WELCOME TO FIRE ELEMENTAL MAGIC

Within the circular structure known as the Victoria A. Linvea building, in fact, at the heart of the building itself, is a double set of large wooden doors with iron handles. Through these doors is an enormous, bare rectangular room. The floors and walls are of smoothed, pale gray stone. Carved into the floor at the very center of the room are two identical dragons, facing opposite directions. Between these dragons is a massive, black iron cauldron, filled with fire.

The room is lit by six braziers, three on both sides, that protrude outward from the wall about a foot, and about seven feet up. Each of them are filled with fire like the cauldron, and held up by three thick, strong iron bars (one for each side, and one for the center). Near the back of the room is a series of steps that stretch across the entire length of the room. These steps are small, and narrow, and lead to a slightly raised platform. The room ends a few feet after the platform begins.

There are no desks or seats, so students will either stand, or sit on the floor. The glare from the flames give a slightly odd, light shade of orangish red to the walls and floor, and the temperature is quite warm. Not exactly the most interesting of rooms. If the room is NOT lit, it is off limits to all students unless accompanied by a professor. When the doors are open, class is preparing to start. When class has started, these doors will close, but they can be opened at any time, unless locked for one reason or another by professor Develuni.

Rules and Regulations for Fire Elemental Magic:

Fire is much like the other elements, in that it has two sides to its personality. It's life-giving warmth cooks our food, keeps us comfortable in the winter, provides light for us to see, and much more. Yet, despite these things, fire is also a destroyer, and I will NOT tolerate ignorance and/or disrespect towards it. Now for my other rules.

~Number One-You WILL respect both myself and your fellow students. There is absolutely NO harassment, sexual, verbal, or any other in this class.

~Number Two-Please do not speak while I am speaking. If you have any questions, you only need to raise your hand. You are allowed to talk amongst yourselves until I begin class, and only if I give you permission to do so during class itself.

~Number Three-When I call for a session of meditation, you WILL meditate. If you have trouble doing so, or you do not know how, tell me and I will help you as much as I can.

~Number Four-You are not allowed to bring any consumable/drinkable substances other than water, NO exceptions.

~Number Five-While sparring with another student in this class will be rare, there will be times when you will duel. Before each dueling session, I will inform of you the rules. Most of your duels will be done with me.

~Number Six-Do NOT intentionally harm another student. There is NO fighting outside of duels. If you intentionally harm another student, you WILL be punished accordingly.

~Number Seven-Try to enjoy your time in this class.

((I will give everyone a few days to get into the class. If needs be, I will close the class temporarily until everyone is ready to continue; I just wanted to kind of keep things moving.))

Alsiria stood a few feet away from the cauldron at the center of the room, watching the embers very closely. Her body was covered by sleek, black leather clothing, which clung a little tightly to her body. She was also wearing a cloak, black and lined with gold, over her outfit.

The flames within the cauldron danced upward into the air, and her gray eyes followed them. A bit of sweat rolled down her face. Alsiria had never taught before, so this was exciting, but also a bit nerve-wrecking. Anxious, she clasped her hands together and placed them gently against her stomach.

"Perhaps you should have waited a bit before starting your class Alsiria..."

Miss Develuni was hoping that her students even knew about her class. Would the headmaster inform them? Perhaps she should go and look for them? Were they still in a class? She didn't know any of these things. The headmaster had told her that she would have to start rather soon, and she didn't take him lightly.

"I'm sure the headmaster will inform the students somehow..."

The flames continued to dance, and she continued to watch them, waiting and hoping that her students would come to her without too much trouble.

"If anything dearest, you can always close the classroom up if you started too early."
PostPosted: Fri Jul 28, 2006 4:56 pm

Time had passed now, and she was starting to have doubts.

"They're not coming dearest...you have to do this yourself..."

Alsiria nodded. She knew that the headmaster wouldn't be able to take care of everything. This would have to count for something.

"You have an idea dearest...now use it..."

Miss Develuni hurried out of her classroom, preparing the energy inside of her body to create something that would roar throughout the castle grounds. This was it, and probably the hardest thing she had ever been forced to attempt. Down the hall she moved, and through the building until she came to the outside world.

"Focus..."

She closed her eyes, gathering up as much of her energy as she could. Within moments, her eyes opened, her arms were spread out to the air, and a burst of flame soared upward into the sky. The force of the fire caused a roaring action, almost like that of an explosion. Alsiria's arms dropped weakly as she collapsed to her knees, breathing heavily. If they didn't hear what she just did...they'd have to be deaf.

Alsiria turned her head upward, and smiled as the great burst of flame began to die away very slowly. Hopefully her students would see the remnants, and then link it to her. If not, she would have to get them one by one, and bring them to her class.

((There...that should spark the curiousity of the students...and maybe others...but let's just hope that it gets the students to come for now shall we ^_^ Follow this thread here))

Mackenzie made her slow way through the hallways eventually arriving on a large wooden door. The heat was through here she knew it. She ran her hands over the paneling and found an iron handle. The iron wasn't as warm as she knew it would be inside the room. Opening the door she stepped inside and kept moving. The warmth was here, she could hear the crackling of fire and she kept moving toward it. She slid her feet gently over the stone. When she was within a foot of the brazier she stopped and sat down extending her feet towards the wonderful warmth. Letting her mind wander, she let the sound of fire's dance map out the room for her.

((edited for fun and cause I'm bored smile ) Mackenzie pulled her feet back from the flame filled brazier. They were warm enough now that much longer gaining heat would only cause blistering. She reached up and pulled out the two pins holding her hair up. She pulled the soft mass over her shoulder and began to comb her fingers through it. As long as it wasn't wet it was fairly manageable, and fairly thin. Sighing in frustration she brushed it back over her shoulder and stretched her fingers towards the primary heat source. She'd determined by now that there were six other braziers all crackling in the room's silence. She brushed her fingers along the floor where she sat and discovered a different mineral from the main floor. She followed it with her fingers tracking to where it passed over the path of yet another mineral. She followed the first mineral, trying to track it's pattern, and was forced to begin crawling around. The effort was futile and eventually she just stopped and felt around a particularly intricate patterning (the dragon's head). Dropping her head she smiled a little. I have no idea what this is . . . but the detailing is very well done. Her hair brushed past her ears and some of it pooled around her hand on the carving. The whisper of it's movement tickled her eardrum and the little smile grew.

((Excellent work on entertaining yourself Wolfiso razz . Most of what is below will be a reciting of her rules and the like. Feel free to simply skim, but try not to miss the important parts. This point came from this thread))

Miss Develuni pushed the doors forward, forcing them to open. As she stepped through, she noticed a girl near the central cauldron. She smiled gently, and began to approach. As she did so, she glanced over her shoulder, "Now dears, if you'll please come right in. Make yourself at home."

Now she was only a foot away from the girl, "Well then, hello! I'm not sure how you got past all of us, but that doesn't matter. As long as you're here, that's what counts."

After the girl had joined the students, Alsiria stopped, and watched the flames within the cauldron roar into the air.

"This is it..."

As earlier, the woman turned on her heel. Her bright smile and warming posture remained, "Welcome to Fire Elemental Magic everyone!"

She clasped her hands together and took a few steps towards the students, who had gathered into a group, "Now, if you'll lend me your ears, I have some rules I wish for you to follow."

With that, she began walking from side to side, her voice, while a little tense and quick, kept its soothing essence...

"Fire is a wonderful element. It cooks our food, warms us when we're cold, and provides a light in darkness. True, fire is a giver of life...but it CAN also take life away. I will not tolerate ignorance in this class. You will respect this element, like the other elements, or you will be punished, and it will probably be by fire itself."

She stopped for a moment, and then continued, "You will respect both myself and your fellow students. Harassment, whether it be verbal, sexual, or any other, will NOT be tolerated. Please don't speak while I'm speaking. If you have a question, simply raise your hand and I will call on you. You are allowed to speak only before and or after class unless I say otherwise."

Again, Alsiria stopped, and glanced at the students, wondering how they were taking all of this in. She smiled again, and continued, "We're going to meditate in this class. If you don't know how, or you need help, tell me, and I will do what I can for you. I don't want any food or drinks in this class, unless it's water, because this room can get quite warm. Before each dueling session, I will inform you of the rules. Most of your duels will be done with me."

Now her eyes grew very serious, "Do NOT purposely harm another student in this class. You will be punished if you do so. I want you all to have a great time learning in this class. I want to make sure you're safe, because I care about you. With that being said, preaching session one is over."

Alsiria turned away from the students, "I would like all of you to get into a line, or some other means of order. This can be random; I don't care where you are, as long as you are there. I will start with the person furthest right, and move left."

Once the students had done as she asked, Alsiria began to question them, "I want to know your full name, experiences with fire, and anything important that you must tell me."

((Just post stating your info and the like, kind of like Skadi's class.))

A pair of feet came pounding down the hall way, hair and fabric flying, the teenager clearly in a great hurry. She'd seen the 'WOOSH' of fire just seconds before and remembered that there was supposed to be a class... but she had been staring at the water in her cup for so long that she'd forgotten.

Cath fell into the classroom just behind another student and stood there near the door, Fire wasn't really her favorite element anyway, taking in the surroundings with large eyes.

Nervously, she tugged the piece of fabric off her head, flipped her hair back and retied it so it would be tighter, a habit that she'd gotten into when she was unsure of what to do or to say.

The teacher's instructions sounded like it all made sense. And Cath would hardly argue with water, even though she prefered rum. She doubted the teacher woman would be very pleased if she requested that instead...

Cath moved into the line and waited for the teacher-woman, who she guessed was called Alsiria, standing at full respectful attention.

"Me name is Catherine Kidd aka The Trout, also known as the Silk Princess... long story there, you wouldn't want to know, I know fire blows up stuff and burns things, and that water always defeats it, and it's dangerous if ye let it loose on oil or gunpowder. Um... I can't think of anything else."

Hanille listened intently to the professor's words. Her voice sounded fierce, and yet, strangely kind.

How was she able to be so soothing and warm to everybody? She accepted the fact that the woman had probably just been lucky with her life. Hanille was quite different. Still, this woman seemed to have secrets about her that she liked to keep hidden. Didn't everybody?

Once everyone was in line, Hanille noticed she was one of the first. Soon, the woman came to her, and 'twas her turn to speak.

"Hanille Rogan. I um...really don't have any experiences with fire. I know it's deadly, and burns."

"Be sure to tell her about your water needs..."

"I have to drink a good deal of water every day, to keep myself from getting sick..."

Now the woman moved on to the other students. Hanille was relieved she hadn't embarassed herself like she did in the previous class. Yet...this was fire elemental magic, and she hadn't the slightest idea of how to create or manipulate it. After all, she seemed to be strictly water based. How was she going to create fire?!

She had a feeling this was not going to be an easy class either. Were any of the classes easy? Good god! Herbology had that searing greenhouse, and some of those plants looked like they would eat an unfortunate soul who just happened to get too close. Non-magical self defense? The professor of that class was the largest, most fearsome woman she had ever known! Not to mention she had no fighting ability whatsoever. Now this class was here, and she didn't want anything to do with fire.

"At least this woman is kind...so far..."

Pell had entered the classroom silently, and sat down, just before Miss Develuni had begun her lecture. The rules were reasonable and easily followed, but he didn't exactly like introducing himself. I thought that I was done doing this in middle school.
It was of little to no consequence, he would have to do as he was told. So he stood and began to speak. "Pell Serin and my only experience with fire is using it to cook or do other simple tasks. You may need to know that I can burn very easily." He sat back down, cross-legged, and waited to hear more from his other classmates.

((Augh. I really hate doing this without talking to Kimora, but she's taken a bit long...))

Jaycee's face held its typical pleasant half smile, but inside he was very much peeved. Not only had he not lived up to his own expectations in self defense class, but he hadn't even gotten to discuss the homework with his partner. Akello, the moor girl. They had gone outside to speak, and had been interrupted by that explosion. Following the other students to find out what the disruption was, Jaycee now found himsef in fire magic. Ironic, that the feeling inside and the element of this class would match so well.

As the teacher gave instructions, Jaycee was mildly surprised by her demeanor. He had been taught that fire was the strongest element, yet this woman didn't seem strong. When he had learned the fire style movements, his sensei had been a quiet, man, but with an immensly strong presence. This woman didn't radiate much in the way of power or control.

With a mental shrug, Jaycee watched as the line formed around him. That was good, in his present mood he really didn't feel like moving around for someone who hadn't earned his respect in one way or another. When the lady came to him for his name and whatnot, he gave her the slightest of bows; she was a sensei after all, even if she didn't seem one. Then, with his implacable demeanor and an even tone he spoke

"My name is Jaycee, I know how to start a fire, and what can start them. I've also put out more than a few, and know what can stop fire. Also, I know what concepts fire symbolizes, if that means anything..." "to you"" he finished silently.

He might have to explain that Jaycee was in fact his full name, he didn't have a surname that he knew of. He had only written "Mendaci" in the last name section of his application because it was marked "required", and his nickname was the closest thing he had to a surname.

When speaking, Jaycee also wondered if he should bring in his martial experiences. Yes, he knew how to fight in the fire style, but no, it didn't actually involve fire. So he ended with saying concepts, which would probably be meaningless to everyone in the class."Oh well."

"And I've no experience with magical flames whatsoever"

There. That should cover everything she asked for. With another slight bow, Jaycee finished and fixed the woman with his dark eyes. His flat gaze was one of perfect neutrality, but few people could bear such a look, so she would be moving on shortly. Or at least, this was the plan.

Jedrek had followed the relatively large group of students back toward the Victoria A. Linvea building to begin what he assumed was their first fire magic class. He had been greatly looking forward to this class as it was the reason he chose to become the teachers assistant for the elemental magic class. From a young age he had been extremely gifted with fire and considered it his strongest ability. As he had studied at Windsor over the past few years, his gifts had grown even stronger. At this point, his control over fire was strong enough that it did him no harm at all as though it were a naturally occuring part of his body.

He was a bit worried for Miné though as he was unsure how she would react to prolonged exposure to an element that would truly unearth a volatile moment in her life. He kept his hand around her shoulder for the entire walk over but had to remove it as they fell into line.

When he reached the front, he spoke carefully. "I am Jedrek Ralbofski. I have ... an extended history with fire," he almost laughed at his careful words before extending his arm towards the professor. Small flames erupted from his skin, but they were very controlled. "I can create and manipulate fire. It also does me no harm." With that, the fire retracted into his skin and he felt an unusual warmth as though he pushed part of his very essence from his body and then retracted it.. as though he was fueled with the fiery element.

Mackenzie had been pleased to hear people approaching. The door opened and she listened carefully to the footsteps as they came in. She could smell Jedrek and Jaycee on the following breeze as well as Mine's sweeter scent. A few new students as well, and leading the pack was a woman who smelled like ash, soot, and spice. This woman spoke to Mackenzie.

"Well then, hello! I'm not sure how you got past all of us, but that doesn't matter. As long as you're here, that's what counts."

Mackenzie scuttled over to where the others students stood, the woman's words had been gentle but nonetheless a mild chastisement. Mackenzie listened quietly to the explanation and was pleased to find she hadn't wandered into forbidden territory. Lining up with the other students as instructed she gave her answers. "My name is Mackenzie Danaan. I've had no seriously traumatic experiences with fire, a neighbors house burned down when I was five and Rae and I used fire for cooking but other than that..." Mackenzie shrugged before continuing. You mentioned meditation, I've heard about that but I have no actual experience and will probably need help."

A few new students as well, and leading the pack was a woman who smelled like ash, soot, and spice.

((Dearest, Alsiria doesn't exactly smell like a fireplace or anything. She's a half-elf, and a female, so she would probably smell a bit more nicely. However, a bit of spice is acceptable, You may want to just get rid of ash and soot though. Thank you ^_^))

Alsiria had a reaction for just about every student. The first student she came to called herself the "silk princess". After hearing what the girl had to say, she smiled, "Long story? Actually, I would be quite interested in hearing it. That is, if you don't mind telling me some time dear."

She smiled gingerly and came to the next student. This girl was wearing black robes. Her skin was pale, and her eyes had a tinge of pink within them. Reminded Alsiria of an albino. After hearing her response, miss Develuni frowned a bit, "Doesn't anybody here have some abilities with fire?"

No matter. Alsiria patted the girl on the shoulder, "Very well. Don't bother raising your hand; simply take a drink when you need one."

The next student was an elf. When she first approached, he was sitting.

"Somebody doesn't seem to be very active..."

She thought she could sense a bit of arrogance and pride in his voice. Still, she shrugged it off. After he was done speaking, she noticed he took a seat again. A smirk fell upon her face.

The slight bow from the next student pleased her a bit, though he seemed to be aggravated for one reason or another. Did he hate the class already? Alsiria listened to him closely. After he finished, she stared back into his eyes, which lacked all emotion. She smiled, "Fire symbolizes strength and power, like the other elements, and yes, it does matter to me, that's why I ask you to respect it, along with the other elements. Thank you Jaycee."

She moved on to the next student, "Well, he's certainly strong in his beliefs it seems."

Jedrek probably pleased her more than anything else that day. After he had demonstrated his abilities, she practically hugged him from excitement. Instead, she grinned, "Excellent! I am glad to see that you have come far in your ways with fire. I think you will enjoy this class a good deal young Jedrek."

She gave him a small wink and moved on to the next student. Upon seeing her again, she realized the girl was probably blind, due to the look of her eyes. After hearing what she had to say, she placed one of her hands calmly on the girl's shoulder, "I'm glad you have told me about your lack of experience with meditation ahead of time. I promise to do what I can to help you."

After finishing with the rest of the students (sorry, but I've waited about a week now, and class really has to get moving), she turned and approached the cauldron. For a moment, the only sound was the crackling of the many flames throughout the room. Then, the professor turned to face her students again.

"Quite a few of you will have trouble in this class. Despite today, I don't want you to think you are hopeless when it comes to calling fire, and using it. Do not be discouraged if you do not succeed at first; everybody has to start somewhere. Besides, if you were all experts in dealing with fire, there would be no point in this class existing."

She took a few steps forward, "Obstacles make life more interesting."

Her eyes fell on Pell, and they narrowed. Her voice was quick, and more forceful, "Your fellow students are standing while you sit. Tell me, what gives you the right to sit? You think you are better than them? Stand up, now!"

With that, her expression turned to normal, "Let me make one of my rules clear to you all again: You WILL show respect to both myself and your fellow students."

She smiled again, "Now, with that, I would like all of you to find a place in the room that you feel is most comfortable for you. Once you have found that place, you may THEN sit down. Once everyone has found their place and made it known by sitting down, I will give you further instructions. Please do this now."

PostPosted: Fri Aug 11, 2006 10:03 pm

(((We call this foreshadowing biggrin "Somebody doesn't seem to be very active..." ))

A reprimand from this woman was so soft that it barely even registered as one. Jaycee's bow was deeper though, when she finished speaking. Anyone who could take his flat gaze as calmly as this professor had some sort of inner strength. The loose strands from Jaycee's ponytail fell across his face when he bowed, and in having to brush errant bits of hair away. the flicker of Jedrek's flames caught Jaycee's dark eyes. The elf had his hand streched out, and small flames covered the young man's hand and upper arm.

A hint of spiked envy rose in Jaycee's chest as he watched the other student conjure flames from his outstreched hands. Earth, wind, he would have been impressed by displays of these elements, but fire was one of his favorites. In combat he had always preferred the quick, strong moves of the fire style, and something deep within him desired the ability to control flames. He remained impassive though, as the flames flickered away, their dancing reflections in his eyes mirroring the desire and envy inside. As the last tongue of fire dissapeared, the desire that had been rising in his chest suddenly dropped off into nothingness.

The teacher moved on to the next student, and Jaycee's mind wandered, assessing the room as the teacher made comments to the various students. It was an interesting place, and the dragons carved into the floor almost immediatly caught his attention. They were thicker than the dragons he was used to seeing. Not the gracefully lithe creatures on some of his clothing, but stocky creatures with powerful chests, and solid heads.

The teacher's sharp voice bought Jaycee's attention back to the classroom. Had she just been yelling at one of the students? She didn't seem the type to yell. "Strange". As she continued with her instructions Jaycee sent a quick glance around the room. Many people thought martial artists would sit in a place they could observe everything, but that was for the rookies.

A senior in combat would actually leave himself open until the last moment. The name of the strategies related to that idea translated onto "Moon on the water" and "Open on eight sides".. With a shrug, Jaycee pushed the strategies out of his mind and made his way to the center point between the cauldron and the front of the room. Incidentally, the spot he picked was on the head of the dragon. Folding his legs slowly beneath him into a meditative position, Jaycee awaited further instructions. The professor had mentioned meditation, and it seemed just like combat, magic required meditation to execute well.

Alauniira had dragged into the room toward the back of the pack, and unfortunately, it seemed as though this Fire Woman was planning to utilize some of the same tactics as the crazy Tall Woman from the last class. What was this? A classroom marathon?

Moving randomly into line, Niira folded her arms, and when it was her turn, she spoke plainly, "Uh, my name is Niira. Er, Alauniira Rilynduis, I guess. My experience with fire is mostly as a light and cooking source, and it's kind of well-known that it does, in fact, burn. An important fact? Fire magic and I do not like each other." Well, blunt as she was, it was true. The half-drow had NEVER been good with fire magic. At best, she could make a torch get a little brighter, but it was more likely that it was due to a gust of wind or sudden increase of oxygen than her magical prowess.

Watching with a raised eyebrow as Jedrek ignited his arm, Niira felt more and more secure in her assumption that he was creepy. Yup, definitely a weird kid. She would have thought more about what creepy things Jedrek might be up to, but Niira was interrupted by a request to find a comfortable place.

Comfortable place? Hah, she liked the bed in her dorm room, frankly, but after her long day, even Alauniira was tired of causing a scene. Purple eyes spotted the farthest corner of the room, and soon, Niira was there, slumping down in the corner with her legs out in front of her and back leaned against the wall.

Well, she did like sitting. Maybe this class wouldn't be as bad as she feared?
