thoughts?
hmm it's hard to tell how is it going too be with the speed cause tons of people are probably out now testing it...
but few thoughts i already have: small cons - navigation - major idea navigation is the index, although it has most common links it's usability is hmm... all in all, worse then the previous design, and looks rather awful - doesn't fit the rest at all - top bar - again(and again) it's been redesigned. probably i'll get used to it but still the previous was less space-taking, less empty-spaced, and better navigated (even though it wasn't best it was beter). why is there so much space on left of the avatar? and it is rather high - counting in the logo and the ava beneath which real content starts
pros: - streachability(probably thats not a word ^^) - even on my resolution it looks good ^^ - "the connecting" pages - pages that show avatar arena spothlight, profile spotlight, etc. - although i don't think they are functional as a crossroads pages they have that community feel to them that i think is good ^^ - marking clearly where the shops are located - not that it's a very useful thing, just nice ^^
dunno: - very white - i dunno it may be nice but i feel it burning my eyes somewhat :/ - turning the logo to orange - new fonts - grungyness...

Its a mess. The only thing that looks like it goes together is the header, but even that has deign errors.
I like the old design much more. It seems like with each new design it gets worse. The only improvement is there isn't any ads anymore.
I hope that they don't believe in the whole bad design is better stuff. I'm really disappointed.

i actually like it o.o i just really like the open white space...maybe that's why... stretchy indeed...a "hi def" kind of quality to it..
the home page is a mess thouhg =_=.. crowded..and i guess typography can be worked on. oh... and the placement of the avi... all isolated and alone on the side like that *tilts head* ............
other than that dn_nb

It seems a lot more open, than the previous design, but that seems to contribute a more isolated feeling to everything, especially the Avi. (why did they make it so tiny?) As it is with any other site, Gaia's going through growing pains, and will probably go through a lot of redesigning, untilt they hit the sweet spot, in design terms. Next year will probably have an even bigger change than before, although I've recently come upon a petition to bring back the old design, and it's had 61 pages of signatures, and it's just started today, so it's safe to say a lot of Gaians share your sentiments about this new skin for Gaia.

miksago thats not the only thing that they don't improve on, (i'm a coder here so....) if you look at the code be hide it, it's a total mess! hmmm... what do you mean code? o_0? the most of it you can't see as it's done in php, and 1. doing a page based on database the html code is the least of the problems 2. most of html trash is caused by trying to create a page that look very similiar in all the browsers
miksago we should do an activity, of redesigning gaia to what we think it should be like! i double that but that is a rather hard and complicated thing to do - even if doing only graphic layout and not the coding - and seeing how much activity we have i don't believe in having many participants :/
ps what are they doing to the fonts? X_x first this groosome code in the message area in posting and now the topic review is in serif o_0

yeh, but they use tables which are made for showing graphics, tables are for tabular data. Catani i double that but that is a rather hard and complicated thing to do - even if doing only graphic layout and not the coding - and seeing how much activity we have i don't believe in having many participants :/ oki, i've thought about this, how about only the front page, and another page of your choice if you wish. (it would only be designing not coding xd ) Catani ps what are they doing to the fonts? X_x first this groosome code in the message area in posting and now the topic review is in serif o_0 i rekon, c'mon they should make the fonts standard. too true the code to the messege post area is groosome! i can't even read it.... in the nav the use updated code, in the rest of the page they use outdated code, i mean really..... rolleyes

I have found that I am not paying as much attention as I use to the gold... I guess that is a good thing.

miksago miksago ...tables which are made for showing... i meant aren't, aren't made for showing graphics sadly the tables are still the only reasonable thing to make a layout that can stretch and keeps the same form - div tables work... in ff (and opera somewhat, just don't try them in ie)

Catani sadly the tables are still the only reasonable thing to make a layout that can stretch and keeps the same form - div tables work... in ff (and opera somewhat, just don't try them in ie) Everytime I use div it works in IE just fine. What messes up in IE is the positioning elements. Everything, to my experience, works fine. But back to the redesign, the code is a mess. It uses both divs and tables. I'm not sure but I think the PHP still output everything using tables, while the template, if it even uses a template, uses divs. miksago we should do an activity, of redesigning gaia to what we think it should be like! I would love to do that. I say lets do it.

Catani div's work  but div tables? (tables made using div's) Div tables, thats what I mean by divs. I know of tons of sites that use div tables and work fine in IE. (example: PureVolume) Catani sorry i don't quite understand what you said sweatdrop - php can output content how you please... Yes, but the content scripts still says: echo " *etc..* "; While the templates, again if they use a template, says:
