I went to see this movie with my room-mate just the other day, and I strongly recommend to everyone else that you see it as soon as possible. It is an incredibly well put together production, which clearly spells out the nature of the problem, the fact that it can be stopped, and the fact that if we are to stop it we must all act now or it will be too late. I was concerned about global warming when I first went to see the movie, and was actually a little worried about seeing it because it is so frustrating to keep hearing about the danger and not know what to do about it, or to feel as though nothing can or will be done about it. After having seen the movie, I now realize that it is both a far greater and more imminant danger than even I had feared- and yet there is also more hope than I had thought. There are things which we can do, and many countries and cities and individual people are doing them. The United States contributes more CO2 to the atmosphere than any other one nation, so we have the most power to make a difference! This movie is a powerful motivating force to encourage people to step up to the plate and take action- both in their own lives, and on a political level. We can not afford to ignore this problem any longer, with the rapid increase of our population growth rates and the additional dangers of our modern war technology, this problem is rocketing out of control at a level which is completely unprecedented- and yet mostly misunderstood or unrecognized.

The movie website ( http://climatecrisis.org/ ) has some excellent information, both on exactly what is happening and what we can do about it. The movie is far more entertaining, and quite eloquent, but the website has some of the more important points of information- including helpful suggestions for how you can take action in your own life. It also contains a directory where you can look up local theaters which will be hosting An Inconvenient Truth- so go see it, and take your friends and family!^_^

The Online March Against Global Warming is another place to go and sign up, to show your support and learn what you can do about it! I see that Devin has already posted this site, but I'll post it once more because it's a good one.^_~

I'm with ya on this one WebenBanu, I heard about this movie and I want to see it. Maybe a movie like this will spark a change or maybe people will blow it off like all of the problems we face, we really do need to step up and do something with everyone working together!

I think that the movie was a good move- it brings the issue into the public eye through a medium which is much more a part of our popular culture. Your average person is far more likely to go see a movie than a seminar- although he or she will be even more likely to go see something which seems to have a high entertainment value, and global warming really doesn't rank up there with the rest of the genres.^_^' An Inconvenient Truth is actually rather amusing, though- despite the serious subject- and the information it conveys is astounding, so I doubt that anyone will regret having bought the ticket once they get in. The trick is getting folks to give it a try. But if enough people start talking about the movie and how mind-blowing and incredible it truly is, and if the ticket sales at the box office indicate that many people are opting to check it out, then more folks will start going just out of curiosity.^_~ I think that's why they're so interested in getting people to pledge to go on opening week- they want to set a big precedent so that people will become interested and curious before everyone forgets about it. Unfortunately, I missed opening week in my area- but I'm still really glad that I went to see it!

My boyfriend showed me the trailer online as well. We want to go see it, and might maybe next week. It looks so interested yet depressing.

As someone said, the trick is getting people in. Unfortunately, most people these days only care about the now and the THEM (as in, only about themselves.) When someone says "global warming" they either think "that's many years from now" or "someone else will take care of it." Now that all these crazy weather changes are happening, people are looking for even more scapegoats to blame these problems on. They'll go with ANYthing just to avoid admitting that global warming exists. Many people I've found have said "In the past it was hotter. It's all natural." Yeah. In the past there was a giant volcano in Siberia that nearly exploded. All the gases from that are what caused the heating then. And you know what? We're miraculously putting out just as much gas. Go figure- the examples they use to defend their inaction are, in actuality, proving them wrong.

If you could somehow convince people to open their goddamn eyes and minds for once, perhaps they'll see and understand the true problem. Unfortunately, the republicans are hard at work keeping people from doing that >_> ....

I don't understand why some people don't believe it, even some scientists don't believe it! Yes, Global Warming has always existed, but it didn't increase until humans came around and sped up the process immensely (humans caused the hole in the ozone layer though).

Yes, I'm very excited about this movie as well! It's showing in my town on June 30th, so I'm trying rally up as many friends as possible to watch this. I'll buy it as well when it comes out on DVD.

Seriously, if Al Gore runs for President again, he's got my vote. 3nodding

Aw, Riku, don't worry! I've left Gaia forums, but I still hang around in my guilds for the time being; so in retrospect, you'll be seeign more of me, as I've been kind of neglecting this guild lately. Busy times! I won't be on as much, but when I am, guilds are my priority. 3nodding

Yeah if Gore does run again, I think I'm gonna vote for him because he has more of an understanding on environmental concerns and concerns of the people! To tell the truth though, I think anyone is better than Bush at this point!
