So I watched Advent Children, and Tseng shows up without any explanation for why he's not dead. What gives?

In advent children, Kadaj's gang brutally tortures Tseng and Elena. Vincent explains to Cloud [when he saves him from kadaj's gang in the City of the Ancients forest with the uber cool trees!] that he managed to save Tseng and Elena, "but it was ugly". So tseng and elena survive to save President Rufus when he jumps from the roof shooting after kadaj and jenova's head. Tsend and Elena shoot nets out and catch him. If it wasn't for Vincent, they'd probably be dead. YAY VINCENT! rofl rofl rofl

I understand that, but didn't he already die in the game?
P.S. Yes, Vincent is the man.

He didnt die. It was left open, for the player to decide what happened to him since he was kind of left all alone in the entrance of the Temple. But he apparently lived through. Couldve called for a transport, since he is kind of hooked up being a Turk leader and all.

That's kinda weird. I never really looked at this subject much. Yeah, I think he should be dead! It would've made the story a little easier to understand.

In the game, he did in fact Die. At least, this is what was the original plot line. In Advent Childern either someone forgot he was dead, or there was another plot that'll be reveled in future games, involving how Tseng didn't actually die, but was merely beat to near death status. After all, Elena did blaim his death on the party, so this is a plot hole of EPIC proportions for the few who actually noticed.
All in all. Someone must of used Pheonix Down.

Technically, when Elena confronts you in Icicle Inn, she doesn't say specifically that Tseng died. She blames Cloud and Co. for 'What they did to Tseng,' not out right saying that she blames them for killing them, but leaving the chance that her, perhaps, survived. Tseng was still in the Temple of the Ancients, and when it became the black materia by shrinking, there wouldn't be any body left (since it seems that Avalanche didn't bother to take him out of there). Elena would have no idea that Tseng was hurt like that unless she found him injured like that. Same with the thing about him being dead.
That is, unless Avalanche was callus enough to just toss his corpse out of the Temple right before it shrank. But that's besides the point.
In a way, it's similar to the whole 'Why is Rufus still alive?' question, except the answer for the Rufus question is shown in Dirge of Cerberus' intro movie. razz

Some of these answers will probably be answered in the upcoming game, Crisis Core (or "Before Crisis I can't remember, lol!) but the whole game surrounds the Turks and their antics. (I think anyway!) sweatdrop

(I think anyway!) sweatdrop Crisis Core=Last Order=anime styled movie shown (with english subtitles) for the japanese version of Advent Children. Before Crisis=cell phone game involving the Turks and leading up to the Nivelheim incident. Crisis Core is different from Last Order. Crisis Core is a game featuring Zack and its based before the Nibelham Incident. Last Order is an animated reinterpretation of the Nibelham Incident and how Zack and Cloud got to Midgar.
