Ok, guys. I think this is one thing we all need to work on. Myself included. Being openminded is what allows our knowledge to learn and grow. Right now we are kind of killing and trampling. For example, how do any of these replies that I quoted help ANYONE in ANYWAY? Quote: I do find you a complete idiot with an infuriority complex Quote: So.. I've read all the posts and everything. I think you're an idiot of some sort Quote: Open minds are nonexistent Come on, guys! gonk I found these and others in just the main forum. Those don't help! I'm not trying to irritate anyone by quoting them, I didn't put names. If you MUST start an arguement, do it in a civilized, constructive-criticism way Example: Someone thinks that they have a higher level of comprehension, or a certain power, or a special ability. So they say so. Even if you think that's total Bull Sh*t, be openminded. Think on it, look it up. I you still think it's bull sh*t, don't say "That's total Bull Sh*t". try "I don't really believe that, because: ". Give your reason. Then the other peoples think about that, and do their polite replies. It makes things a little less "ZOMGOSH jump down each others throats kill people with other opinions" type of thing. If everyone were more openminded, we'd learn more, grow more, and fight less 3nodding

You are trying to steal my job, aren't you? thats it, Banned young lady! 3nodding Seriously though, good job. The best group of people to lead are the ones that don't need to be led... that can work for themselves, as well. I do believe I am pretty open minded, as I have only rejected.... ummm... about 4 people, I think. Well... more, if you count fundamentalist Christianity... or Islam... but those are for different reasons.

xd If you count Christianity, I've disregarded the opinions of the largest group in the world 3nodding Other than them, I try to listen to what everyone says and discern my own beliefs about it whee Sometimes I think what someone says seems possible (though many times not nearly probable) and sometimes it seems impossible, but similar to something possible. Rarely, though, someone says something that just seems kinda out there <_<;;

I try to be open minded..and admittedly, I do fail horribly at it every now and again. For instance- I am conviced that "immortal vampires" like Lestat and Dracula do not exist, and everyone online whom I have encountered claiming to be one, could never sufficiently back up their own facts, usually not even knowing who the monarch of their home country was during the very year they had claimed to be turned. So, I'm VERY convinced that immortals don't exist and are simply the creations of fantasy and myth. If they do, I'd have to see one in the flesh to believe it. 3nodding Having said that, if someone ever claims to be an immortal, I usually have a habit of calling them on it. Yagi Tessil Joshua_Ritter Ah... you have a cool symbolism behind it.. ^ ^() I don't get much in the the way of personal symbolism, but it only makes sense to you. ^ ^ I like your theories, but whos to say a legendary sword isn't meant for you? ^ ^ I think thats possible. Me? Wielder of a legendary sword? ... I don't know, Josh..That sounds like the kinds of things that children's stories are made of. sweatdrop Besides, I can't swordfight for my life..Er..Well..Not that I've tried..Though, I know for a fact that I can't stagefight with swords, anyway. I've totally missed the contact point with the person's blade several times and barely missed my "opponent" each time.. >.< Not saying that it's impossible...It just seems unlikely.. sweatdrop That's from a thread that I had made. I was a tad blunt, and I come by it honestly. Though, that's about as blunt as I get around these parts. I could be wrong, but I do not recall ever calling anyone an idiot or anything of the sort. neutral Though, if I think something to be unlikely..I will state it as such..NEVER as an affirmative no, or a verbal attack of somesort and ALWAYS as an opinion. My opinion. 3nodding

Damn, I knew I should have read this thread first. Anyway, I wrote this a few minutes ago and posted it in the "I love you" thread. It applies to this one, too (or at least parts of it). DrasBrisingr Sorry, Joshua, but I'm hardly a role model. I just prefer intelligent conversation to screaming matches (for the most part). But I do agree that this has gotten a bit out-of-hand. Yes, we all do need to be open-minded. But I think that definition has gotten a bit clouded. It is simply being unprejudiced, or having pre-formed opinions of things (ususally based on falsified information). And while you may have a pre-formed opinion of something, it dosen't mean that it can't change. People don't often change. So the same people that are screaming at each other right now will always be screaming to defend themselves. Opinions are easier to change than people, though. I didn't mean to attack the credibility of anyone. Honestly, and you can cite this in my post, all I said was that I found that instance to be "hardly believable." It was my opinion. I'm sorry I'm opinionated, but it's just the way I am. And damn, people, before you go off screaming about how other people needed to be open-minded, there's plenty of blame to go around. Yes, I mean, you. You could be a bit respectful of people who don't believe in everything you do. It's the classic religion vs. atheism argument again. While the atheist should respect the religious, the religious should also respect the athiest. So, in conclusion, everyone shut the ******** up, take a deep breath, and discuss these things with a bit of civility.

I notice that first quote was mine. If you'd have read what was going on, you'd understand.
I am always openminded, and what people want to beleive, I'll support them for that. However, when that person is being a jackass about it, I'll tell them. There is a difference between being blunt, and being closedminded.

I maintain a rather healthy level of skepticism, and just plain hatred for the attention-craving.
If someone goes "IM AN OTHERKIN IM A CAT WITH WINGS I SAW U IN THE ASTRALS LOL" I usually go "No. Find a better way to bother me." There are few people I actually believe. I guess I am closed minded, because if you just walk up to me and tell me "OH HEY I KNOW PYROKINESISES" I'm going to think otherwise. If people seem actually wise and intelligent about it, and people don't just go "UM I DONT REMEMBER HOW I DOES IT" then I give them my belief.
I'm sorry, but I'm not gonna believe a random person's bullshit. I'm gonna believe someone who knows what they're talking about.

This doesn't mean i am not open to new ideas, but you better have one hell of an argument to back yourself up. I will, however, freely admit when i am wrong and step aside. I'm not THAT bad...yet... My tolerance levels do go pretty far though, but there are some things i just can't believe. (Like the book of revalations being any more than a metaphor *cough*) So if you are going to talk to me about something that seems totally off the wall, you better be able to explain yourself.

The ironic, ironic part is I don't take unbelieveable B.S., but I am the most unbelieveable person I know... I guess I just gradually built up my own mythos which slowly deviated from accepted reality, I think.

I imagine that 'someone' wink wouldn't like it if someone says "I have a higher understanding of the world of psychokinesis than you" or somesuch thing, it would get under your skin, even if it's true. Humans don't like to be told they're inferior.
