What I really can't stand is when people use Janglish *English with random Japanese words thrown in* I don't get why, but to me, it seems elitist, and excluding of people trying to learn the language.

"Konnichiwa, how are you?"

"You're such a Baka."

And other such things. This may sound a bit offensive, but if you're going to use words from another language, at least have the decency to explain what the hell they mean, or use it in it's native language. If I wanted to hear two languages butchered, I would listen to the Spanglish they throw around in my neighborhood.

And just to be clear, Janglish to learn the language is not that bad of a thing(as long as you explain what you're saying, and what the words mean to those listening, I cannot stress this enough). Janglish to exclude others from conversation, or to give you a vague sense of being special, or of higher standing is what angers me. Also, mispronunciation is another thing that bursts my bubble.

Example: the name Sakura shouldn't have any stress on any syllables, but in English, that rule flies out the window...and the emphasize THE WRONG SYLLABLE. Nothing makes me want to smash my set more than hearing SAH-kura or NAH-ruto, or even when they attempt to say it Japanese-like, and STILL MISPRONUNCIATE IT. Also, when people use terms in Japanese that are EASILY translated into English (Onii-chan, whatever-jutsu, etc), it makes me want to find the transliterator of the series, or the person speaking it, and say, "DO YOUR EFFIN' JOB, AND DO THE WHOLE THING IN ENGLISH, NOT BITS AND PIECES!"

Again, I apologize if I offend anybody, but as a learner of languages, these are probably what attract my ire the most, and will make me incensed, if used repeatedly. Should I ever become a teacher, I would probably punish such things with 20 lashings to the back with a Kendo stick. (if such were allowed) [/rant]

it really make people who want be japanese stick out. i only saying anou because i have never said ummm in my life (same with un,uun,haa,eeto and little word, which sometime confuse foreigner)

and as to what koiyuki has say, i am glad i have not seen anime in english, it sounds like it kills your brain(or atleast veryone here syas that)

Lol I learned those from playing the games... xd There is quite a few different ways they say "chikusho"...

What I never really figured was what does "Date ni anoyo wa mitenee ze!" mean literally! That seems to be like Yusuke's catch phrase... No matter how I translate it it just doesn't add up!! xp

I live in California USA. I just have friends whose families are from Japan or the phillapines(which some of the islands speak japanese). Are they use it for their at home language but are quite used to speaking in english and sounding normal. But sometimes when they are not thinking about it they slip into Japanese and I can only follow a word or two of what they say. So I may have a general thought of what they are saying and I would just answer them in english or Janglish. They don't seem to mind that I do that though. I just barely know enough Japanese to rarely be a guest at their houses for a quick visit or meal.

otaku can be use in sense of nerd of here...but what do foreigner know.

Have you ever tried using context clues? I may not have known exactly what baka meant before I started taking japanese, but I knew how to say hello (konnichiwa) and goodbye (sayonara). So they're not really random. And how can Janglish be elitist and excluding when you're simply throwing in very basic words? That's like saying that Spanglish is elitist b/c you can't understand what the word "refrigarador" means and that b/c you don't know what it means, you feel like someone is discouraging you from taking the language.
