To get Veronica Mars a full third season it needs more viewers. So it's time to start getting converts.
I thought it would be fun to have a thread to share stories of how we hooked people, we ourselves were hooked, or some tips.
Or if you've done something to try to raise awareness like turn the TV at the gym to UPN on Tuesday, spread the advertising bookmarks from watchveronicamars.com around libraries or book stores, or even participated in the cloud watchers community's campaign to donate DVDs to your local library.
My convert story: I had a friend who had been a big Buffy fan so I kept mentioning the show to her and finally got her to watch the Christmas episode on CBS and after that she was really interested in it.
When she came back to Albuquerque and stayed with me over Christmas break I put the DVDs in her view and manipulated her into asking to watch them. We ended up watching the whole season in about 2 days.

I managed to get my sister hooked when I asked if I could watch an episode that I taped, after that - she seemed really interested in watching the show and I know that she enjoys watching it.
I got one of my friends hooked recently. She knew I was really into the show and asked me what it was about, so I told her (being sure not to spoil any of the good stuff) and I said "Hey, you know the library has the first season, you could check it out and see it that way". So she did and she watched the whole season, she was even hooked enough to get late fines just to be able to watch the last few episodes. Then she was eager to see the second season, and I think she is able to catch the re-runs of it now.

mrgreen heart I love hearing about people being turned into VM zombies! muhahaha Sounds like yours were struggle free. To get my sister it took a lot of talking about it and mentioning it's critical acclaim. I even blogged about it tons of times. Eventually it was her anger at Alias and not having Grey's Anatomy on DVD that got her to watch my DVDs I have another friend who I sort of hooked, but I can't tell if she really likes it or not. I keep lending her DVDs to get her caught up with the second season and she takes forever to watch them.

Sadly every TV doesn't count. Only if you are a Nielson household does that help. I think the system is outdated at this point because it doesn't reach enough households and we're in the days of the DVR and Tivo but it's still what advertisers rely on. What VM needs is more viewers so hopefully word spreads enough to Nielson households or there's more of a chance of VM fans being asked to become Nielson households. It also makes the voice of fandom larger.

Kahime nielson households? O.o huh? Nielson is the company that does the ratings. I don't understand the whole system that well but I know they pick supposedly random households to represent groups of people people to be Nielson households. They install boxes with their TVs to track their TV watching and that's how they come up with the number of people watching and they can charge more for advertisers for the higher ratings. How accurate the system is is debateable but that's how it's done. Keep working on your bf!

It also makes the voice of fandom larger. Fortunately, my family is a Nielson family. You're basically right with how it works. Except its not random selection, its volunteers. The box has a button for each member of the family and when you're watching TV you push your button and green light comes on. I'm pretty sure each person represents about 10,000 people of their age and gender. So we put as many people as we can on. I got hooked on it when I saw my parents watching it. I liked the openning theme song so I gave it a shot and I loved it. Edit: I was wrong. Nielson is random selection. Sorry.

I talk about Veronica 24/7, so finally my cousin said "Look, if I watch one episode, will you shut up?!" I lied and said yes. xp
So we watch the first episode and at the end he says, "Could we watch the second episode?" He ended up borrowing the first season and finishing it in three days.

Someone at work actually got me hooked..... then I got someone else at work into it.... It's a steady process.. and i AM getting more people in on it.... but there's so many good shows out there and so little time... I find that with all these new shows being brought out and cancelled left right and center, it's really hard to keep someone on the straight and narrow.

I've been trying to hook everyone I can, VM cannot make it on last years ratings this time.
Some things that are helpful:
Critics- Finding some good critic quotes from impressive sources such as the "One of the 6 best dramas" from Time makes it seem more respectable.
It also helps if they follow a certain critic like E!'s Kristin, TV Guide's Matt Roush, Mike Ausiello or Angel Cohn or Daniel Manu, TV Gal at Zap2it, or someone else that really loves the show
Famous Fans- Do they love Lost? Lost creator/producer/writer Damon Lindelof loves VM.
Gilmore Girls? Gilmore Girls creator/ex-producer Amy Sherman-Palladino also loves VM.
Sarah Dessen (writer of Someone Like You, That Summer, This Lullaby and some others) has been gushing about it in her blog. Then there's the other ones that are pretty well known for liking VM like Joss Whedon, Stephen King, and Kevin Smith.
If they are Degrassi fans this quote from Kevin Smith could be helpful: "... the most engaging new show I’ve seen since Degrassi: The Next Generation...”
Wording - It also helps to mention things like acting and witty dialogue and stay away from the teen solves mystery thing unless the idea would appeal to them.
Damage Control - If they have seen Pulse and didn't like Kristen so much, use the fact that critics think her performance wasn't to impressive because she didn't have good material to work with and many television critics love her.
