This thread is now stickied, as it's important that people posting in this guild understand what we Libertarians stand for. It's also important for newbs too. Any questions dealing with what the Libertarian party or what this guild stands for, can be asked here also.

Guild: A group of Gaians sharing a common interest. It's like a private message board where we can join and share ideas without worrying about spam from trolls.

Libertarian Party: The LP has been around since the 70s. Libertarians believe that individual rights trump the right of the state in every possible way. We believe in a free market and in individual freedoms. If you want to smoke, do drugs, drink, stay out all night, own a gun, etc., that's your business and no one else's.

I'm going to sticky this thread, its important that people posting in this guild understand what we Libertarians stand for. It's also important for newbs too.

Any questions dealing with what the Libertarian party or what this guild stands for, can be asked here also. Sango-Sama put it pretty accurately, she knows what she's talking about.

Libertarian VERY loosely defined, in my opinion, is fiscally consverative and socially liberal. For instance we want to cut government spending AND taxes, for the economy, and we want to legalize things like guns, drugs, etc... for our social beliefs. To limit the powers of the government.

Excellent sites.

One of my favorite sites is www.downsizedc.org. It makes petitioning big government easy surprised .

I just wanted to clarify something. Even though a libertarian government would not interfere with people using drugs/alcohol, it WOULD stop it if that user was causing harm to any other person.

Just wanted to get that out. Some of you sound like you're saying libertarians would give us complete freedom. xd

Really, the government is only designed to protect us from getting hurt, protect our freedom, and protect our property.

And here I was thinking it was a monopoly on utilities. Though, somethings need to be monopolized just so they can be a reasonable industry. God only knows if you had to have sixty different sewer systems...

Then again, what you say goes right into if it isn't causing direct or indirect harm to you, you have no right to stop others from doing it.

And don't forget the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union.) They run on the same basic platform as the Libertarian Party. They can be found at www.aclu.org.

Unfortunately, BOTH parties are in my wallet - I'd hardly say that our budget shrank under Bush. The dems want to get rid of the second ammendment, the GOP wants to get rid of every OTHER ammendment.

The libertarian philosophy, then, is best summed up with: "Mind your own damn buisness"

I think you forgot "biotch!" After all, we are American, might as well not short change ourselves.

"Libertarians are NOT on the far right, they're just what the republican party would be if it had the balls to tell the religious extremist christian vote to piss off, sit down, and shut-up. Well, fairly close anyway."

That sound about right?
