Sorry it took so long. . . I've been ill and haven't really felt like writing much. But here we go...
---------------------------
Chapter 2 -- A Heart Encased In Studs And Chains
The bell heralded the end of the lesson and I reluctantly handed in my story. I was a little anxious about what Miss Hill would say about it… I made it end with the Zombie Girl killing the other girl in a brutal, graphic scene and kidnapping the human. Even more reluctant was I to have to sit next to Gerard in Religious Studies. It was just my luck that the lesson had a lot of discussion involved. I saw him in the corridor and carried on walking, ignoring him. Once I entered the classroom I made my way straight to the back, throwing down my bag and sitting heavily in the chair. Gerard came and sat hesitantly next to me.
“So… you want to tell me what’s up?” He asked. I stared resolutely to the front, ignoring him. See how it feels, Gee?
“Aiden? Hello?” He snapped his fingers in front of my face.
“Not nice to be ignored, is it? How about I add to it and start drooling over Larry?” I retorted, gesturing to the nerd in front of us.
“Ignored? You mean Chandra? She’s…” He stopped, blushing slightly.
“What? Amazing? Incredibly thin?” I almost growled the word ‘thin’.
“Huh? Look, don’t blame me that I’ve finally found a girl I like… who might actually like me back.” Ouch… his words stung.
“Oi! Who am I? A complete stranger?”
“I didn’t mean you…” He told me, acting as though I was three years old.
“Oh…right… so I’m not even worth mentioning. Thanks… thanks a lot.”
“Aide'! Listen… I like you… I do… but Chandra’s different…”
“Yeah… she’s not a hideous…fat… thing!” I felt like I wanted to just cry. But I hadn’t cried in front of anyone since I was a kid.
“I don’t think you’re fat! No one does! You’re being stupid…” He tried to assure me…but only succeeded in making it worse.
“So now I’m fat…worthless and stupid. You make me feel so special.” I muttered sarcastically, turning my whole body away from him. I didn’t want to say anything else to him. I had nothing else to say. Our R.S. teacher entered the room, relieving us from having to talk to each other.
Once the work was set (Write about the different views of marriage), I bent over my paper, writing fast. Anything to take my mind off of the chaos, which was coursing through me. The buzzing of the tannoy was followed by the crackled sound of the principal.
“Can Aiden Tennant please report to my office? Aiden Tennant, to my office.”
I glanced up suspiciously before packing my bag and glancing at Gerard whose eyes were still sparkling… surprisingly more than usual.
The hallways were deserted as I made my way towards the Principal’s office. Frank was seated outside, looking slightly guilty.
“What’ve you done this time?” I asked, sighing.
“You know… ‘Back-sassed my English teacher’. I was bored.” He grinned.
“Again? Well… I know how boring English is.” Suddenly the secretary poked her head into the room.
“Ah, Miss Tennant… the Principal will see you now,” She said. Frank looked slightly disappointed as I disappeared into the musty office. Mr Parkinson was seated in his swivel chair; a small, weedy-looking man with ears that looked too big for his head. As I took a seat opposite him, he set down a piece of lined paper, scrawled on with a familiar hand.
“Can you tell me what this is?” He asked.
“My English work…” I told him unsurely. Hopefully he was just doing that thing teachers do when they ask you obvious questions and hadn’t lost it completely.
“Yes… and Miss Hill and I are both concerned with the content of your story…” He told me. I didn’t know what to say so I remained silent.
“We are recommending you speak to the school counsellor, just to have a chat. I want you to go and speak to her now, she’s just in the adjoining room.” He told me, gesturing. I got up unsurely and entered the room. The counsellor was a plump, middle-aged woman with glasses dangling from her neck. She was dressed in a floral two-piece suit that was quite hideous. The woman smiled as I sat down, addressing me in a sickly-sweet voice.
“Now, am I right to think you’re Aiden?” She asked. I nodded. Clasping her hands together, she got up and put her notebook down.
“I know you’re probably a little worried to be here, but I want you to know that anything you tell me wont be recorded or written down or discussed with anyone else.” I nodded again, still unsure with what to say.
“Okay. Is there anything bothering you?” She asked. I was going to shake my head…but yes… something had been bothering me. Why shouldn’t I tell her?
“Yeah…I’m very close to this guy, and he only really thinks of me a close friend…but I see him as more. Just lately he’s been ignoring me over this new girl.” I said. The woman nodded, tilting her head to the side. “It’s like… everything we’ve been through, which is like…three years, just means absolutely nothing over the five minutes he’s known this girl.” I continued ranting. “It’s just because she’s so thin and I’m so…the opposite. Even stopping eating didn’t help… I just get fatter and fatter.”
“Stopping eating?” The counsellor was watching me weirdly.
“Yeah. I don’t eat.” I admitted.
“And when did this happen?”
“Last week. It’s no big deal.” I muttered, disliking this by the minute.
“It is a big deal if you’re harming yourself…” The woman told me. Why? I mean… she didn’t even know me; she just assumed she knew best.
“I’ll stop eating if I want to stop eating. I don’t need a complete stranger to go and tell me I’m nuts.”
“I’m not saying you’re ‘nuts’. I’m just saying you need to maybe get some help. If you don’t want me to try and make things better you can leave. I can only help those who want it,” She told me haughtily.
“Fine. I’ll leave.” I got to my feet, preparing to leave.
“Just come back if you need to talk,” The woman said, resorting to her sweet voice. I left the room, entering the Principle’s office once more. He was in the middle of telling Frank off. I stifled a laugh and shook my head, leaving. I only had to wait a few minutes before he too left the office.
“What were you doing talking to the shrink?” He asked.
“The usual,” I replied, giving a false grin. We made our way to the canteen for break and sat at a table. With a groan, I saw Gerard and Chandra approach. I got up, rolling my eyes and moving tables to one behind the crowd of Jocks, hidden from Gerard.
To my surprise, one of the bigger Jocks approached, trying to look suave.
“Alright?” He asked. I made a big show of looking behind myself before answering.
“Huh? Why are you talking to me?” She asked.
“We just saw you sitting alone for a change. I see you’ve ditched the spawns of Satan and come to your senses.” I felt a spark of anger, but quelled it.
“Yeah, they’re not for me.”
“Exactly, you’re way too hot to be hanging around them. How about you come and sit at our table?” I glanced around, seeing Gerard had finally seen me, and was watching me. Call me crazy, but it looked like he was about to cry.
“I’d love to,” I replied, smiling flirtily. I can be quite the slut when I need to be. As I sat on the table with the Jocks as they ate snacks, I felt a sudden dizziness. My breathing quickened. The smell of food…I hadn’t eaten in a week and a half… I needed something. Feeling myself swaying, I pressed a hand over my forehead. The last thing I saw was the table as I fell.
I felt light-headed as I awoke. I was in the medical room. Looking around me, I saw Frankie, Mikey and Gerard. For now, I was prepared to forgive him…for now. I still felt weak. I sat up and pressed a cold hand to my head, closing my eyes.
“Aiden!” Mikey exclaimed as he realised I was awake. He looked more pale than usual…they all did. “You passed out…”
“Really? I would never have guessed,” I said, smiling weakly.
“The Jocks ran off as soon as you fainted,” Frank told me.
“Bastards…” I muttered. Gerard remained silent. I reached up limply and took his hand, smiling unconvincingly. I was never any good at lying to Gerard. Ever. Frankie and Mikey exchanged glances before leaving.
“We’ll leave you guys alone…” They mumbled.
In the silence that followed I felt my cheeks burning. I had never been nervous around him…or anyone else…I guess it’s because I knew how childish I had been earlier.
“Gee…I’m sorry about everything,” I mumbled. He didn’t reply, but hugged me. A few moments later he pulled away.
”So what about Chandra…? She sort of asked me out…” I felt like a boulder had just rolled into my stomach. So he still found ways to subtly hurt me. Perfect.
“Whatever…just go out with her.” I muttered.
“Really? You mean it?” He sounded like a little boy whose parents had just agreed to buy him a puppy. I nodded grimly.
“Brilliant! I have to go and tell her, but are you sure you don’t mind me leaving?” He paused on his way from leaving.
“Yes…just go on…” I watched as he left before muttering into the silence, “Just go and piss off.”

I'm writing more... but the thing is: my laptop that had all of my fanfics on has chosen to break. And it's only the thing where you plug the charger into that's broken, so there's still a chance of me getting all of my stories back... but until then I'm afraid you'll have to wait a little longer *Cry*
Soon...
