I can play up to about nine foot somgs on heavy but I can't do any tricks...it's really sad. sweatdrop Would this be because other people memorize the patterns? I don't memorize songs because it just seems as though there's no challenge and I don't go to the arcade enough to memorize songs there, so...yeah...Any thoughts?

Well being one of those people that like to trick out their play I'll explain.
First of all your main problem may be that your trying to trick on heavy. Ask any freestyle player and they'll tell you that if your going to do that do it on light or standard, but not heavy. There are just too many arrows and not enough time to put in any moves.
Secondly you don't need to memorize a song in order to freestyle. Heck I never even practice my freestyle unless I'm in a freestyle competition.
Third while it may not seem like it there are specific times when a move can be added. You don't just go up there and start spinning around cause you feel like it.
Finally the last thing to remember tricks don't have to be tricky to be impressive. Hell if I get lazy I can impress people by bloody doing the moonwalk in place while I play. It's just all about style!

tricks aren't that hard.
You can look at a video and try to do what they did on a
song. That's how I learned how to walk across the screen and freestyle.

Thanks for the input ya'll (yes I know it's not a real word) I wouldn't crap if it weren't for this guild. But I think part of my problem is that I've seen freestyling gone horribly horribly wrong and I'm afraid I would look dumb. in truth, I can play some nine-foot songs but that's really only at home, but I'm improving Dammit! ::strikes meaningful pose:: (I don't think I'll ever get to paranoia of any sort eek it hurts my brain)What I meant by trick was the stuff that comes up when you hold the button down before a song...but you probabably knew that.

ok this is what happend to me:
i had my feet on both side arrows and i was going backwards so my
hand would touch the back arrow and i hit my head on the bar thing xd and it hurt..........it was in public too xp

just train ur body to do tricks on light mode then start moving up until u get to heavy and then ppl will call u ddr god. smile

Tricks... I only do tricks on the easy songs. Like Afronova [just like everyone] does turns on the jumps. And I used to play this one song, Love2Me or something like that [I don't play it anymore] And memorized the first steps. Everyone does I think. x____o;
