This is where you can share ideas for contests and debates, and as well where you can find a list of current contests and debates. In case you have noticed, I merged the contest idea thread with the debate thread. I've decided on the first debate topic, so the poll has been updated to choose the next most popular topic. For people interested in a more research heavy debate post below. Mrs. Jade Puget made a very good suggestion (whether Erik really existed or not), so read her post. as well. There are a few contests currently, these would be them: Debate #1: Who should Christine have ended up with? (Main Page) Roleplay Contest (Costume Room) Halloween Art Contest (Main Page) As for contest ideas, I have some of these: Song parody contests Seasonal* art contests Seasonal* phanfic contests Christmas song contest I'm considering the next contest to be a threefold one, with a category for phanart, phanfics, and phan-poetry. The voting will be public.*Seasonal contests apply to Christmas, summer fun, Halloween, whatever contests. All I have to say is feedback, feedback, feedback!

I think the first debate (this could actually be a great final one, too) should be "Did Erik really ever exist?" Because I've gotten into arguments about that and it's really cool to find the points for or against his existence that others will bring up!

You don't need to research if you've read one of the books or seen one of the movies. You can take evidence for or against from anyone of them. I think it'd prolly be a better final topic, though, thinking about it. ^^

I'd join... I have had all of those debates listed.... they are pretty fun.... xp When you are a hardcore Erik lover- never try to argue with a die hard fop lover.... stressed It never ends....

I'd say go for the 'Could Erik have ever functioned in society?' or 'Did Erik really exist?' ones.
All the different permutations of 'Could E/C work?' and 'Did Christine love Erik?' just get so incredibly boring when you've been doing them for years. I can understand the exuberance of the newer phans, but really... Give it ten years and see if you don't want to kill something every time you see the words 'Erik', 'Christine', and 'Love', whether you ship them or not. Those debates have been done again and again and again in a million different places, and there's quite simply nothing new to say anymore.
Why can't we be a little creative? How about something about Erik and the Daroga? Were they really friends a la SK, or just casual aquaintances? Is Christine better as a blonde or a brunette? Could slash ever work in PotO? Was Christine a musical prodigy all along or did she only sing well because Erik taught her? Would a marriage between Raoul and Christine actually last? In ALW, was Don Juan Triumphant ahead of it's time or was it really just bad? Did Erik actually kill Raoul and Christine at the end of Leroux, as some phans think? Could Raoul's plan to capture the Phantom in ALW actually have worked? Something interesting, at least.

I'm trying to keep it fairly simple to start, for both my and the lighter members' sanity and practice. Also to maybe get them out of the way. I say you should start up a Christmas Art contest, and even a Christmas Phanphic contest. I am actually in the process of a phanphic, and have a couple art ideas in mind for the Christmas theme! smile
