that is lost. Not all this "OMG I PRAIS HABJALABA" I mean honestly, how can a magic made in the 70s be... useful?
