Firstly, Hinata would be too erm..scared to get close to Gaara. Plus he's the Kazekage; Hinata is a conservative girl and isn't one to act on her feelings (if she has a crush anyway) - I'll make Naruto as an example, since we all know that she has a little crush on him; and when did she _ever_ openly expressed her feelings for Naruto? She's too shy and lacks self esteem to say it to him, much less the Kazekage.
And as for Gaara...frankly, I can't think of any cannon relationships with Gaara...he's just too complicated for it and also, if he _does_ have a relationship/wife in the near future, i'm betting that it's an arranged marriage, most likely anyway.
But as for personality wise? I'd still wouldn't work. Note that both of them have issues in regarding their certain significant other.
For Hinata, she needs someone who'll treat her like a delicate flower, someone she can depend on - emotionally and/or physically.
For Gaara, he needs someone he can depend on as well, someone who can control his emotional instability and/or vunerability - someone _strong_ willed.
So you see, I can't really think of these two characters together since, frankly, it's not going to work - They will cancel each other out. Either Hinata would be too shy or Gaara can't have someone as weak willed as her.
Either way, i'm not telling you to stop liking that pairing. Since we all have the freedom to.
